PLANT-QUARANTINE IMPORT RESTRICTIONS OP THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA Importation of Potatoes for Consumption Prohibited By an amendment of the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations — Statutory Rules 1938, No. 85, under the Customs Act 1901-1936— published in the Commonwealth Gazette, August 25, 1938, the importa- tion of potatoes for food purposes is now prohibited, except as fol- lows : (a.) Intended for: 1. Use as ships' stores on overseas vessels, or 2. Shipment to an island in the Pacific Ocean; (b) Entered for transshipment. Consequently, the following item should be added to the summary under the caption "IMPORTATION INTO THE COMMONWEALTH PROHIBITED" "POTATOES FOR CONSUMPTION: Importation prohibited except when intended for use as ships' stores on overseas vessels, or for shipment to an island in the Pacific Ocean, or when entered for transshipment (Amendment to Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations — Statutory Rules 1938, No. 85) . Shipments of fodder, hay, or chaff may be landed only in compliance with Regulation 67 of Quarantine (Animal) Regulations and shall be reported to the Chief Quarantine Officer (Plants) for any additional treatment that he deems necessary to prevent the introduction of plant diseases and pests."
