FACTS ABOUT THE “BERGER” CEILINGS IN A FEW WORDS T HE Berger Manufacturing Company’s “CLASSIK” Steel Ceilings consist of 11 styles: Greek, Moorish, Italian Renaissance, French Renaissance, German Renaissance, Rococo, Colonial, Empire, and for church work the Roman, Romanesque and Gothic. Each style is complete within itself and consists of a variety of cornices, moulds, field plates, borders, stilings, center pieces, etc., so that not a single inconsistency can creep into any design. Berger’s “Classik” Steel Ceilings are suitable for new or old buildings of any architectural style, can he applied to any construction, wood, steel, terra cotta or concrete. Berger’s “Classik” Steel Ceilings are tire resisting, not affected by moisture, weigh less per square foot than plaster, can not crumble, crack nor fall from any cause. Vibration does not affect them nor can the} 7 shrink or warp. They last forever. Berger’s “Classik” Steel Ceilings are cheaper than plastered ceilings because they are complete within themselves. Plastered ceilings are not. They must he frequently patched and repapered and are easily damaged beyond repair. Picture moulds and plastic relief center pieces for gas drops and frescoing are necessary if any decorative effects are desired. Such extras above the cost of common plaster increases the cost far above the cost of metal ceilings. Nothing you can do at any cost will make plastered ceilings permanent. They will crack from shrinkage, absorb moisture from steam or bursted pipes and discolor or fall. They harbor germs and vermin. They are unclean and unsanitary. Don’t use them. Use Berger’s “Classik” Steel Ceilings, Various conditions determine the style best adapted to a room. The style of architecture, the height of the rooms and the purpose for which they are to he used are all determining factors in the selection of a style. Our expert draughtsman are well qualified to determine this for you but if you prefer to do so, make your own selection and send us your plans. We can interpret them correctly and give you, free of cost, a drawing showing the best arrangement possible with a low price for the material. I he information we require is given on the next page. BERGERS "CLASSIK" STEEL CEILINGS THE BERGER MANUFACTURING CO. CANTON, OHIO. to prepare our drawings, out what we do need must lie given accurately, otherwise the ceiling, when shipped, will not lit. Make a simple outline sketch of the shape of the room, not necessarily to scale, and indicate the measurements from point to point inside, in figures. Make notations of any parts not to he ceiled. INSTRUCTIONS FOP v TAKING MEASUREMENTS 18' 0" H II O' * '« 2 * 31 ' 0 " - T CEILING LlrtC = i If there are any irregular angles in the room, the pitch may he correctly indicated by the simple method shown in Figure 2. Measure an equal distance along each wall 10, 12 or any number of feet (the greater the distance the better) and then give the length of a straight line connecting these points. It is very necessary that we have measurements above the top of win- dow and door casings to the ceiling so that a cornice of proper depth to till the space without cutting can be selected. The glass in show windows in store rooms often extends so nearly to the ceiling line that only a small cornice or dat mould can be used. This information should always he given, and can be indicated as in Figure 3. 1 Glam. y/JP ,/ m ? / ' Figure 3 THE BERGER MANUFACTURING CO. CANTON, OHIO O UR drawings are made in accordance with information given us. Do not de- part from the arrangement of material shown in the drawings or shortages will result which will cause you delays and express charges on additional material and the cost of the material. For flat ceilings apply furring strips to the joists at the intervals indicated for lapping joints, and cut and fit “headers” or cross pieces between for the end laps. The spacing of the strips must be in accordance with the projection of the cornice and the width of fillers, borders and field plates as shown in the drawing below. On shallow stamped plates which lack rigidity it is necessary to place a strip back of the center of the plate to afford a nailing point in the center to prevent sagging. INSTIHJCTIONS FO P v tP v ECTING The furring for Paneled ceilings must be laid out to accommodate the size of the panels. Strips can be applied only for the lapping joints. Otherwise the same method of stripping applies as to the flat ceilings. Complete instructions accompany every drawing. 4 THE BERGER MFG. CO. CANTON, OHIO Greek. No. 4874.
