INTRODUCTORY ” Incandescent Light produced from the pressure Hollow Wire System, as well as from the ^Gravity System, has es¬ tablished for itself an enviable reputa¬ tion of which we ai'e justly proud. + ■ . With a varied experience of OVER A OUARTER OF A CENTURY, in all methods of lighting, ^ve are in a position to know just what the trade demands, and have been careful to place no fixture on the market until after it ha,s been given a careful and rigid test. This rule we always adhered to, and it is the Open Secret of Our Success Think for a moment what vast strides have been made in human progress, and especially in artificial lighting! Until within the last few years brilliant illumination has been too costly a luxury for any but the wealthy. Today it is a necessity as well as a luxury, and the consequent demand for reduced cost has resulted in many inventions. The “SUN” Incandescent Light has solved the problem, and fills the universal demand for Maximum Illumination at Minimum Cost. The old Kerosene Lamp has taken a back seat and bows sub¬ missively to the triumphant advance of the “SUN” Incandescent Light. As soon as that great luminary which gives light to the Uni¬ verse by day, drops out of sight, its namesake, the “SUN” lamp, follows in its orbit, turning night into day, and shedding forth its beautiful incandescent radiance. With the “SUN” Incandescent Light the citizens of small towns and villages, who have heretofore been unable to enjoy the same privileges, as far as brilliant artificial illumination is concerned, as their brethren in larger cities, are now placed on the same basis, and at the same" time no exorbitant gas bills to pay for inferior service; no expensive piping or dan¬ gerous electric wiring to continually bother and worry them; no freezing gas pipes in mid-winter to contend with, no dynamos to burn out or armatures to repair; and, withal, have a beautiful, white, hydro-carbon light of much greater brilliancy than any other kind of illumination, the soft glow of which is not injurious to the eye; but, on the contrary, is a relief to the visionary organs, and enables all to read with perfect comfort and ease, as though it were broad daylight. “SUN” Lamps have stood the test under all climatic condi¬ tions, and will burn as brilliantly in the frigid and torrid zones as in temperate climates. Place a “SUN” Incandescent Light alongside of an electric incandescent light, and notice the remarkable difference in favor of the former. Instead of the sickly weak, yellow glow of the electric you will find a powerful and magnificent incandescence. Each and every one of our fixtures is constructed with a special view to brilliancy, durability, economy, attractiveness, convenience in handling, simplicity of operation and absolute safety. Every “SUN” light is a complete GAS PLANT in itself, generating and burning its own gas. The gas, which is known as “hydro-carbon” gas, is generated and consumed just as needed, by means of our patent generator. There are no wicks to trim, no greasy chimneys to continually clean, and are so simple that a child can operate them. THE SUN VAPOR AND GAS STREET LIGHT COMPANY, CANTON, OHIO, U. S. A. 3 Fluid Used. The kind of fluid used in “SUN” Incandescent Lamps is the ordinary deodorized stove gasoline and can be procured at almost any grocery, store in the United States where kerosene is sold, or from some Standard Oil Company agency. In English Colonies the fluid is called PETROL. “SUN” Incandescent Lamps are NOT INTENDED FOR KEROSENE, but for GASOLINE ONLY. Insurance Permit. “SUN” Lamps are included in the list of Permitted Gasoline Vapor Lamps issued by the Consulting Engineers' of the National Board of Fire Underwriters. Consumption of Fluid. One-fourth of a gallon of ordinary stove gasoline will burn from 12 to 15 consecutive hours in a “SUN” one-burner gravity lamp, and produce a 100-candle power light, consuming 80 per cent, less oil than a Rochester kerosene lamp and giving 50 per cent, more light. The following table will show the saving in cost of operating- a “SL T N” Incandescent Lamp in comparison with other methods, computing gasoline at 12c per gallon. Comparative Cost. 1 Electric Incandescent Lamp of 16 candle-power burning 100 hours per month — 1200 hours per year_$ 9.00 1 Acetylene Gas Jet of 20 candle-power, with carbide at $90 per ton _ _ 8.34 1 Gas Jet of 16 candle-power, burning 5 feet per hour— 6000 feet per year_. _ 6.00 1 Rochester Coal Oil Lamp, burning 1200 hours per year, and requiring one gallon of oil for every 10 hours’ service — 7.20 1 “SUN” Incandescent Single Burner Lamp, burning 1200 hours ___ 2.40 Gravity Lamps , . + In placing these new Hydro-Carbon Lights on the market we realized that the demands of our agents’ customers would be of varied nature, some wanting gravity fixtures, all ready to hang up and light up, (with exception of fluid) handsome enough for par¬ lor or drawing room, others being satisfied with those not quite so elaborately finished, but gotten up in an attractive and sub¬ stantial manner, with a moderate amount of ornamentation, and still others who would simply want a chandelier, pendant or wall lamp substantially and solidly constructed without regard to orn¬ amentation provided the illumination was powerful, brilliant and economical. A glance at the illustrations on pages 6 to 19, and pages 30 to 35 will show what has been done in this direction. How To Order Gravity Lamps. Use our gravity lamp order blank which we furnish free, be¬ ing careful to designate the lamps wanted by their proper num¬ bers or code words. Write name and address plainly, and state whether goods are to be sent by express, freight or mail. En¬ close remittance with order; or if you wish goods sent C. O. D., enclose one-third of amount of purchase to show good faith. * Agents will find it advantageous to order in lots of dozen or more, thereby saving in transportation charges. We deliver goods care¬ fully packed F. O. B. cars Canton, Ohio, making no charge for packing or drayage. 