 We do not believe that this has ever been done 
 before, by any company, manufacturing any 
 machine. 
 
 This is a 100% list, so far as we are able to 
 compile it from our reports from the field. 
 There are no reservations. 
 
 If we have pleased and satisfied 100% of our 
 users, you may find it from this list. 
 
 If Kelvinator is practical; does its work as 
 we say it will; is the one indispensable appli¬ 
 ance in every home we serve; is the last thing 
 they would give up in case of necessity—our 
 users will tell you so. 
 
 If, on the other hand, Kelvinator is not what 
 we say of it—our users will tell you so most 
 emphatically. That is human nature. 
 
 We throw ourselves in their hands. Our case 
 is with the jury—and the jury is composed of 
 your neighbors, who know Kelvinator better 
 than we, for we only make it while they have 
 had it in their homes for years.

 What Is KELVINATOR? 
 
 Artificial ice? No. An ice-making plant? No. It is a simple 
 little machine, based on a scientific principle, first used commercially 
 in 1838. 
 
 Every cold storage plant, every packing house, every artificial ice company, and 
 most of the larger butcher-shops, hotels, restaurants, and hospitals, have been using 
 mechanical refrigeration for anywhere from twenty to eighty years. 
 
 You are all familiar with the brine pipes carrying the cold brine, which appear to 
 you as large, glistening, frost-covered white pipes, but which in reality are neither 
 large nor white, but small galvanized iron pipes, covered, because of their intense 
 cold, with a large amount of frost formed of moisture in the air frozen to them. 
 
 Thus the basic idea behind Kelvinator is not new. It is no experiment. It is no 
 novel idea, which may and may not be practical. It is a time-tried, and time-tested 
 
 principle, in which hundreds of 
 millions of dollars are invested 
 right now and without which our 
 complicated social structure of to¬ 
 day could not exist. 
 
 The only thing that we have 
 done which is new, is to lessen the 
 size of the machine to the limits of 
 ordinary household requirements 
 —to run it with a small electric 
 motor—to make it automatic, so 
 that it needs no attention from the 
 owner, and to substitute for the 
 Anhydrous Ammonia used by the 
 large refrigeration plants, a harm¬ 
 less refrigerant called Sulphur Di¬ 
 oxide, non-inflammable, non-ex- 
 plosive, and non-poisonous, which, indeed, is used medically 
 as a disinfectant. In addition to this, believing that this is an 
 age of specialization, and that to give the most perfect service, 
 it is necessary to do one thing, and that thing well, we have 
 confined ourselves to this one thing. We do not make various 
 electric appliances, or other sorts of machines. We make electric 
 refrigeration only. And we do not even make 
 all sizes of electric refrigeration. We make it 
 for the home only, leaving the larger com¬ 
 mercial sizes to others. 
 
 Our slogan, then, naturally is "Electric 
 Refrigeration for the Home." 
 
Kelvinator Mechanically 
 
 All that the owner sees of Kelvinator in his ice- 
 chest is the copper tank illustrated on the right. This 
 is filled with salt brine, and is called the brine-tank. It 
 also contains the many feet of copper coil in which the 
 Sulphur Dioxide boils, thus extracting the heat from 
 the brine, which, in turn, extracts the heat from the 
 refrigerator. 
 
 This copper brine-tank goes into the ice compart¬ 
 ment, and takes the place of the block of ice. Thisis 
 all you see of Kelvinator. 
 
 
 You do not have to discard your refrigerator, as we 
 make these tanks to fit any size and any shape of re¬ 
 frigerator now in existence. If you have a good re¬ 
 frigerator now, and our expert says that Kelvinator 
 will refrigerate it properly, that is all that is necessary. If, on the other hand, you 
 are building a new home, or for any other reason want a new refrigerator, we will 
 
 very gladly advise you on this. 
 Being in touch with all the re¬ 
 frigerator manufacturers and not 
 making them ourselves, we can 
 give you a disinterested and 
 impartial service on this, which is 
 valuable. 
 
 Down in the basement, on the 
 back porch, or, in fact, in any out- 
 of-the-way place, goes the motor 
 and the compressor, on the left. 
 The compressor is a simple pump, 
 which compresses the Sulphur 
 Dioxide gas in exactly the same 
 way as an air compressor pumps 
 air for your tires. The motor is either a one-fourth horse-power or one-sixth horse¬ 
 power, depending on the model of Kelvinator. (About the same size as a washing 
 machine motor.) 
 
 The air-cooled condenser (on the right) goes 
 around the motor and compressor, thus saving 
 room, and protecting you from the only moving 
 parts. By using air for cooling, we eliminate all 
 the expense and annoyance of plumbing connec¬ 
 tions, freezing of water pipes, constant drain on 
 the water supply, etc. This makes the machine 
 much simpler, much less expensive to run, and 
 much longer lived. 
 
