The average No. 1 Fir Door will compare favorably in grade with the usual A. A. A. of the Official List when extra finished, besides showing beauties of grain not found in soft or other semi-hardwood doors. The No. 1 Door, which is usually finished in the natural or with transparent stains, is graded so that any defects admitted will not affect detrimentally the appearance of the door after it has received the finish. The No. 2 Door as graded is primarily a high grade paint or enamel finish door alid the selects are fre¬ quently used for transparent stains. The No. 3 Door, which is supplied in limited quanti¬ ties, is equally substantial, but the defects are of such a character that this door must ordinarily be used for paint finish. It is impossible to maintain absolutely arbitrary rules in fixing grades, and slight variations within reason and governed by practical common sense may be expected. A shipment of any grade must represent a fair aver age of that grade and must not consist of an unfair proportion of the better or poorer doors of such grade. GRADES (Definite) No. 1 DOOR Material in No. 1 Fir Doors must be clear with the exception that each stile may contain a carefully repaired pitch seam, not over 3% inches long, not over 35 inches from the bottom of the door. Bottom rail may contain the same defects as the stiles. Not more than two defects on each side of door. Bright sap not considered a defect. Workmanship must be good. No. 2 DOOR Stiles in No. 2 Doors may each contain two sound knots not over % inch in diameter, or two carefully repaired pitch seams not over 6 inches long, or slightly stained material. Bottom rails and wide lock rails may contain the same defects as the stiles. Bails and muntins not over one defect in each. Panels may each contain slightly discolored material and one small pitch seam, not over 3% inches long. Not over ten defects on each side of a door. Workmanship must be good. No. 3 DOOR Stiles in No. 3 Doors may each contain discolored material, sound knots not over 1 % inehes in diameter, and pitch seams not over 8 inches long. Bottom rail and wide lock rails may each contain the same defects as stiles. Other rails and muntins proportionate defects. Panels may each contain pitch seams, tight knots not over % inch in diameter and discolored material This grade is suitable for paint only. Mixed woods admitted. Defects in workmanship allowed. 106 JohnA.Gauger&Company OFFICIAL GRADES SASH, DOORS AND BLINDS d, Adopted bj the Wholesale Sash, Door and Blind Manufacturers’ Association of the Northwest. si DOORS No. 1 Quality. Be explicit in ordering. Do not assume that we know what you want. Always give width first, length or height second, then thickness. Always use inches to designate glass size, and feet j and inches for openings or outside measurements. SASH AND WINDOW The term “Sash” indicates only one piece to fill opening. The term “Window” indicates two pieces (upper and lower sash). State size of glass, number of lights, opening (unless ii regular stock) and thickness. State whether open or glazed, and if glazed whether single or double strength. If a window whether check or plain rail. Where a window or sash is ordered with top and bottom lights of different heights (example, 2-lt. 40x 30x38), it is understood that the first measurement (40) is the width of both lights, that the second meas¬ urement (30) is the height of the top light, and that the third measurement (38) is the height of the bottom light. If segment or circle head give number of style de¬ sired and radius of circle or segment if not regular, i When Circle Head not otherwise specified we will fur¬ nish Style No. 2 with a radius one-half the width of the sash, less the width of the stile, and for Segment . Head Style No. 4 with a radius the width of the sash, less the width of the stile. When an odd sash or window is ordered always give both glass size and number of lights and outside open¬ ing, and, if possible send sketch. If glass sizes only are given, we will understand that regular stock widths of stiles, rails and bars are required. Note—All windows and sash are understood to be glazed unless ordered open specifically. DOORS State width, height and thickness, number of panels and arrangement of same and quality. State style of sticking unless O. G. is desired. If moulded, state whether flush or raised mould one or two sides. If odd, send sketch or detail. Odd doors will be made with regular stock widths of stiles, rails, muntins and panels unless specifically ordered otherwise. 108 Y Goods Damaged in Transit t, & fti It is, however, a part of Gauger Service to assist our customers in collecting their claims where our shipment reaches them in a damaged condition, but you must support any claim you make by adhering to the following instructions strictly: a in i a 8* ail You must examine the shipment before you take it from the railroad station.
