DANGER AHEAD. “He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you; whom the heavens must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the fath¬ ers, a prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me: HIM SHALL YE HEAR in all things, whatsoever He shall say unto you: And it shall come to pass that EVERY SOUL WHICH WILL NOT HEAR THAT PROPHET SHALL BE DESTROYED from among the people.”—Acts 3:20-23. BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. 3 21x35 Feet, Railroad Contractors’ Roped Wall Tent. Same as on opposite page. Showing the other end of Tent with common door. We supply turned and Ironed guy stakes with this kind of Tent, and we think the workmanship and quality of these Tents would be hard to beat. TO RAILROAD CONTRACTORS AND GRADERS. We do not think our Tents, as we turn them out for railroad contractors, can be improved on for all-around, every-day-in-the-year wear and tear, sunshine and cloud, rain or snow, heat or cold, wind or storm, stand-the-racket qualities. Our old friends, we think, will admit this, and we want the opportunity to prove it to those who are unacquainted with our work. These Tents, we believe, are strengthened where they need it with extra bands and patches; push holes reinforced with leather; roped every third cloth, with double guys at every roped seam and corners; roped at eaves, gables and ridge, with standing guy one end and block and tackle on the other; straps on doors as shown; turned and ironed guy stakes; 4x4-inch center poles at every roped seam, and 2 V 2 x2 V4-inch side poles at every rope. These Tents we claim are made right and will give the best results for the money expended. But we are at your command. If you want more pitch, or height of wall, or more ropes, or any other alterations, please write us. We can and will give you the best results for your money. If you want the frills we can give them as good and cheap as anyone. We have received some high praise for our “Dryduck” Tents. Try them. 16x24 Feet, Extra Roped Wall Tent for R. R. Contractors. Roped and with center and side poles every 4 feet 8 inches. Made to stand the wind. Send for prices. “DRYDUCK” TENTS. If you know anything about Tents you know what a joy, comfort and delight it is to be under a waterproof Tent in a rain storm; and what a dreary, cheerless and disagreeable thing it is to be under a poor, leaky one, and yourself and all your belongings to be soaked with water in a down¬ pour. Doubtless there are very few that have had a little experience with Tents of whatever kind but are personally acquainted with both of these conditions, and it seems to us that it should be easy to persuade them that it is a great boon to be able to have the former experience, and be delivered from the latter by the payment of the difference of three or four cents per yard on the price of their Tents, etc. ‘Buy your Tents of “Dryduck.” 4 BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. A. “Baker” Five-Room Family Compartment Tent. 14x23% The small sizes of these tents have one bedroom each once ana dining room in center, and the large sizes have two bedrooms each end arid dining room in center, as shown on diagram of the ground plan of the tent. The walls of the bedrooms are made of sheeting and are the same height as the walls of the tent. They run on cords from the side to the center poles of the tent, giving the greatest privacy, or opened at will and thus throw the tent into one room for social intercourse. The walls of the tent at each end of the dining room lift up and form awnings, as shown in cuts, which gives free circulation of air through the tent, or either end may be raised and the other closed to regulate the air. This tent, with its large dining or sitting room in center, is capable of the most luxurious treatment. It can be floored and screened for insects, made cool and extra waterproof by the addition of a fly or double roof, which are made to project beyond the roof of tent. A large tent like this would be an ornament to any lawn, as well as a source of health, comfort and pleasure, if it was erected in the spring and used to sleep in and sit in during the summer months. This is the modern treatment for the prevention and cure of tuber¬ culosis, rheumatism and other ailments. We have a large number of second-hand “Baker” Family Tents that we keep for sale or rent, for Chautauquas or camping, and will be pleased to submit prices on application. Size, Feet. CLIMATE NOT THE IMPORTANT FACTOR. “Consumption can be cured in Illinois. * * * It is pure air and sunshine and not a particular climate which is the essential factor in the treatment of consumption, and it is further noted that the cures of consumption accomplished in the home climate in which the patients remain are more lasting and more assured than when cures have been attained by temporary residence elsewhere. * * * More recoveries have been shown to have taken place in the Massachusetts State Hospital for Consumptives at Rutland, with its rigorous winters, its moderate elevation (1,050 feet), its greater rainfall and prevalence of cloudy days, than at the United States Army Sanatorium at Fort Bayard, New Mexico, where all of the conditions of elevation (6,000 feet), mild climate, dry atmosphere, moderate rainfall and almost constant sunshine are found, serving to indicate that some moisture in the air is perhaps not so injurious as was formerly supposed,”—Illinois State Board of Health, r 8 BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. Evangelists