HAMERSCHLAG Margaret Morrison Carurgiv Srhool for Women HE CARNEGIE TECHNICAL SCHOOLS announce the J opening of the Trade Courses of the Margaret Morrison Carnegie School for Women on October 8th, 1906. This department has two divisions : 1. Night Trade Courses for Apprentices. 2. Special Night Courses. Night Grade Courses The Night Trade Courses are offered for students who are unable to attend the day school, and are projected upon a different plan from the Technical Courses, but are primarily for those women who find it impossible to give the necessary time to three-year courses. The courses are two years in length and thoroughly practical in character. ‘The aim of the mstruction is to impart to the students the accuracy, skill and theoretical knowledge necessary to fit them for efficient service in any one of the following occupations : Office Work and Bookkeeping Cooking Stenography Sewing Accountancy Millinery The School does not attempt to develop experts in any of the occupations above described, but offers to those who are gaining their livelihood by their daily employment courses of instruction that will supplement the usual apprenticeships, strengthen the reasoning faculties and teach both the theory and the practice of the trades. This system of instruction is especially adapted to those who have been deprived of an opportunity to acquire the theoretical foundation necessary to intelligent practical operations, and, combined with a certain amount of actual practice in all branches of the subject taught, should enable the students to advance along their chosen lines more rapidly and ultimately be qualified for higher positions when opportunity offers. Modern conditions require that schools of this character shall train women apprentices to that degree of usefulness which will eventually enable them to acquire a permanent and effective place in the social and industrial sphere to which they are best adapted. Entrauce Requirements There will be no examination for entrance to the Trade Courses, but applicants for admission must be at least sixteen years of age, and must present themselves at the School buildings for a personal interview before being enrolled as students. Preference will be given to applicants who are already engaged in occupations similar to those which they wish to study, or who are dependent upon their earnings for their support. Regularity of attendance, capacity and earnestness are essential to the retention of a place in the classes. Ciuitinn Fees For residents of the City of Pittsburgh........ $5.00 per year.
