BLANCHES New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Peoria Wall-Paper at One-Half Retail Prices THIS BOOK shows actual samples of Larkin Wall-Paper and includes side-wall, border and ceiling papers suitable for Parlor, Library, Hall, Dining-Room, Bedroom, Kitchen and Bath—forty-one different patterns for you to choose from. The prices named herein, like all our Catalog-prices for Products, are the same as you would pay at retail for papers of the same high quality. Larkin Factory-to-Family dealing, how¬ ever, always cuts these prices in half and gives you double retail value of every Larkin Product. In proof of this, you can get $20 worth of Larkin Wall-Papers (figured at Catalog-prices) for $10, or you can get $10 worth of Wall-Paper and your selection of any Premium Merchandise offered in our Catalog as given with a $ 10 purchase of products. This means that Wall-Paper listed at 14c per double roll costs you but 7c; that listed at 20c, costs you 10c etc. These are the very prices you would pay at a store for single rolls. Buying from us your Wall-Paper expense is cut in half. The saving (50$) is the same throughout the entire list of Larkin Products in any selection in which Wall-Paper may be included. When you consider the prices of Wall-Papers, it is neces¬ sary to also take into consideration the question of quality. There s a big difference in the quality of Wall-Papers. Some of the cheaper papers look real nice at first glance but the paper it¬ self is poor, the colors are poor, the printing is poor—they are decidedly unsatisfactory, fade quickly and are hardly worth the labor of hanging. Larkin Wall-Papers are not to be classed with cheap papers. We use a paper-stock of adequate strength and quality. The printing too is done carefully by skilled and efficient workmen. Selection of Colors Important In selecting Wall-Paper for different rooms do not use warm red or delicate tints for a room with a southern exposure, espec¬ ially if there are numerous windows in it. Red would make the room unbearable in the summer time. Green, brown, tan, blue or gray should be used. Rooms with a northern or eastern exposure should be papered with bright, warm colors, such as pink or yellow which give a warm, cheerful appearance. West rooms admit of the widest latitude of personal choice. You should always take into account the size and height of the room and select a pattern that will be right in “scale”—a small figure for a small room and a larger figure for a large room. This will help to bring everything in the room into the right proportion. Dismiss for once and all the mistaken notion that certain colors (green and blue for instance) are injurious to health because they contain arsenic. Larkin Wall-Papers, no matter what color, con¬ tain no arsenic or other injurious ingredients and are just as safe to have on your walls as pure white paper would be. Our Guaranty of Satisfaction If the paper you order from us is in any way unsatisfactory, if you don’t like the color or the pattern, you need not keep it. We will gladly exchange it for something else or you may return it at our expense and we will refund the entire amount of your order, freight-charges included. In fact we will send your order (up to $ 10 worth) on thirty days’ credit and you may pay us at the end of that time only if entirely pleased, otherwise we’ll remove the goods at our expense. The enclosed Order Blanks are for your convenience in ordering. If you lose them, send for more, or use ordinary paper. -Jtu- ass Instructions For Estimating Amount of Paper Required Estimating the amount of paper required for a room is very easy indeed if you will follow these few simple instructions. First measure the distance (in feet) around the room. Then measure the height from floor to ceiling. By referring to the table printed below you can readily determine the amount of Wall-Paper required. Do Not Deduct , For Windows or Doors As We Have Made Allowances In Our Table Note Carefully Larkin Wall-Paper is furnished in double rolls only. The Side-Wall and ceiling paper contains 1 6 yds., 18 in. wide. Each roll will cover 60 square feet of surface. The Wall- Paper border is printed on paper 19^ in. wide. There is nothing narrower printed; therefore, in manufacturing a 9-in. border, two borders are printed on one width of paper and a 1 6 yd. roll contains 32 yds. of border. When a customer orders I 6 yds. of 9-in. border, we send 8 yds. of regular width paper which contains 1 6 full yds. of 9-in. border. The narrower borders, 2f in and 3 in. wide, cure printed six widths to the roll and have to be cut into strips. Just order the total length of border paper you need and we will send you the correct amount. An Important Caution We strongly advise you, when order¬ ing, to purchase slightly in excess of your actual needs. This will give you extra paper for use if some is spoiled when hanging or damaged later. Boil until thoroughly cooked, stirring con¬ stantly for 10 minutes. When cold, thin with cold water until it is just thick enough to run-off the brush. This will make sufficient paste for a large room. How to Make Size If wal H ha r e n ? ver bef ? re bee j papered or have been kalsomined or whitewashed, they should be gone over with a thin coat of size before papering. To make size—Take 1 lb. of glue (powdered, if obtainable) and soak for 12 hours in cold water; add 12 quarts of hot water and one tablespoonful of powdered alum. Walls that have been painted should be gone over with a solution consisting of one part ammonia and six parts water before papering. Board walls or board ceilings should be covered with cheese-cloth, tacked down and sized before papering. Hnw tft Haney PanPl* Tools needed—For a pasting- OOW W nang Taper table, have 2 or 3 smooth boards 6 or 8 ft. long laid side by side on a table or boxes. As a platform for papering the ceiling, have a plank or board nearly as long as room and placed on boxes of such a height, that when standing thereon, your head will come about 6 inches from the ceiling. A step-ladder will be found a great convenience when papering the side-wall. A paste-brush 6 or 8 inches wide; a smoothing brush—a whisk-broom will answer—a pair of your longest shears, a seam-roller (a bed-caster will serve) will be all the tools required. Prepare the walls for papering. All old paper should be tom off, if possible, and all new walls sized. Any breaks in the plaster should be filled with plaster of paris or have cloth pasted over them. To Paper the Ceiling roll the paper on the paste-table, face upward; match it and cut the number of strips required for the ceiling. Have the strips long enough to come down on the side-wall at each end. Turn all the paper face down. Apply the paste evenly and not too thick. When one-half is pasted, fold that end over to the center, pasted surfaces together, being careful to have the edges even. Thqn paste and fold the other end in like manner. Then with the shears, trim off one edge of the pasted paper to the printed pattern. Don’t trim both edges. Draw a line across the ceiling, 16" from the wall for a guide for hanging the first strip. Take up the pasted strip which has been folded and trimmed and begin at the right-hand side, as you face the wall; unfold one end and place the selvage-edge against the line on the ceiling, which will let the trimmed edge hang down on the side-wall about 2". Start smoothing it out, keeping the edge of the paper on the line and unfold other end of the strip as you are ready to smooth it out. Use the first strip as a guide for the second and so on, being careful to match the pattern in the succeeding strips. Use the seam-roller (or caster) to smooth out the laps after each strip has dried for ten minutes. Cut strips the required length, allow¬ ing for matching and for width of border at the top. Paste and trim as for ceiling. Begin to hang with a door at your left and work to the right; being careful to get the first strip plumb. Continue around the room, filling in over and under windows with short pieces. Care should be used in smooth¬ ing down paper around casings. Hang the border last. Cut into strips of convenient lengths and paste. Trim both edges. In hanging, care should be used to hang border on a straight line. If border is to be cut out, this should be done before pasting.
