Perhaps this compilation may grow and improve in fixture years so' that it will include information about more essential matters than recreation. Meanwhile, we wish to welcome you to our social life. We like it here and we want you to feel the same way. The Illini Theatre Guild The student play productions are presented by the Theatre. • These productions are under the supervision of Director Wesley Swanson. The plays are usujally given in the Lincoln Hall Theatre. Since they are very popular it is V7ell to secure tickets as soon as they are available. Five plays will be presented during the 1947-48 season and season tickets may be seciired at the Illini Union Box Office. RECREATIONAL FACILITIES Square Dancing An evening of square dancing for facility and students is held on the third floor of the Illini Union each Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The dancers come in casual clothes, with or without partners, A half hour of instruct- tion precedes the dancing. No admission*, charge. Squash Racquets Don N, Kemmerer, Committee Chairman A dozen to twenty faculty men who play from tine to time in the late afternoon on courts 13, 14, 15, 16 in the basement of Huff Gymnasi-um, Squash playera have preference in the use of these courts at all times. A ladder arrangement of compet- ition is continuously in progress and a tournament takes place in January, Equipment is usually provided hy each player, but sometimes borrov/ing is possible. Each man must have his own locker and towel, procurable for a $3.00 ticket which can be secured from the Bursar's office. Newcomers are very welcome. Huff Gymnasium (Fourth and Gregory Streets) and the hen's Old Gymnasi-um (Springfield and YTright Streets) will be available for men's recreational activi- ties diiring the hours listed below. Only members of the staff, students and employees of the University and visitors with permits will be allowed to use the facilities. Both performances will be with orchestral accompaniment. With the shifting student personnel, a stable nucleus of faculty (and husbsmds, or wives) is greatly desired. A cordial invitation is extended to all newcomers to try out for membership in the University Chorus. A trained voice is not required, but the cemdidate must have some ability to read music at sight. The club rooms of the house and the social events - dinners, b'^offets, dances, and smokers - are open 6nly to mem- bers of ti® Club and their guests. Candidates for membership must be proposed by two members of the Club. The main purpose of the organization is to further social intercourse and good fellowship among members of the association and to provide them with quarters for assembly and meetings reasonably incidental to their connections with the University. The University Concert Orchestra School of Music John M. Kuypers, Director An orchestra of about eight-five members open to students, faculty members, and townspeople who have had considerable orchestral experience. The orchestra rehearses on Lionday evenings at 7:00 p.m., and the string section of the orch- estra rehearses on Tvednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Smith Music Hall, The orchestra gives several concerts each year composed of important works from the symphonic repertory. Repertory Orchestra School of kusic Pa-al Holland, Director Membership in this orchestra is open to students, members of the faculty and townspeople. The Repertory Orchestra will serve to introduce players of orchestral instruments to the symphonic repertory and to orchestra routine. University of Illinois Women's Club 1201 Tt'est Oregon Street, Urbana Mary Lois Bull, President A social club with a membership of more than 400 women. It maintains a Club house and a dining room for the convenience of its members and their gaests. The Club house with its facilities offers an attractive place where faculty wives and women members of the faculty may become acquainted. The social activities include special luncheons, dinners, bridge parties, weekly teas, and occasional dances. Membership is available to faculty and staff women, faculty wives, women in the Graduate, Library and Law Schools, and a limited number of townswomen. Ap- plicants for rnembership must be sponsored by two active members and the applica-" tion approved by the membership committee. Dues are $10.00 annually. University Y, M. C, A, 1001 S. Wright, Street Philip B, Morgan, General Secretary Membership in the Y. .M. C. A. is open to the men on the University faculty and staff as '.veil as to men students. There is no established membership fee. Participation of faculty men is encouraged in the various activities of the Y« M.C.A,. Essential information regarding the Y.M.C.A. and its program is given in its annual "Faculty Handbook". A program designed particularly to interest the men on the University facul- ty and staff is the annual "Faculty Fdrum" series which provides for luncheon meetings, generally on Fridays, at the Y.M.C.A. Spealcers of distinction address the forums on matters of religious and social concern. General discussion fol- lows. The meetings adjourn by 1:45, University Women's Tuesday Tea Club Mps. M, J. Dorsey, President The Tuesday Tea Club, which was started in 1906, is the oldest women's social club on the campus. The purpose of the Club is to further general acquaintance, and to provide a welcome for newcomers to the campus. Membership is open to all women of the faculty, staff, scientific surveys and bureaus located on the campus, and also the adult women members of present and former facrity families, and wives of members of the surveys and bureaus.
