SURVEY BRARY RESEARCH CENTER UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS • 428 LIBRARY URBANA THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND CHAMPAIGN-URBANA , Ad Inventory of Recorded Information May 1971 Compiled by Kathryn Scarlch and Maureen Gllluly Phone Number 333-1980 Please call in any additions or corrections to this list to the above number. i OI(c, Sol^SI ^y^/l. JJ'sr Si/^'^4- Hi " 1 117/ ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This inventory, which updates the preliminary subject list issued in November 1970, represents a complete revision and an increase in the number of entries. The authors are indebted to the continued interest shovm by many o£ the contributors to the first list. A number of new contributors including Lois Brodsky, Clark Jurgemeyer, Larry Kapustka and Errol Rohr have provided much of the new material and have helped make this a thor- oughly cooperative effort. Linda Hardin of the City Planning Library de- serves special recognition for her efforts in organizing the Champaign County collection in that library. We would like to express our appreciation to Janet Bloom for the time and patience she has shown in her work which included extensive biblio- graphic searching and verification of citations and all of the typing. Terence Crowley, Director of the Library Research Center, continued to re- cognize the value of this project and provide the necessary staff time. Members of the Library Research Center staff, La Verne Caroline, Yolanda Harris and Terry Mau, have given the needed staff support helping us con- tact community members as well as proof reading and collation of the text. SCOPE This revised list includes over 150 new citations ( the sysbol " * " is used throughout to distinguish the new entries) for a total of over 500 citations to recorded information. Included are books, journal articles, research reports, unpublished student papers, theses, correspondence and leaflets written primarily from 1955 to February 1971. The items were found by searching the main University of Illinois card catalog. University departmental libraries, the Champaign and Urbana public libraries and the Parkland College Learning Resource Center. The chain of contacts resulting from interviews with librarians, professors and community leaders provided the bulk of the unpublished, little known but potentially important, material. There has been no. attempt to evaluate any of this material. It should be noted that city, state and federal offices in Champaign and Urbana have not been visited for available material. Also, a few entries were deleted because it was discovered that the material included did not specifically deal with Champaign- Urbana. It must be emphasized that this is not an all-inclusive list; more information sources and reports are being sought. This will be the final complete list; however, supplements will be issued as the sources are un- covered. If this list is to grow in utility, your cooperation is needed in alerting us to materials newly generated or discovered. If you locate items not included in this inventory, please notify the Library Research Center. fl -u h.t. ;t^(H'.Vj-tuL Jtifl.' lo n) 'jr,«i .
