It is admirably adapted lor railroads and industrial plants, where bituminous smoke and fumes accelerate rusting. It will be found unexcelled for Bridges Tanks Structural Steel Gas Holders Corrugated Iron Iron fences Conveyors fire Escapes and all metal structures exposed to the weather. Fort Montgomery bridge. Painted with Crysolite nine years ago and still in excellent condition 4 No. 10 Crysolite Paint derives its resist- ance to atmospheric conditions very largely from the presence of refined coke oven pitch, which is one of its most essential constituents. The pitch simply replaces the pigment found in ordinary linseed oil paint, and imparts to it its insoluble, imper- vious, insulating qualities, together with the smoothness of varnish. This combination produces a paint which is attractive in appearance, and shows great durability under a wide range of climatic and local conditions. This paint can be used with excellent results over red lead or red oxide of iron, it for anv reason one of these paints is preferred lor the priming coat on new steel. You cannot do better than give this material a fair trial. Halcomb Steel Co. Plant Syracuse, N. Y. Solvay Stack Paint F ( )R use upon boiler stacks, draft flues, boiler fronts, steam pipes and hot metal surfaces. Color p #1.15 per gallon in cans. Black RKI 1.00 per gallon in bbls. Covering Capacity: 400 sq. feet per gallon. Do not expect the impossible of Stack Paint. Nature has not provided a material which will hold on to a red hot stack, but if you will keep the temperature just a little below red heat Solvay Stack Paint will adhere and protect it for a long time. Solvay Stack Paint is made from refined retort coke oven pitch distilled from bitumi- nous coal at a high temperature, rendering it capable of w ithstand- ing high heats without injury. Up to 750° F. it can be relied upon to give a good account ot itself. This gives it a dis- tinct advantage over linseed oil stack paints, which blister and burn off at much lower tem- peratures. This paint has given excellent results on hun- dreds of stacks. \\ hy not try it on yours? 6 Solvay Acid-Resisting Paint F OR protecting chemical plants, paper mills, powder works, smelting works, storage batteries, sugar refineries, etc., where steel girders, corrugated iron sheathing, tanks, etc., are exposed to acid fumes and vapors. Crysolite Thinner nPHE only thinning material that should be used with Solvay Protective Paints. Price, 40 cents per gallon. Put up in 1 and 5 gallon cans. Crysolite Thinner is one of the constituent parts of Solvay Protective Paints and a perfect solvent for all the materials used in them. In case of emergency, or where only a very small amount of thinning material is j required, pure turpentine may be used, if i added slowly with constant stirring. 14 General Directions Never paint damp surfaces. Never paint frigid surfaces. Never paint dirty surfaces. Paint as soon after cleaning as possible before a new film of rust can form. Solvay Protective Paints can be used over linseed oil paints if they are dry and hard, but do not use light colored linseed oil paints over pitch paints as the pitch stains through. If necessary to thin the paint, use Cryso- lite Thinner only, or pure turpentine in case of emergency. Don't neglect the cleaning. Specifications DpOR painting architectural and struc- tural steel.
