At a meeting of the creditors of Martin Kalbfleisch's Sons, held at the office of the firm, 55 Fulton Street, New York, Mr. Nelson J. Gates was elected as Chairman, and Mr. E. H. Wardwell, Secretary. Mr. William Brookfield read a statement of the assets in his possession as Receiver of the firm, and also of the liabilities so far as ascertained by him. On motion made and seconded, it was resolved to receive the Receiver's report. On motion it was also Resolved: That the Receiver's report be incorporated in the proceedings of this meeting, and the whole printed for distribution to the creditors. On motion made and seconded, it was Resolved: That a committee of five creditors, or their repre- sentatives, be appointed, of whom the Chair shall be one, to confer with the firm of Martin Kalbfleisch's Sons, and the Receiver, and learn the value and situation of the assets, and devise a plan of set- tlement, and report at a subsequent meeting to be called by the Chair. By request of creditor's, Mr. Locke made a statement of the condition of the affairs of the firm, as he found them, and of his efforts to carry through a plan of settlement, which had failed. The Chair then appointed the following named gentlemen as members of the Committee of five, called for by the above resolution. Mr. NELSON J. GATES, Mr. W. I. PRESTON, Mr. P. J ARMOUR, Mr. SAMUEL PETERS, Mr. G. F. GANTZ. On motion the meeting adjourned. E. H. WARDWELL, Secretary. I ~ * — %J STATEMENT OF WILLIAM BR00KF1EIB, Receiver. I qualified as Receiver July 27th, 1886, and as soon thereafter as possible took possession of the assets of Martin Kalbfleisch's Sons as follows, viz : Accounts Receivable $94,049.10 Stock and Fixtures 2,641.70 Cash as appeared 1,884.67 One Sail Lighter, valued at 2,000.00 A 20% Subscription to $25,000 Stock in the Georgia Mid- land Construction Co 5,000.00 2250 Shares of the United States Dynamite Projectile Co., par value $25.00 each. 1025 Shares of the New York Telegh. Co., par valve S100 each. 25 Shares of the Traders & Travelers' Union (Co-operative), par value £100 each. 1 Bonds of E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N. Y., $100 each. Note of Donald Cameron & Co., due Jan. 14th, 1884, 8360.41 " A. R. Case, due Sept. 4th, 1882 65.86 " R. Robinson, due Oct. 8, 1886 61.27 " R. Robinson, due Oct. 8, 1887 30.67 About 10 acres of land in the City of Buffalo, with 4 houses and barn, valued at $35,000 and mortgaged for $30,000. 5950 Shares, $100 each, of the Bushwick Chemical Works, capi- talized at $600,000. 2944 Shares, $100 each, of the Bayonne Chemical Works, capi- talized at $300,000, mortgaged $100,000. 395 Shares, $100 each, of the Baltimore Acetate Co., capitalized at $100,000. Insurance Policy of Wm. Pettit for £200. Bonus to date £36 3s Od. Equal, in case of death, £236 3s. 2051 Shares of the Capital Stock of the Buffalo Chemical Works, capitalized at $300,000, 2000 Shares of which are pledged to Wm. Brookfield as part collateral security for a loan of $58,000. 3 As Receiver for property in New Jersey, I am in possession of a plot of ground, said to contain about ten acres, valued at $65,000, and mortgaged for $65,000 ; also $950.73 in cash, and expect to rea- lize a few hundred dollars more from the sale of stock and fixtures of an Ammonia Works, now useless. Of the book accounts I have collected $47,327.83, and hope to get about $12,000 more, which leaves a balance of $34,721.27 that is probably not collectible. A large part of this amount is for Baking Powder and Phosacid, a portion of which was consigned, to be ac- counted for when sold. Nearly all the parties say that the goods have spoiled on their hands, and refuse to pay for them. I have sold under order of the Court the lighter " Overton," for $1,900, and the Geo. Midland Construction Co.'s stock at a premium $2,000, receiving for the same $7,000. The shares of the Dynamite Projectile Co., the N. Y. Telegh. Co., and the notes of Donald Cameron & Co., A. R. Case and Robt. Robinson are probably worthless. There may be some value to the Traders and Travelers' Union Shares. A note of Martin Flynn for $600 did not appear in the Inventory, but is now an asset, and proba- bly well secured. The total amount of cash received is $58,843.24. Of this amount I have advanced to the Bushwick Chemical "Works, under order of the Court, and for which I hold the said property, $30,778.39 and $2,598. 84 for other purposes under order of the Court and for salaries, leaving a balance of $25,466.01, $20,000 of which is draw- ing interest in the Mercantile Trust Co. at 2^% per annum. The Bushwick Chemical Works, under an order of Court and by resolution of its Board of Directors, was on August 6th placed in charge of the Receiver to conduct to a successful operation. Ex- penses were reduced wherever it could be done without prejudice to the business, and the works are now running at a profit. An inven- tory taken on Aug. 9th, and again on Sept. 14th, showed a profit for the 36 days of $7,236.26. Another taken on Oct. 14th showed a profit for the month ending at that time of $5,478.63. In neither instance was any allowance made for wear and tear, or office expenses in New York. 4 Its condition on the 14th inst. was as follows : „ . M $37,413.29 Accounts Receivable * Stock Manufactured and in Process L n . 950.02 zjrw 1,210.86 Bills Receivable ; ♦76,609.44 The liabilities at same time were S30 77H 39 Amount due Receiver • 892.76 Other Debts ' $31,171.15 The works are mortgaged for $250,000, and own the N. Y. stores, 55 Fulton Street and 45 Cliff Street, estimated to be worth from $130,000 to $150,000, and mortgaged for $80,000. Neither the Bavonne Works or the Buffalo Chemical Works have asked for any advances from the Receiver, and both, I am told, are doing a good business. List of Creditors BANKS. First Nat.
