Dessoulavy Thomas (English), a landscape painter in whose Studio may be seen some pictures of the Cascades of Tivoli, as seen from different points, and other views of the environs cf Rome. CaSlTElli Alessandro (Roman), landscape painter. Among his principal pictures ready on his easel, are to be seen: A view of pine-trees on the sea-shore near Castel Fusano. The Morning-light. In this Studio the visitor may find a collection of copies from the most renowned Originals in the galleries of Rome, Florence, Naples and Bologna. This artist, generally, spends the summer months in the various principal towns or Capitals of Italy, to execute the orders, he receives, of copies from the Old Masters, of any different style whatever, which he can most faithfully execute. 50 PAINTERS AXD SCULPTORS. In this Atelier is to be seen a new kind of marble pavement, consisting of oval slabs of marble, upon which are engraved mythological subjects or allegories. The outline is inlaid with a metallic composition of Signer Gajassis own invention. It is so durable as to withstand any attrition whatever and all atmospherical influen- ces. This subject is a repetition of the famous Sardonic, in the Museum at Paris, representing ptolomey ii , piiiLADELPHUs and his wife arsinoe (309 years before Christ) whose beautv was so much ad- mired, that after her death, she was divimzed under the name of Venus Zephyrites. The ce- lebrated Author employed six years to complete it, and this engraved Gem, on account of its uncommon size and beauty, has been acknowledg- ed by the best connoisseurs, to be a work superior to any other one, which modern Gly- ptography has ever produced in our times, (See the Great Exhibition of London, published by George Routledge and Co. 1851).
