The library is open to the public from 9 a. m. to 12:30 and from 2 to 6 p. m., except Mondays and Saturdays, when it is open from 9 a. m. to 12:30; 2 to 6, and 7 to 9 p. m. The library is closed on Sundays and holidays. 2. Conversation, the use of tobacco, and any conduct tending to disturb the quiet of the rooms ar e prohibited. 3. The citizens of Fremont are entitled to the privileges of the library on complying with the following conditions: By giving as security the signature of some responsible property owner and taxpayer, upon the blank application supplied for that purpose. Any adult non-resident, on the payment of a fee at the rate of $1.00 per annum and the filing of guaranty, may have the library privileges. Children are allowed cards at the discretion of the librarian. The library board has power to grant, for special reasons, the use j)f the library to persons not actually citizens of Fremont. 4. Patrons will be supplied with a card inscribed with the registry number, name, and resi- dence of the holder. This card must be presented whenever a book is taken, renewed or returned, rfld if lost will not be replaced until fourteen days after notice of loss is given. Immediate, notice o^change of residence must be given at the library. 5. A card fee of five cents is charged for each new card issued to all patrons. Applications for library cards must be renewed every two years. The registered holder of a card shall in all cases be responsible for books drawn by means of such a card. 6. The holder of a card is entitled to draw one volume at a time on both the fiction and nonfic- tion cards, except in case of books of a set, or subject, when two volumes may be taken on a card. Three books will be loaned at one time, for the period of one week, to teachers in the public schools of Fremont. Books may be retained for two weeks and once renewed for the period of a week. Exception is made for books of recent purchase, ^labeled “Seven Day Books,” which cannot be retained more than one week and cannot be renewed. Books of fiction cannot be exchanged the same day as taken out. . 7. A fine of two and one-half cents per day shall be paid on each boon not returned according to the provisions of these rules, and no books will be given to the person incurring a fine until said fine is paid. All injuries to books, beyond reasonable wear, and all losses sustained by library, must be properly adjusted with and to the satisfaction of the librarian. 8. Persons who wilfully disregard the regulations of the library shall forfeit all library privileges. HOW TO USE THE LIBRARY To find the resources of the library on any subject consult: 1. The Card Catalogues— In which a record of all the books in the library may be found alphabetically arranged by author, title and subject. 2. The Shelves— All books on one subject stand together, and books on related subjects are generally on adjacent shelves. 3. Indexes— Poole’s Index to periodical literature, abridgement— 1815-1899. Cumulative Index— January- July, 1903. Readers’ Guide to periodical literature, August 1903-date. Special reading lists on topics of temporary or permanent interest may be consulted upon application.