and preachers recognize the fact that one of the best ways to reach the people with the Gospel in the summer months is to erect a good tent in a desirable location, equip it with comfortable seats, lights, etc., and then with the “Sword of the Spirit,’’ which is the Word of God in dependence on the Holy Spirit, preach the Gospel of Christ, which is the power of God unto salvation, to everyone that believeth. This Gospel is the vital need of the world; all other needs are of minor importance. This we have long believed. We thus have a double incentive in the manufacture and sale of good and reliable Gospel Tents and Tent Equipment. We have made a specialty of Gospel Tents, Seats, Lights, etc., for over thirty years, and believe we have a product that is second to none. Our Gospel Tents and Tabernacles are heavily roped at the ridges, eaves and every third seam between peak and eave. All rope used is made of the very best quality of long cut manila fiber. All push holes, where holes go through top of tent at the eave, are bound with leather. Scalloped curtain around eave 14 inches deep. Walls are 7 feet high. Have a hook sewn at the top of every width which fastens into ring at eave of tent. We sew a rope into the eave at every side pole so that walls can be tied up when not in use. This arrangement allows proper ventilation and it is not nec¬ essary to unfasten the wall from! eave to admit of free circulation of the air. The entire wall can be lowered in two or three minutes, in case of emergency such as rain or wind. All stakes are bound with iron bands, etc., etc. We have also a very large line of Gospel Tents of all sizes and qualities that we keep for rent, with or without seats and lamps. This would be a most enjoyable and profitable way for ministers or laymen to spend their vacations. What more enjoyable or what more profitable than to see men and women brought to a knowledge of salva¬ tion by the remission of their sins? We recommend “Dryduck” for Gospel Tents. Send for price list of second-hand Gospel and other Tents, Seats, Lamps, etc. Where you will find some good bargains if you will apply early. ROUND TENTS. Roped Every Three Cloths. Christ Who Is Over All God.—Romans 9:5. “In Whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins; Who is the image of the invisible God, the first born of every creature: -for by Him were all things created that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether thev be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ail things were created by Him and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.”—Colossians 1:14-17. We have one of the largest, if not the largest, and best equipped tent factories in the United States. We have foremen, cutters, machine and hand stitchers, ropers and splicers that are thoroughly competent in their several departments. BAKER & LOCKWOOD PICTURE TENTS. /ULLiif'.'JjLi u: NEW AND SECOND-HAND BLACK TENTS. Proprietors of Street Fairs and Carnival Companies can find no better place in the country to buy “Black Tents.” A great deal of the failure to give .successful moving picture exhibitions in the day time is due to the fact that the tent is not properly con¬ structed. Also because of the inferior quality of the material usually used in the manu¬ facture of this class of tents. Order your Black Tops from us and be assured of satisfac¬ tion in every particular. We can make them all sizes, any style; unlined, half lined and fully lined. Write us for prices, send us your orders. SECOND-HAND MERRY-GO-ROUND TOPS. Stationary tops or revolving with the machine. HAVE YOU THIS PEACE AND HAPPINESS? “Then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, PEACE BE UNTO YOU. Then said He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into My side; and BE NOT FAITHLESS, BUT BELIEVING. And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and My God.”—John 20:26-28. “HAPPY is that people that is in such a case; Yea, HAPPY is that people whose GOD IS THE LORD.”—Psalm 144:15. BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. 15 BAKER TENT SEAT, NO. 10. The Baker Tent Seat No. 10 is the most comfortable, as well as the most economical Tent Seat on the mar¬ ket. It folds together nicely, and takes up lit¬ tle room in storage or transportation. The legs are m of oak; the seat rai and back rest of select pine, and the seat is made of 16-oz. brown army duck. We especially rec¬ ommend our No. 10 Tent Seat for use in Gospel Tabernacles and Chautauqua Tents. It is just as comfortable- as a chair, and makes a more satisfactory Tent Seat. The legs do not sink into the ground and break, as is usually the case with a chair. Where the seating capacity is considered, oUr No. 10 Tent Seat costs no more than half the price you would have to pay for chairs. Do not expect the public to attend your meetings and be very much interested in what they hear if they are compelled to sit on a hard board seat without a back rest. A sure way to create more interest in your meetings is to seat your tent with the Baker No. 10 Tent Seat and to light it with our Perfection Air Pressure Lamp. CO., KANSAS C-ITY, U. S. A. MANY AWNINGS FOR MANIFOLD USES. We are still adding to our list of New and Old Inventions and Appliances in Awning Evolution. New designs in architecture, in Store Fronts, Office and Residence Windows, etc., has made it necessary for the up-to-date Awning Maker to hestir himself to keep up with the procession. The merchant who, regardless of