4 THE SUN VAPOR AND GAS STREET LIGHT COMPANY, CANTON, OHIO, U. S. A. THE "SUN" HOLLOW WIRE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM illustrated on pages 20 and 21 of this Catalog, judging from the many orders received from our agents and the numerous unso¬ licited testimonials of their customers, is far in advance of any other on the market. “SUN” Low Pressure Hollow Wire Lamps do not depend on the wire itself as their only means of support when hanging from the ceiling, as is the case with other makes, as we consider that method unsafe. Each lamp is provided with a neat and strong ceiling plate, to which is screwed and riveted in a solid manner, a brass connection for the lamp and wire. Then this ceiling plate is covered with an attractive canopy matching the finish of the lamp, making the ceiling plate invisible. (See pages 20 and 21). The “SUN” Hollow Wire (or tubing) is not weakened by cut¬ ting threads on it for making connections, but, instead, is brazed with pure silver solder, thereby making the wire even stronger at the connecting points. Only the very best quality Hollow Wire Tubing which is tested under a pressure of 150 pounds before leaving the foundry is used in the “SUN” system. When complete “SLTN” Hollow Wire Systems are ordered, no charge whatever is made for cutting the wire tubing to the re¬ quired lengths or putting on the necessary tees, jambs, nuts, etc. The services of a mechanic are entirely unnecessary to install the SLTN’ Hollpw Wipe System. Anyone can do it, as we get everything ready, and the system is shipped all ready to put in place without any trouble whatever. Pressure Tanks for the “SUN” Hollow Wire System can be placed in the cellar or in the attic, outside of the house or anywhere most convenient. While each tank is tested at first under 100 pound pressure and then under 50 pounds, ONLY TEN TO FIF¬ TEEN POUNDS pressure is needed to produce the most magnifi¬ cent light. Only brass pressure pumps of the very best quality are used for the “SUN” system, and they are put in at about cost. The pump has a double plunger, and is fitted complete with hose, nip¬ ple, etc., all ready to connect with tank. Just a few strokes of the pump is usually sufficient for an entire week or more for an ordinary number of lamps. With the “SUN” system, any one lamp, or any number of lamps can be operated independently; and when wanting to ex¬ tinguish one lamp it is unnecessary to turn them all out. One lamp only, or even one burner only, can be left burning if desired. The “SUN” system can be used for low ceilings as well as for high. The standard length of the lamps is 36 inches. This length can be reduced without extra cost. We add to the standard length at the rate of 25 cents per foot, net. THE SUN VAPOR AND GAS STREET LIGHT COMPANY, CANTON, OHIO, U. S. A. HOW TO ORDER THE " SUN " HOLLOW WIRE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM When ordering by mail, use our regular Hollow Wire System Order Blanks which we furnish free, designating the style of lamps wanted by their numbers, placing the letter “H” after the number, as shown on pages 20 and 21. (The letter “H” means they are for the Hollow Wire System.) Write your name and address plainly, and state whether goods are to be sent by Express, Freight or Mail. Enclose remittance with order, or if you wish goods sent C. O. D., enclose at least one-third of amount to insure good faith. It is always best to remit full amount with order, thus avoiding C. O. D. charges. When desired, we can furnish, in addition to those lamps illustrated on pages 20 and 21, any of the other styles which are shown on pages 6 to 18 inclusive, converted into and suitable for the Hollow Wire System, at the same prices. In ordering them for the Hollow Wire System, always be sure to add the letter “H” to the number. While a 2-gallon capacity pressure tank is sufficient for a two or three light system, it is always best to order at least a 5-gallon capacity tank, so as to provide for more lamps in the future in case they should be wanted. For a system of more than a half dozen lamps, a 10-gallon tank should be ordered. Enclose with your order a pen or pencil diagram (just a rough one will do) showing where you want to place the tank, also where you want to place the No. 824 Wall Valve, and where you want to hang each of the lamps; draw a line between each, giving the distance of each line; also give the height of your ceiling. Wherever you want to hang the hollow wire leading from the tank to the wall valve and No. 824 globe wall valve. from there to each of the lamps, up along wall, ceiling, through floor, etc., is where you should take the Code Word, “WALLOW." Gentlemen:—Last year we lighted our church with ten incandescent electric lights, at a cost of $60.00 a year. This year we have lighted our church with eight Sun Vapor Lights of 100 candle power each, AT A COST OF ONLY $10 FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR AND MORE SERVICE. FIVE TIMES THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT AT ONE- SIXTH THE COST. How is that? THE LIGHTS ARE WORKING AS WELL TODAY AS WHEN THEY WERE FIRST PUT IN. Sincerely yours, H. V. SUMMERS. (Pastor Grace U. E. The beauty and bril¬ liancy of the light Is all that could be desired. Cheap? Yes, as there is no oil dripoing around and no more smoked chimneys to clean; and in CHEAPNESS OF OPERATION THEY EXCEL ALL OTHERS. Indeed, they are fully satisfactory and need only to be tried to be appreciated.
