H. MULLINS, SALEM, COLUMBIANA CO., OHIO. EIGHTH EDITION. j. T. WAGNER, Sales Agent, No. 108 Chambers St., New York City. NUMBER 6, “E” *V£RY UIRARY V>LUMtlA UNIVUStn INTRODUCTION. V_L HE perfection we have attained in the modeling and monufcchiye of Sheet Metal Ornaments enables me to present, and guarantee to Architects and the Trade at large, an almost endless variety of Stamped Metal Ornaments, superior both as to perfection of modeling and detail in manufacture to any heretofore placed on the market, and in offering this my Sixth Edition Ornament Catalogue, do so, confident that my endeavors to make the best and most artistic work will be appreciated by all interested in best work in Architectural Ornamentation. TO ARCHITECTS. In my employ I have a corps of skilled Sculptors and Modelers, and at any time any Architect will send drawings of Special Ornamental Work, I will be pleased to have plaster models made and submit same with estimate of cost of work for their approval, and guarantee finished work to be equal to, if not superior, to plaster models; no charge will be made for this work, unless it i3 satisfactory and accepted, and I most respectfully invite correspondence. TO CORNICE MANUFACTURERS. Realizing the delcy3 experienced by Cornice Manufacturers, and the fact that often they cannot get drawings of work until it is almost wanted, and therefore cannot always anticipate their wants for Sheet Metal Ornaments, has induced me to increase my facilities for manufacturing, placing me in a position to execute orders promptly for special work, and enable me to cerry in stock a very huge lice of regular Catalogue Work, so as to be prepared to ship ordinary orders promptly on their receipt. My facilities for exe- cuting work promptly, will !>e realized, when I state that my plant is fully five times as large as that of any other Manufacturer of Architectural Ornaments in the United States, and fully double the capacity, of any other Manufacturer 4i Ike same line of work in the world. On all special work other than shown in Catalogue, I will be pleased to make estimates and quote prices, and will at all times guarantee prices as low as consistent with character of work wanted. CHEAP SHEET METAL ORNAMENTS. To meet a class of oompetition which has recently arisen io the West, we have thought it best to show a line of work m&de to meet this demand, and will guarantee this line of Ornaments to be in every way superior to the wurk made by the parties referred to, and good first class work in every respect, but made in light relief, and of light gauges of sheet metal. When in the want of best work I do not advise the use of this line of Ornaments, but when cheap work to meet competition is wanted, they are just the thing. Send in your orders and be convinced. COPPER WORK. The use of Ornamental Copper Work has increased very rapidly during the past few years, and to meet this demand I have recently gone to heavy expense in fitting up for the manufacture of Ornaments from this metal, and I ara now prepared to make Copper Ornaments, perfect in workmanship, and beautifully cleaned and finished, to correspond in color and finish to cold rolled aud planished copper work, on which this class of ornamental work is generally used. The cost of copper entering into these ornaments is so great, and the demand for Copper Ornaments ns yet comparatively so limited, I have not felt justified in carrying them in stock, and therefore have not listed them in my Catalogue, but will be pleased to quote prices at any time my customers may deeire. Until such a time as the demand for Copper Ornaments justifies and they can be manufactured in quantities, and carried in stock, it will be almost impossible to name any price for them, based on present list prices for Zinc Ornaments, that would be of any service to the Cornice Manufacturer in preparing bis estimates of cost of Copper Ornaments. The reason for this is, that at present, the price of Copper Ornaments must vary according to the quantity wanted, owing to the fact that the labor of preparing and setting dies, forces, &c., is the same for a small, as for a large number of any given design of ornaments, and if charged to making a small number, must necessarily make them cost much more in proportion than if this 6ame labor of setting dies, &c., was distributed amoug a large number, hence I always advise, and would prefer if possible, for customers to write or telegraph for estimates on Copper Work before quoting prices on it, or before ordering. EASTERN AGENCY For the accommodation and convenience of my Eastern Customers and Export Trade, I have established a branch Office and Ware-room at No. 108 Chambers St., New York City, Mr. J. T. Wagner, Salc-s Agent, where a full line of samples And a large stock of regular Catalogue Work will be found. Architect? and those interested in Architectural Orna- ments are invited to call and examine samples. In ordering by telegraph, always use the tclegrephic cipher wbioh will be found in connection with the index in the back of this book. In ordering always State whothcr yon wish goods sent by Freight or Express; failure to do this, will cause delay in shipment. The prices quoted in this Catalogue are based on work made in sheet fine. Prices quoted for work made in copper or brass on application. Will always be prepared to furnish designs made by other Manufacturers at same prices for same character of work. All prices in this Catalogue subject to a discount to the Trade which will be arranged by correspondence. Should Catalogue not contain designs approximating closely enough with what you require, send drawings or sketch shewing what you want, for if ft possible that among our large number of special dies, we may have something that will answer your purpose; and will save you the cost of modeling. Sheet Metal Statuary. N this department great advancement has been made, and a grade of highest art work attained, which a few years ago would have been regarded as impossible If to accomplish in this material, and I now guarantee artistic work in sheet metal statuary, which, while it can be sold at a very much lower price, will compare most favorably as to modeling and execution with the finest cast metal work. The principal advantages claimed for sheet metal statuary are its lightness, cheapness, great durability, and its peculiar fitness and adaptability for ornamentation in architecture. The statue of Hermann, cut of which is shown on page T 5 of this catalogue, was made by me for a monument at New Ulm, Minnesota, and is the largest and most imposing sheet metal statue ever made in this country, and has attracted great attention here and abroad. This statue is made of sheet copper ranging in gauge from 20 ounces to 48 ounces, all joints being countersunk and riveted, and the copper work stiffened and supported with a light frame work of steel Ts and angles, all securely interlaced and riveted, making at the same time an extremely light and strong construction, the former demonstrated by the fact that this statue, while }2 feet in height, weighs only about three thousand pounds. The Hermann statue is the second largest statue ever erected in the United States, the Bartholdi Liberty (which was made in France) alone being larger. This statue will demonstrate to Architects and others the class of work I am prepared to furnish. Parties ordering statues from me, where special designs are to be made, may be confident of getting work perfect as to modeling and execution, and of having their wishes carried out in detail ; and I will be pleased at any time to model and submit small plaster sketch or model of statues for the criticism and approval of parties ordering, no charge for so doing to be made unless design is satisfactory The prices for statuary named in this catalogue, as also for all ornaments priced in it. are based on making them of sheet zinc, which is the cheapest material that can be used, but where more durable and artistic work is wanted we would strongly recommend the use of sheet bronze or copper, and will be pleased, on application, to price work made in either of these materials W. Kinnear’s Patent Lock-Rib Roofing: Kinnear’s Patent Roofing, of which I am the exclusive manufacturer, is to take the place and entirely supersede the old style standing seam roof, in that it is highly ornamental, cheaply and easily laid, and makes an absolutely storm and water light roof, and is recommended for use on any roof the pitch of which is steep enough for slate, standing seam tin. iron or shingle roof. The roof as now m2de will be furnished in tin, black and galvanized iron, copper and pure aluminum. As a copper roof it is absolutely the only roof that has ever been produced in which perfect expansion and contraction are provided for. The peculiar shape of the spring lock slide mouldings, the strengthening of same by the ornamental bands, the perfection of the slip joint at the lower edge of the sheet, the ingenious arrangement of the upper end of the sheet to pro- vide against capillary attraction, together with the highly artistic appearance of the roof, will at once recommend it to the, Architect and practical Roofer Another and very great advantage is that it can be sold at a price that will enable the Roofer to furnish it laid complete] on the roof at a lower cost and greater profit to himself than he, could supply a roof of an equal quality of material made in the old way.
