The standard sizes of our Station House and Lock-up Cells are as follows: For Two Prisoners —4 feet 6 inches wide, 6 feet 6 inches long and 6 feet 6 inches high. For Four Prisoners —6 feet 6 inches wide, 6 feet 6 inches long and 6 feet 6 inches high; but we construct cells any size desired. Usually we construct the fronts, rear and sides of cells of open-work, either grated or lattice, and the top and bottom of solid plate-work, and partitions between cells, where two or more cells are joined together, of solid plate-work. The top of cells can also be made of open-work, grated or lattice, or the fronts, sides or rear of cells of plate-work, if desired, or the steel floors can be omitted and cells made to set on cement or wood floors. Cells for two prisoners are provided with two steel folding bunks, and for four prisoners with four folding steel bunks. One bunk is placed above the other, as shown on subsequent pages of this Catalogue, and each cell is provided with one of our “Patent,” Odorless, Air-tight Night Buckets. We rivet our cells together in large sections and the sections are set up at our works, carefully fitted, painted and plainly marked, then taken down and shipped in sections, together with necessary rivets for erecting, and with the aid of our marked diagram and instructions sent with each shipment, any ordinary mechanic or black¬ smith can set the work up and rivet same together at a small expense. Particular attention is called to the Steel Hinged Angle Lock Bar, which locks the door on front edge from top to bottom, also the method of hinging door by means of a continuous vertical bar passing through the horizontal bars of both the door and section, on which door swings, protected by sleeves of steel tubing, which also hold the horizontal bars in position. The Cell is provided with an opening for the admission of food, and our standard steel folding bunks, which may be folded up when not in use, thereby leaving the entire cell space for the prisoners to exercise. To open the lid, push the handle to one side and lift the lid off. In this cut, letters “A” and “B” represent the bucket and lid, letter “C” the cam, which, when handle is turned, works through the slotted ears “F” on lid; letter “D” represents the air cushion, letter “E” the rubber gasket, which, in combination with air cushion “D”, forms a perfectly air-tight packing when lid is drawn down by cam “C”. Y., Penitentiary, near Syr¬ acuse, and the printed report of the New York State Board of Prison Commissioners mentions this prison as being the best and most modern in the State of New York. This block of cells, as shown, is 42 feet high and 144 feet long, and contains five tiers of double row Steel Cells, there being 44 cells in each tier, and 22 cells in each row. The other wing is similar to the one shown. We completed these cells during the year of 1900, and equipped same with our Patented Locking and Operating Device and Sliding Doors, whereby any door or any number of doors, or all the doors in one row (22 doors) can be unlocked, opened, closed and locked from Lever Box in Guard’s Corridor, at end of Cell Block. The cells are arranged with a central utility corridor and Niche Closet System, and prisoners’ walks along fronts of cells, enclosed with steel grating.