expense, has provided his store with modern all glass show windows and prism glass transoms, is not satisfied to have the Awning Maker mar the effect of his beautiful front with 19th century awnings, so the Awning Manufacturer must rise to the occasion and give him awnings in keeping with his 20th century store. This is what is keeping ,us busy these days. But although it is a little hard on our wind, we believe we are keeping well ahead in the race. We have too many specialties to enumerate here, but trust that if you need anything in the way of an Awning or Curtain, that you will not think for a minute that you can be better suited or cared for, in regard to price, quality or service, or could get an article that would do your work, fulfill the conditions, or satisfy you better than you can get it right here. But maybe you haven’t a store, but whether you have or not, perhaps you have a nice residence that you would like to make as attractive, profitable and beneficial as possible for your family and yourself to live in. In our position in front of the procession, we have for years been advocating the sensibleness, comfortableness, profitableness, healthfulness and attractiveness of fitting your house with Awnings and Sleeping Porches or your lawns with Sleeping Tents. And this is being done very largely in city and country now, especially in our cities, and it is being realized that the Awning Maker can give you better returns for your money than the Doctor. Read the short articles that are scattered through this catalogue as to the beneficial effects of sleeping in fresh air. We are not charging you anything for this advice, but we think it more than probable that if you would con¬ sider and act upon it, that it would largely add to your Health, Wealth and Happiness. ... Please study These 24 Pages Concerning Awnings, Drop Curtains, etc., and write the manager of our Awning Department, Mr. Milton Secor, who is always delighted to answer questions and give valuable advice about Awnings. Our Trade Mark AND What it Means to You When the United States government issues a coin you are assured that it is at all times worth its face value. The name of the maker is one in which you have faith. When you buy an article that bears the / Q -_.T_.~y,m a rk you may feel just as pos¬ itive that it is worth every penny we ask for it. We put one hundred cents of value in it for every dollar we ask. This mark stands behind a business that has been built on the basis qf satisfaction or money back; on the basis that every transaction is made on confidence, and that confidence must be preserved at all cost. BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. i7 DIRECTIONS FOR MEASURING “PULL UP” STORE AWNINGS. First determine the place where the joints of the frames will be fastened to the building', 1 which should be from seven to eight feet from the sidewalk, according to the height of the front. (See figure 2 in diagram.) You will observe that the curtain, 15 inches deep, drops below that point, for which you will have to allow for clearing people’s heads. Then meas¬ ure from there to where the top of Awning can, be fastened above the windows (see figure II z in diagram), which will be the distance from 1 to 2, or height of awning; 2 to 3 in a high building should be the same as 1 to 2 ; but in a low one a little more Then measure the wudth of the store from center of column on one side to the same on the other side, which will be the distance from 3 to 4, or width of Awning. If the top of the windows where the Awning is to be attached projects beyond the face of the building, or is back of the face, mention how much. When ordering an awning state whether it is to be fastened in stone, brick, iron or wood, both as regards the top and bottom, and whether the door posts and face of building or outer columns are in line; also, whether the frame requires three or more or less joints and bars. In ordering a new cover for awning, state whether the front bar is of iron or wood. Price List of “Pull Up” Store Awnings—Complete. Except Lettering. HEIGHT Pro- jection WIDTH OF STORE FRONTS . We also sell the Bevel Cog Gear Roller Awning. These Awnings are both extensively used in most of the cities and towns if the country and either of them give excellent service. But we have found that the Belt Chain with its Sprocket Wheels is less liable to cause rouble than the Bevel Gear. Especially is this true where the front is not perfectly plain md in line. The Belt Chain adapts and adjusts itself better when the work is out of line r plumb. "And Jesus answering, said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he sayeth, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors; the one owed five hundred pence and the other fifty, and when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both.”—Luke 7:41-42. BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. 19 THE ECLIPSE AWNING FRAME, PATENTED. These bars are a great improvement on the Slide Rods, which are used when the height of an Awning is much less than the extension. 1st. It is perfectly Automatic in its action, not needing any attention whatever, but it falls automatically into place when the awning is being raised or lowered. 2nd. It has no dead center, but is as easy to raise when the arm is extended as when it is partially raised. 3rd. The bar has a permanent fixed joint in line with the bar when extended, so that the bars do not have to be lowered and interfere with the passage of the sidewalk, while the awning is being raised or lowered. 