 OF INDIA 
 
 . : '/ . TOBACCO . BIPORT REGULATIONS 
 
 Notification No. 5. -3 20-3 5-A., dated July 20, 193^, corrected up to 
 January 28, 1952, by authority of the Destructive Insects and' Pests Act-, 
 1914 (II of 1914) and the Rules Lade Thereunder by the Central Government, 
 as reissued in 1952, amends regulation 8B on. page 5 of circular B. E. P. Q. 
 404, 261 Revision, governing importations of tobacco into India, as 
 follows: .... 
 
 8B. (l) Subject to the provisions of sub-paragraph' (2) unmanufactured 
 tobacco either raw or cured, shall not be imported into India by sea ex- 
 cept from Burma, or the Kalat State, unless, in addition to the general ' 
 certificate required under Rule 5, it. is accompanied by an official cer- 
 tificate that "it is free from Sphestia elutella or that the pest does not 
 exist in the country of origin*. ■-'■'* 
 
 Provided that in the case of tobacco unaccompanied by such certificates, 
 the consignment shall be examined' on importation by such 'officer as the 
 Central Government may appoint on payment of such fees, if ary, to meet 
 the cost of*" sueh examination, as it may direct* 
 
 (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-paragraph (l) , unmanufactured 
 tobacco may be imported into India by sea without the certificates re- 
 ferred to- therein if the following conditions are fulfilled: 
 
 (i) the consignee of the tobacco has, within the period specified 
 in sub-paragraph \j) furnished to the Collector of Customs', Bombay, and to 
 the Entomologist In Charge, Fumigatorium, Sewri, Bombay, the following: 
 
 (a % ) the name of the ship carrying the consignment } 
 
 (b) the probable date of arrival df the ship in Bombay; and 
 
 (c) the numbe*r of cases contained in the consignment. -•■ 
 
 (ii) On arrival of the tobacco in Bombay, the tobacco is disinfected 
 by HCN or such other fumigant, at the Fumigatorium of the Directorate of 
 Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage, and in such manner as may be 
 prescribed.

 (3) The inibrii^loiur&ferred,-to in paragraph (i) shall be, furnished if: 
 
 (a) the duration. of the voyage .between the p^rt ^f. despatch and 
 the port of Bombay is less .than .thre^ . weeks, at least seven days 
 before the probable date of the arrival of the ship at Bombay ; and 
 
 (b) the duration of such voyage is longer than three weeks, at 
 least fourteen days before the probable date -of the. arrival. of 
 the ship at Bombay, 
 
 LIVE INSECTS PROHIBITED 
 
 Notification No, F.-193A0A, as corrected up to June 11, 1951, of the 
 Department of Education, Health and Lands of the Government of India, 
 and promulgated for the purpose.. of prohibiting* regulating, and re- 
 stricting the import of live insects into India, contains the following: 
 
 1, In this order," insect" means, a living , insect, and includes eggs of

 2, No insect shall be imported into India unless! it is accompanied- by: 
 
 (a) a special permit in accordance with the form set forth in the 
 Schedule. tQ. this order, authorizing such importation, is sue.d by the 
 Central Government . or by an .Officer authorized by the Central/

 •(b) a certificate, of freedom from disease granted by an Entomologist