 And that is all there is to Kelvinator. 
 
KELVINATOR In Your Home 
 
 Kelvinator in your home means to you absolute relief forever from all your refriger¬ 
 ator and ice-man troubles, and the elimination of all questions of food spoilage, dirt, 
 and disease. Think back for a moment, and you will realize that all your life you 
 
 have had all these troubles in the back of your 
 mind, whenever you dealt with food. You 
 never bought butter in large quantities, "because 
 it wouldn’t keep." You didn’t buy a whole ham, 
 for the same reason. 
 
 If you ever went away for a week-end, your 
 last two or three meals were "sketchy", because 
 you could not leave your ice-box with food in 
 it. When you returned, the first thing you did 
 was to call the ice company. Isn’t that so? 
 
 Kelvinator rids you of all this, and better 
 still does it all automatically. The thermostat, 
 (on the left), guards your food night and day. 
 When your food needs more cold, the thermostat, 
 mounted on top of the brine-tank, automatically 
 turns on the electricity, the motor starts, and 
 more cold is furnished. When the food has enough cold to preserve it properly, the 
 thermostat automatically turns the current off. You pay no attention to it whatever. 
 
 Your food is kept the same temperature the year ’round. This is impossible with 
 ice, because ice melts, and in its melting, the amount of refrigeration, and con¬ 
 sequently the temperature of your food, is constantly changing. This, plus the fact 
 that ice is not cold enough, is what lets your food decay. 
 
 The copper brine tank cannot melt, tr 
 and remaining as it does, constantly 
 ten degrees colder than ice, it not only 
 keeps all your food constantly ten de¬ 
 grees colder than the coldest that ice 
 can keep it when your ice-box is chock 
 full of ice, but also freezes pure drink¬ 
 ing water into dainty blocks of ice for 
 table use. 
 
 You can imagine the feeling of 
 satisfaction, with which a hostess 
 serves her guests with drinks, cooled 
 with blocks of ice in which maraschino cherries, sprigs of mint, or violets have 
 been frozen; or in which the blocks have been tinted or flavored to suit the 
 drink. Gold numerals are frozen in for birthday parties, or initials for guests of 
 honor, or place cards. 
 
 Mousses, ices, sherberts, custards, and salads are frozen, by placing them in the 
 ice trays, and putting them in Kelvinator for a few hours. Do you blame a Kel¬ 
 vinator owner for being enthusiastic? 
 
KELVINATOR and Your Food 
 
 If ice did not melt—if ice were not wet—if ice were not dirty—if ice were not ex¬ 
 pensive—if ice was cold enough—and was not so uncertain in its delivery—ice 
 would be an ideal refrigerant. Unfortunately, however, ice is none of these things. 
 
 Kelvinator is all of them in one. Kelvinator cannot melt, but must stay the 
 same size the year round, furnishing the same cold. 
 
 Kelvinator is absolutely dry. And furthermore, because of its intense cold, it 
 automatically dries out the moisture in the air in your box, which clings to the 
 
 side of the brine tank in the form of 
 frost. 
 
 Kelvinator is perfectly clean. 
 Clean when it goes into the ice box, 
 it cannot introduce dirt afterward. 
 It, however, helps to eliminate it, as 
 dirt in the air clings to the moisture 
 just as the odors do, and both are 
 frozen to the tank along with the 
 frost. An interesting proof of this 
 may be had by placing an open 
 bottle of cheap perfume in the ice 
 box. In a very short while, the 
 frost on the tank will carry a dis¬ 
 tinct smell and taste of this perfume. 
 
 Kelvinator is very inexpensive 
 to run. Just as we let our users tell 
 you how good the Kelvinator is, 
 so we let others tell how inexpen¬ 
 sive it is to run. The Edison 
 Electric Co., of Detroit, recently 
 conducted an investigation on this 
 point, with several hundred of our 
 users. They took the electric bill for the year after Kelvinator was installed and 
 from this subtracted the bill for the year before Kelvinator was installed. The 
 difference was naturally the increase in the bill. This amount averaged only $2.07 
 per month for the whole list. 
 
 Kelvinator is cold enough. The surface of a cake of ice is 33 degrees. The sur¬ 
 face of the brine tank is 22 degrees. Thus it is always 1 1 degrees colder than ice. 
 This always keeps the food below the decaying point, which starts at 30 degrees. 
 
 Kelvinator is always there, and there is no uncertainty as to delivery. Even if it 
 should break down (and anything made of machinery is liable to at some time or 
 other), the cold in the brine tank will furnish you refrigeration for twenty-four 
 hours, and as our service man will be on the job long before that, our refrigeration 
 is constant. 
 
 It is for all these reasons that we are not only willing, but very glad to refer you to

 Tomorrow, day after tomorrow, and the day after that