4th. The scientific mechanism of this bar makes it more rigid when extended, and makes it almost unbendable. 5th. The bars of this Awning are especially valuable where Awnings need to extend a long distance across the sidewalk. 6th. The bar hinging in the center, and yet being so constructed as to be perfectly rigid, makes it much easier to raise. 7th. The extension of tlie “Eclipse” Awning can be double the height, but not more. These bars can be used on either the “Pull-Up,” “Spring,” “Chain,” or “Gear Roller Awnings.” Many merchants are discarding their old “Slide Rod” or “Gong Joint” frames and substituting the Eclipse frame. Price 60c per foot, extra per extended bar, net. Cut Showing Substitute Columns. Made of Tee Iron, on an All Glass Store Front, with Chain Roller Awning, fitted with Eclipse Bars, rolled up under transom. This arrangement leaves the glass below the joint unobstructed, and is an economical, efficient and satisfactory way of attaching the awning to the front. These Substitute Columns are made of 114x2 inch tee iron and will cost 25 cents per foot net, extra to price of frame. These columns can be run from the bottom of the transom to the floor, if preferred, but they obstruct the view of the window more than if attached as above. The roller supports can be fastened to these columns which¬ ever way they are made, which simplifies the hanging of the Awning greatly. We have had a great run on these frames, since we introduced them, and they seem to have given universal satisfaction where they have been used. We are sole owners of this Patent “Eclipse” Awning Bar in all territory here below given: All territory east of the Rocky Mountains and including Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico, with the following exceptions: Michigan, West Virginia, Cook County, Illinois; City of Lima, Ohio, and Muscatine County, Iowa. We will bring legal action against any one using same without our permission in our territory. When Will You See Him—Now or Then? CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. CANTILEVER AWNING THE “LATERAL” AWNING BAR. Here is our Cantilever Awning bracket Cantilever because it springs trom the store front and extends out over space without any help trom 'false pillars'’ which mar the appearance of the plate glass window below No part of it presents an unsightly appearance for its uncomely parts are tucked out of sight and gracefully draped Dy the curtain. It is exceedingly appropriate for store fronts as now built with prism glass above. This prism glass should not be covered by an awning for natural light is greatly desired in stores and this permits it on the darkest days, while on bright days the beam of light is so broken up and dif fused by the prism that it is not an uncomfortable glare. Use the Cantilever Awning truss on your up-to-date store fronts It is the best awning for the purpose extent and the price is moderate. Best and yet reasonable in price. The oblong “hip” end roofs and the square hip roofs it is conceded add greatly to their ability to withstand the storms. It also gives them a very beautiful appearance, especially is this so in those made with stripe cloth, as the corners are matched or mitered as shown in the cuts, giving them an elegant and beautiful appearance. They are much more difficult to build than the gable end shape, but the results in attractive¬ ness and wind resisting qualities well repay the extra trouble and expense. UTILITY AND HEALTH These House Tents are not useful merely for a couple of months in the hot weather for a va¬ cation, but can be made comfortable and healthy all the year around in moderate climates. This propaganda that is sweeping the country with its “back to nature cry’’ is not a mere fad, but is a genuine reform that is based on sound principles of health and hygiene, and is destined to bring back health, vigor and sound mind, to many a one that is on the verge of mental and physical prostra¬ tion through overwork and confinement in illy-ventilated offices, workshops and homes. And what is good for the weak and sickly to regain health, is equally good for the robust to retain that vigor. THE DOORS AND WINDOWS ARE SCREENED, 30 BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFC. CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. FIVE ROOM HIP END HOUSE TENT ,4 ?.« '■ This is a popular size and a popular price for a House Tent, with floor space and rooms enough for quite a family to live in comfortably as well as economically. It will be observed that if fewer and larger rooms are desired, any intervening partition curtain between the bed rooms could be pushed back, thus throwing two rooms into one, making a room 7x14 feet at one or both ends of the tent. These 7x7 bed rooms are each large enough for a double bed and other necessary furniture. ---- - CHOUND PLAN THREE-ROOM ‘ HIP END. It is admired and eulo¬ gized by all that see it, with its ample rooms, large screened windows and doors, and the ventilators in the roof. It is not observed by all that examine these House Tents, that the wall of the partition being but 6 feet high, that from whatever direction the wind may be blowing, if the win¬ dows are open, the ventilation is sup¬ plied to the whole tent over these partitions if they are drawn, and in connection with the ventilators in the roof which draw off the impure air, it is impossible to vitiate the air in any part of the tent. If the occu¬ pants of any room should be unable to endure to have the windows of their room open, the air from the rest of the tent on account of the porosity of the walls would still keep the air pure. Says an elderly gentleman as he was looking at one of these tents, “This is just the thing for myself and wife, one room for a kitchen, one bedroom, and this for a living room. It is all the room we need.” This house can be easily heated, cared for and made comfortable the year around. 16x16 With Fly Price, $130,00 Without Fly, $97.00 This is 25% dearer than the 14x14 ft. size, but it has 30% more floor space, and of course will be more desirable to those who can afford it. It would make an elegant little easily-cared-for home for a couple, even if they have a child or two. THREE ROOM SQUARE HIP ROOF HOUSE TENT Price, 9x9 With Fly ,$60.00; Without Fly, $45.00 This tent is just the thing for a sleeping tent for the lawn or the back yard. It can be closed and made practically wind proof, and yet the air could not be fouled in it on account of the porosity of the cloth, so it would be a very healthful place to sleep the year around without heat. Or if heat is desired, a small stove could readily be installed in it. This tent would also make an elegant kitchen for one of the larger tents. ONE-ROOM SQUARE HIP ROOF HOUSE TENT. Price, 12x12 With Fly, $85.00; Without Fly, $63.00 This would make an elegant, healthful, pleasant and money saving sleeping room for the lawn or back yard, or the top of a roof or any other place where it could be pitched. It would be an elegant House Tent for a party of from two to six young men to pitch in some convenient point, and use for a sleeping tent. And it would make an excellent kitchen for one of the larger House Tents, if it was pitched conveniently near to it. See diagram for windows and doors. 32 BAKER & LOCKWOOD MFG. CO., KANSAS CITY, U. S. A. Five Room House Tent 14x24 Without Fly, Price $120.00. THE CLOTH In our House Tents is of the best 10 oz. double filling khaki color duck, or the best 9 oz. double filling stripe that is made, and with as fast colors as are dyed. We can supply 12 oz. white double filling duck in the walls and fly, and 10 oz. in the roof of the tent, for the same price as the 10 oz. khaki, or 9 oz. stripe? This will make a stronger tent and some prefer the white to the colored, if so a more durable tent can be had for the same price. All this cloth is treated with our excellent “Dryduck” process which, while being water repellent and practically mildew- proof, still retains its porosity, and excellent and very desirable quality for House Tents, as it allows the free diffusion of the oxygen of the air into the interior of the tent keeping it from being vitiated. Porous, yet water repellent. THE HEATING PROPOSITION. It will be questioned by some that it is practicable to keep these House Tents com¬ fortable in winter. But it is entirely feasible to heat even the common wall or ordinary tents that are not built on frames with practically air tight windows and doors, and sup¬ plied with baseboard round the bottom of the wall; so there is no question that with proper heaters and due care one could install heaters that would give the requisite heat to make these House Tents comfortable in the coldest weather. There are heaters, lately put on ‘the market, that burn and gasify fuel or crude oil, and give an intense heat, that can be regulated to give a steady heat night and day. We append a report on heating one of our seven room House Tents which speaks for itself, and demonstrates the entire feasibility of maintaining sufficient heat in these tents in the coldest weather. REPORT On heating a seven room House Tent (20x34 feet), when the temperature was below zero. The weather bureau report of the same day (Jan. 2, ’ll), from the Kansas City Star, will confirm the data below. “When we started the fuel oil burner the temperature of House Tent was 7 degrees below zero, shortly we had it up to temperate heat, 68 degrees, we raised it to 84 degrees, this was found uncomfortably warm. “We slowed down the burner and maintained a temperate heat, 68 degrees, for hours with outside temperature below zero and a 36 mile wind blowing. Our heating plant consisted of a cooking range and a Round Oak heating stove, each equipped with a regular 6-inch stove pipe and an oil burner. The fuel oil is obtained almost everywhere. We pay 4%c a gallon, and a gallon lasts from one hour (in weather below zero) to four hours (in mild winter weather). We recommend these burners and they can be obtained from the Smokeless Burner Co., 204 Sterling Bldg., Kansas City, Mo.” EXTRAS. These House Tents are figured on the number and size of windows, doors, etc., that are specified, which, in our judgment, are ample for each tent as shown. But should more or larger windows be required they can be added, or other additions could be made at an additional cost. If windows are required to be larger we would advise that they be made wider, leaving the height as it is, as a greater height would interfere with the leverage or lifting ability of the cords with which they are raised. But the windows could be dropped 6 inches or more lower if required, which would still retain the same leverage. The opening in the windows are now 2 (4x2 (4 feet; they can be made 3 feet 3 inches wide at an additional cost of 50 cents per window; 4 feet wide, $1.00 per window. Extra window 2(4x4 feet, $3.50. Extra window 2(4x2% feet. $2.50. Extra doors, $5.00 each. Extra window 2(4x3 feet 3 inches. $3.00.
