N PRESENTING this Souvenir of our twenty-fifth Anniversary in the live stock commission business, we desire to thank our friends and patrons for the liberal support and patronage extended to us during the past quarter of a century. On the twelfth day of December, 1873, Henry C. Ingwersen and Charles H. Ingwersen organized the firm of Ingwersen Brothers, and issued the following circular letter to their friends throughout the West: UNION STOCK YARDS, CHICAGO, ILL., Dec. 12, 1873. We take the liberty of informing you that we have this day established a commission business for the sale of cattle, hogs and sheep, at the Union Stock Yards, Chicago and beg leave to solicit your patronage. A long business experience as dealers in live stock enables us to promise that every consignment of live stock that may be entrusted to us shall be attended to with the utmost punctuality. "As to any inquiries you may wish to make respecting our character and financial standing, we have the honor to refer you to Wm. F. Coan. Esq., President Clinton National Bank, Clinton, Iowa, and Wm. Holmes, Esq., Cashier First National Bank. Lyons, Iowa. Hoping that we shall soon have the pleasure of hearing from you, and that our relations may become mutually beneficial, we have the honor to be. Respectfully, INGWERSEN BROS." Twenty-five years have passed since issuing the above circular, during which time our business has steadily grown. We attribute our success to the good will and kind efforts of our many friends, who have recommended our firm whenever opportunities presented, and we wish to extend our sincerest thanks for the kind assistance given our firm during the past, and hope the same courtesies will be shown us in the tuture ^>l On the first day of July, 1893, Mr. John W. Smith, well known throughout the West as an extensive feeder and dealer in live stock, and familiar with the different branches of the trade, was admitted to partnership, and the firm name changed to Ingwersen Brothers & Smith. Recognizing the importance of the Omaha market, we deemed it advisable to open a branch office at that point, thus enabling us to secure the patronage of our customers who favor that market. Our salesmen at Omaha are experienced and competent, and we assure those entrusting our Omaha branch with the consignment of their stock prompt and reliable services On the pages of this Souvenir will be found a series of portraits of the principal buyers on this market, whose faces have become familiar to many of our patrons. As only verbal agreements are made between buyer and seller in the transaction of business at the yards, it is not surprising that an occasional misunderstanding occurs, but we take pleasure in acknowledging that the conduct of the buyers towards us has always been honorable in every respect. We wish to call attention to the "ANNUAL HIGH SALES." These figures have been carefully compiled from our books, and represent the highest cattle sales made by us during each year. Assuring our friends that our business will be conducted in the future as in the past, and trusting that our patrons will continue favoring us with their consignments, we remain, With Compliments of the Season, t INGWERSEN BROTHERS & SMITH.
