No. 200-C — Bull’s-Eye Illuminating Sidewalk Tiling. Price per square foot, $2.00 This was for many years the standard tiling and is today preferred by many. It is strong, durable and serviceable. State size of opening and explain whether measurements include the rabbet or groove. The work is shipped ready to set in place. Tiling should have a bearing of at least two inches on all four sides. It is fully illuminated. No. 201 -D — Concrete Illuminating Smooth Surface Sidewalk Tiling. Always clean, ornamental of great durability and perfectly water tight. It requires no painting, and does not rust. Its surface being made of glass and hydraulic cement, it rather improves by age. It is used in modern office and public buildings, both for interior and exterior. In ordering, give the size of opening and state whether the rabbet or groove is included. Tiling should have a bearing of two inches on all sides. State whether you want a water flange on any side. Do not cut the stone until the sidewalk light is received. Send sketch and dimensions for special estimate. Concrete Sidewalk Tiling. No. 204-B. Made with plain lens price per square foot, $2.10 No. 205-B. Made with multi-prism lens price per square foot, 2.35 No. 206-B. Made with refracting lens price per square foot, 2.60 An architecturally attractive, waterproof and durable construction, entirely reinforced concrete and glass, having no iron beams, therefore is not subject to rust, warpage or buckling. The glass area is unusually large, thereby giving more illumination. Sidewalk lights may be made with any one of the three kinds of lenses or the three styles of glass, if used in conjunction, will give the best result for certain places. The glass near the building support should be plain, (No. 204-B). Then the multi-prism No. 205-B) is inserted to center of the span and to get the light far back in the area under the building, the double angle prism (No. 206-B) should be used for the outer half of the installation. This method gives results, eliminates the beams and carries the concrete arch in the same span. Select kind of lenses preferred, state dimensions of openings to be filled and we will submit a special net price on the work complete. Directions for Putting up Vanes. If the Cupola is finished with a wooden post or finial, there should be an iron ring fitted onto the upper end to prevent splitting. Bore a hole ten inches deep and }4to of an inch larger than the spire, then bore two inches deeper the same size as the spire. For large Vanes bore this hole sixteen inches deep and to inch larger than the spire, then bore two inches deeper the same as the spire. Set in the spire, and drive in long tapering wooden wedges covered with white lead or plastic cement, plumbing the spire as you drive the wedges. Put on the large Ball, letting it rest on the top of the tower or a few inches above it, then put on the letters, setting the letter N to the north by compass or the North Star. Put on the small Ball, and then the Vane. We particularly invite comparison of our Copper Vanes with those of any other manufacturer in this country, as to styles, designs and prices. The price of each Vane includes iron spire, with steel spindle, points of compass, gilded letters and balls. Cheap Vanes are made of galvanized iron or sheet zinc. Zinc contracts and expands by the action of the weather five times as much as copper. The result will be that if you buy a cheap zinc Vane it will crack where united, and soon fall to pieces. The flag staff you supplied us to mark the site of Old Fort Gra- tiot was very satisfactory in every way. We are indebted to Geo. L. J->' The illustration shows our improved remov- able Flag Staff. It is the only removable Flag Staff on the market and will last indefinitely, as there is nothing about it to decay. Can be taken apart and stored for winter sea- son. One man, in less than two minutes, can put the pieces together, place the staff in the socket and raise the flag. If desired, sockets can be supplied which can be attached to the side of the house or roof. The Flag Staffs are made in three pieces. The socket is made of heavy steel. This is easily driv- en. No holes have to be dug. A few strokes of the sledge on the steel cap, provided for the purpose, will bring it level with the ground, so that the lawn mower can be run over it. The cap is afterwards used as a plug for the socket when the staff is not in use. The other two pieces form the Flag Staff and are made of high carbon steel tubing. The lower section is filled with concrete. The upper length of tubing fits into the lower. These poles are furnished in the following heights : 20 ft., 25 ft., 30 ft., 35 ft., 40 ft., 45 ft., and 50 ft. lE.TBI L.y.j No. 5 — Tower Finial. Hayesville, Ohio. E. T. Barnum. T. BARNUM, WIRE AND IRON WORK, DETROIT, MICH TO THE TRADE: Is v our town or county fully supplied with steel cells in its jail or lock-up? If you have no lock up, we think you can, with a little agi- tation, interest the officials in the question. The necessity of a secure place for the detention of drunks, vagabonds and petty criminals is obvious, as it is a constant safeguard against disorderly conduct and crime and a protection to the law abiding citizen. If you have a lock- up, it would pay you to ascertain whether sufficient cell room is pro- vided. In case any changes are contemplated or they have any idea of purchasing additional cells, let us know, and we will send you our jail cell catalog, and if you can secure us the order, it will be a source of profit to you. Our cells are so constructed that they can easily be taken down and removed at any time, and it is therefore not necessary to have a special building. They are often placed in the fire house or town hall. The illustrations herewith show only a small part of what we make in the jail line, and wherever there is a prospective sale, we will be glad to forward our large jail cell catalogue and to give you any infor- mation or assistance in our power, and we think with your co-opera- tion, we can secure the order. If ^ny thing in this line is needed at the county jhil, or in any town throughout your county, let us know and we will take the matter up promptly. No. 9 — Improved Steel Lattice Jail Cell. This cell is usually made 5 feet wide, 6 Vz feet deep, and 6 1 / feet high, but can be made ANY DESIRED SIZE. It is similar in con- struction to Xo. 8 cell, but equipped with many desirable modern ap- pliances for convenience and safety in handling prisoners. The walls and top are of lattice bars of either the Barnum Bessemer Prison or the Barnum Laminated Tool- Proof Steel. A food opening is provided as shown by cut, which obviates the necessity of opening the door to pass food to the prisoner, and the lock is protected in such a manner chat tl pant CANNOT TAMPER WITH IT. Cells may be pro- vided with one or more folding bunks. Steel plate bottom can be fur- nished, if desired, and the top or any part of the walls of cell can be made of solid steel plate instead of lattice work. The cell door shows our automatic “jump” lock bar which is secured to the door and consists of a flat steel bar extending the full height, arranged so that when the door is nushed shut, the lock bar will slide over the lugs and drop down into the slots and securely lock the door from top to bottom. A four-tumbler Yale prison padlock fastens the swinging hasp in place. Send for large Jail Catalogue if interested. Copyrighted by E. T. Barnum, No. 9 — Improved Steel Lattice Jail Cell.
