NAME This Association shall be called The Presbyterian Union of New York. II. OBJECTS Its objects shall be to encourage a better acquaint¬ ance among the Presbyterians of the city and vicinity, to gather information, secure concert of action, and promote the best interests of the Kingdom of Christ as especially identified with the Presbyterian Church. Ill MEMBERS 1. The regular membership shall consist of men only. Any member of the Presbyterian Church, or of any other Church belonging to the Alliance of Re¬ formed Churches, whether a baptized member or in full communion, who is identified with one of the churches of the denominations, and who is also a resident of the city of New York or vicinity, may become a member of the Union by election, as hereinafter provided. 2. All applications for membership shall be made to the Executive Committee. The election of members may be held at any regular meeting of the Executive Committee, and shall be by ballot. It shall require a majority of votes present to elect; but if there be two negative votes, the application shall be rejected. 3. The Secretary of the Union shall notify, without delay, each person elected a member of the Union, of such election. Every person so elected shall, within thirty days thereafter, notify the Secretary of his ac¬ ceptance of the election, and remit to him the amount of the initiation fee and dues, and, in case any member 13 elected shall neglect to comply with this rule, his elec¬ tion shall, by reason of such neglect, become void. 4. Every member shall pay five dollars initiation fee, and every member, except ministers , fifteen dollars annually:—these dues to be paid semi-annually in advance; but members received during the year shall pay pro rata according to the time they enter. 5. Every member shall be entitled to all the advan¬ tages, rights and privileges of the Union when his fees and dues are paid. 6. Honorary Members shall consist of the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America for the time being, the Moderator of the Synod of New York for the time being, and such other persons at home or abroad as the Union may elect. 7. The officers of the Union shall be a President, seven Vice-Presidents, a Secretary and a Treasurer, who shall perform the duties usually pertaining to those offices. 2. Ex-Presidents of the Union shall be a distinctive and honorary class of officers, who shall be ex-officio members of the Executive Committee, but no president shall be eligible for re-election for the year succeeding his term of office. 3. There shall be an Executive Committee consist¬ ing of twelve members, serving in two classes of six members each, who shall be nominated by a committee (provided in Section 4) and elected by ballot, one class 14 at each annual meeting, and who shall serve for two years and until their successors are chosen; but no member shall be eligible for re-election until one year after his term expires. 4. At least thirty days before the annual meeting of the Union, a nominating Committee, consisting of ten members, shall be announced, one of whom shall be selected from the Vice-Presidents and one from the Executive Committee then serving; five members shall be named by the President and five by the Executive Committee. 5. This Committee shall nominate the Executive Committee and the officers for the following year, but this shall not exclude nominations made by any member. 6. Within two weeks after its appointment the Com¬ mittee shall complete a ticket and transmit a report of the same to the secretary of the Union, who shall send each member a copy thereof, together with the notice for the annual meeting. 7. The officers and the Executive Committee shall be elected at the May meeting, which shall be the an¬ nual meeting of the Union, and they shall hold their offices for one year and until their successors are chosen. 8. The Executive Committee shall elect all members of the Union, shall have general supervision of its busi¬ ness and other interests, and shall control its funds, subject to the approval of the body. Any member de¬ siring to have any question discussed or subject con¬ sidered before the Union shall first present the same in writing to the Executive Committee. This committee shall not incur any debts or disburse any moneys, ex¬ cept for ordinary expenses, unless authorized by a vote of two-thirds of the members of the Union present at a regular meeting. 15 9. The Executive Committee shall meet on its own motion, at which meetings seven members shall con¬ stitute a quorum for the transaction of business. It shall fill all vacancies occurring in its membership until the time of the next regular election, and shall make a written report to the Union at each annual meeting. 10. The President of the Union, at the annual meet¬ ing, or oftener if needful, shall appoint a Reception Committee, whose duty it shall be to promote the social interests of the Union, to further the mutual acquaint¬ ance of its members, and to receive and introduce the guests of the Union. The President of the Union shall also appoint an Auditing Committee, consisting of three members, whose duty it shall be to examine the accounts of the Treasurer and to audit the same. 11. The President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary, and Treasurer shall be ex-officio members of the Executive Committee, and of all standing committees of the Union, except the Auditing Committee. V. MEETINGS 1. The Union shall hold regular meetings, at the time and place designated by the Executive Committee, from October to May, inclusive. The nature of these meetings, the invitations to guests, and all arrange¬ ments pertaining thereto, shall be determined by the Executive Committee. 2. Every member of the Union, including honorary members, shall be entitled to one ticket for the dinner and entertainment at the social meetings, except min¬ isters not honorary members, who shall pay the price fixed by the Executive Committee for tickets. At the same rate, all members may obtain extra tickets for 16 their families or friends who are not eligible for mem¬ bership, which tickets must be purchased at least two days before the meeting. 3. Tickets, after delivery, are not returnable. 4. Special meetings of the Union may be called by the President or First Vice-President at the request of any ten members. Ten days’ notice must be given of the time, place and object of all special meetings. 5. Members failing to pay their regular dues shall, after due notice, be dropped at the end of six months. They may be reinstated, however, upon written appli¬ cation, in the same manner as new members, but with¬ out the payment of admission fee. The name of any member may be dropped for suffi¬ cient cause, after thirty days’ notice to him, by a two- thirds vote, at any meeting of the Executive Committee. VI. ORDER OF EXERCISES 1. Prayer. 2.
