Torch, thy children's lamps to kindle, Beacon star, to cheer and guide, Stand, Columbia! Alma Mater — Through the storms of Time abide! Mighty patriots, warriors, sages, Thou hast borne, a shining band; Teach thy sons in future ages Still to love their native land. Thron'd upon the hill where heroes Fought for liberty, and died. Stand, Columbia! Alma Mater — Through the storms of Time abide! Honor, love, and veneration Crown forevermore thy brow! Many a grateful generation Hail thee as we hail thee now! Till the lordly Hudson seaward Cease to roll his heaving tide. Stand, Columbia! Alma Mater — Through the storms of Time abide! Gilbert Oakley Ward, "02. EVENING ON THE CAMPUS When on the college campus Comes ev'ning's tender pall, The moonlight comes to linger On chapel and on hall; When daylight dies our voices rise. While stars look down from silent skies. We sing Columbia's praises. And watch the shadows fall. The deep'ning gloom marks midnight. Yet still we sit and sing, While to the night airs gently The branches sway and swing. Ah ! free from strife with gladness We bless our careless student life, And to Columbia's praises We make the echoes ring. Guy Wetmore Carryl, '95. HAS ANY1K)DV II1':RE SEEN KELI.Y ? Michael Kelly, with his sweetheart, came from County Cork, And bent upon a holiday they landed in New York. They strolled around to see the sights; alas, it's sad to say, Poor Kelly lost his little girl u|K)n the Great White Way. She walked uptown from Herald Square to Forty-second Street, The traffic stopped as she cried to the copper on the beat : Chorus Has anybody here seen Kelly ? K E double L Y, Has anybody here seen Kelly ? Have you seen him smile ? Sure his hair is red, his eyes are blue, And he's Irish through and through. Has anybody here seen Kelly ? Kelly from the Emerald Isle! Over on Fifth Avenue, a band began to play, Ten thousand men were marching, for it was Saint Patrick's Day I'he " Wearing of the Green " rang out upon the morning air; 'Twas Kelly's fav'rite song, so Mary said "I'll find him there." She climbed upon the grand stand in hopes her Mike she'd see; Five hundred Kellys left the ranks in answer to her plea. Chorus. PUT ON YOUR OLD GRAY BONNET On the old farmhouse veranda, there sat Silas and Miranda, Thinking of the days gone by. Said he, " Dearie, don't be weary, you were always bright and But a tear, dear, dims your eye." [cheery. Said she, "They're tears of gladness, Silas; they're not tears of It is twenty years to-day since we were wed." [sadness. Then the old man's dim eyes brightened, and his stern face lightened. As he turned to her and said: Chorus Put on your old gray bonnet with the blue ribbons on it. While I hitch old Dobbin to the shay. And through the fields of clover we'll drive up to Dover On our vigintennial day. It was in the same old bonnet, with the same blue ribbons on it. In the old shay by his side, That he drove her up to Dover, thro' the same old fields of clover, To become his bonny bride. The birds were sweetly singing, and the same old bells were ringing, As they passed the quaint old church where they were wed. And that night when stars were gleaming, the old couple lay a Dreaming of the words he said [dreaming: Chorus. n CLASS OFFICERS President A.
