Hoyt Acting Chief, Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine. > Digitized by the Internet Archive ' in 2013 http://archive.org/details/plantnei46unit PLANT QUARANTINE IMPORT RESTRICTIONS OF THS COLONY OF BRITISH HONDURAS January 15 1 19^6 Basic Legislation The Plant Protection Ordinance, 19^1, No. 15 of 19^1 This Ordinance authorizes the G-overnor in Council to make regulations prohibiting, restricting, reflating, or prescribing the conditions of importation into the Colony of plants and parts thereof, vegetables or animal organisms, their containers or wrap- pers, or any other article or agent believed to be inimical to the growth of plants. (Statutory Rules and Orders No. 56 of 19U3, September 1, 19^3, which revoke Proclamation No. 10 of February 12, 1938.) Definitions 1, In these regulations the expression "an Agricultural Officer" includes an officer of the Agricultural or Customs Department deputed in writing by the Agricultural Officer. ■ Importation Prohibited 2. Subject to the provisions of paragraph U of these regulations, no person shall import the following: a. Citrus plants ( Citrus spp.). b. Coconut plants ( Cocos nucifera L.). c. Fruits or vegetables, except fruits and vegetables im-oorted direct from the United States of America, the Dominion of Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom or, provided a certificate of introduction is granted by an Agricultural Officer after inspection, from Jamaica. (Subject to prescribed condi- tions importations of specified vegetables are also authorized from Guatemala, Honduras, and Salvador.) d. Tobacco seed ( Nicotiana. tabacum L.), cotton plants ( Cossypium spp.) or sugarcane plants ( Saccharum off icinarum L.) except under a license issued by the Agricultural Officer. Banana plants or any -olant of any other species of Mug a ■ from the West Indian- Islands, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa P.ica, Nicaragua, Panama, South America, the Canary Islands, or West Africa. f. Earth or soil of any description or any living -plant net snecif ically mentioned in these regulations or any package used in connection with any such living plant, except when a certificate of introduction is granted by 'an Agricultural Officer. Disinfection May he Required. 3« The Officer issuing any certificate of introduction or license under these regulations may attach thereto such conditions as to disinfection as he may consider necessary. Importation Unrestricted U. The regulations cited in the preceding paragraphs do not apply to the following articles, the importation of which is not restricted: Plants, fruits, and vegetables imported by the Agricul- tural Officer for scientific propagation purposes or for experimental purposes. Bananas, green ( Musa spp.). Canned or -processed vegetables. Dried, canned, candied, or other -processed fruit. Dried beans and peas and grains. Onions ( Allium cepa L.)-. Potatoes ( Solanum tuberosum L.) . Nut s . Vegetable seeds.
