INFORMATION BOOKLET ISSUED IN CONNECTION WITH THE HUDSON-FULTON CELEBRATION NEW YORK CITY SEPTEMBER 25 TO OCTOBER 2 BY THE Public Health and Convenience Committee of the hudson-fulton celebration commission MEDICAL STATION + wj + PUBLIC HEALTH AND CONVENIENCE COMMITTEE This flag marks the Medical Emergency Stations operated during the Celebration to augment the regular City hospital service. These stations are of two kinds — Field Hospitals open day and night and First Aid Stations located along the route of the land parades and along the Hudson River front during the hours of the land and naval parades respectively. A special ambulance service is oper- ated in connection with both. All of the Medical Emergency Stations are in charge of competent Doctors and manned by Trained Nurses. The service they render is absolutely free of charge and the public is expected to take full advantage of the same. This flag marks the Information Bureaus operated at the leading railroad and steamship terminals, convenient for incoming passen- gers. The attendants are prepared to furnish information regarding hotels, boarding houses, cab rates, etc., and to give explicit direc- tions for reaching any part of the City. There is absolutely no charge to the public for this service. SEPTEMBER 25 TO OCTOBER 2, 1909 4 HUDSON-FULTON CELEBRATION Information Bureau Service (Telephone : 923 Bryant) At its Headquarters, 1531 Broadway, Room 400, the Public Health and Convenience Committee operates a Central Bureau of Information, with branches in the waiting-rooms at the terminals of the principal rail- road and steamboat lines, during the Celebration. At these bureaus compe- tent attendants are stationed to give information, directions, and the names and rates of hotels and boarding houses to incoming visitors. Those de- siring may register at these Bureaus and have mail or telegrams forwarded. All services rendered by the Information Bureaus and their attendants ere entirely free of charge. Printed in this Booklet, for the benefit of visitors who might otherwise be unable to arrange for suitable accommodations, are the names of a large number of Hotels and Boarding Houses. The Public Health and Convenience Committee has secured these names from reliable sources, but cannot assume any responsibility in regard to them. The rates charged by the Boarding Houses listed herein, vary from one to three dollars a day for one person without board and from two to five dollars with board. Those desiring to secure accommodations at Boarding Houses are advised to write in advance and make definite arrangements. Medical Emergency Service The Medical Emergency Stations operated during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration under the direction of the Committee on Public Health and Convenience are divided into two classes : Field Hospitals, open day and night, of which there are twenty-three, and First Aid Stations located every few blocks along the route of the land parade and along the Man- hattan Shore of the Hudson River. These Field Hospitals and First Aid Stations are furnished, equipped and provided with doctors and nurses by the New York County Branch of the Red Cross Society and by the National Volunteer Emergency Service. To supplement the regular city ambulance service a number of extra ambulances have been secured and these are utilized to transfer serious cases to the City Hospitals. Fast Ambulance Launches patrol the Hud- son River in the vicinity of the warship anchorage and accompany the naval parade. Ambulance stations are located at several piers to facili- tate the transfer of patients from the launches to the hospitals. The hos- SEPTEMBER 25 TO OCTOBER 2, 1909 HUDSON-FULTON CELEBRATION 5 pitals of the city have made preparations to increase their normal capacity to a considerable extent during the celebration. Ample provision has therefore been made not only to attend promptly and efficiently to the minor cases of injury and illness, which are certain to occur, but also to meet any and every possible emergency.
