If the pressure at the point where the closet is to be used is less than 13 lbs. per square inch , order a low pressure. 2 Thos. Kelly & Bros., Chicago. DESCRIPTION OK THE KELLY SELF-ACTING WATER CLOSET. FOR HIGH PRESSURE. (Over 15 lbs. per square inch.) When the seat is occupied the inlet side of the valve opens and the waste or closet side of the valve closes. The water then passes up to the tank and fdls it as far as the pressure of the water can compress the air. When the seat is vacated the inlet side of the valve closes and the waste or closet side of the valve opens. The compressed air then drives the water into the closet with great force, thoroughly scouring the bowl, trap, soil pipe and drain. FOR IOW PRESSURE. (Less than 15 lbs. per square inch.) The Low Pressure Closet is the same, except that the Kelly Air Vent is used on top of the tank to let the air out and in, but allows no water to escape. DESCRIPTION OF VALVE. The balls are rubber, and by moving the lever one ball shuts and the other opens. There is no friction or wear to the balls. If it was possible for them to wear it would not affect the working of the closet. Even if half of each ball was cut off, the lever would bring them to their seats. Sectional Cut of Valve. The only Moving Part on the Closet Two Rubber Ralls. ADVANTAGEOUS POINTS OF THE KELLY CLOSET. No Noise. — The tank fills without a particle of noise ; the person using it could not tell the water was connected! the powerful flush lasts about five seconds, and makes less noise than a basin, cock, or faucet over a sink. No Overflows. — The tank being air-tight, and proved to two hundred pounds pressure per square inch, no watei can escape. No Sweating or Dripping, as the tank is empty except while the seat is occupied, thus preventing dampness and diseases caused by it. Less Room is required than for any other closet. The cheapest flushing closet in the market. Cleanliness. — It will always remain perfectly clean. No Repairs. — It is impossible to get out of order or be put out of order by use. No Freezing. — Our Figures 3 and 3J2 are proof against frost. No Smell. Low Ceilings. — It does not matter how high or low the ceiling is, the tank can be placed any height above the seat, and will give the same flush. This is an advantage where closets are placed under stairways. No Waste. — The Tank measures an exact quantity each flush, and the pressure tends to close the valve tighter. Where water meters are used we guarantee the closet to show a saving of water over any other make. Only One Pipe, — Galvanized iron or brass, which cannot get jammed by tipping back the seat. An Ornament. — It does not require boxing in, which costs money and spoils the appearance of the room. Powerful Flush. — The full benefit of the water works pressure is obtained, giving the closet from three to twenty five times the flushing power of any other closet. No Stopping up. The faults of all other closets are corrected in the Kelly Closet, and it has a great many advantages that will be promptly seen by parties well posted on water closets. We will give a Reward of $IOO to any person who can squarely point out a fault In the Kelly Self-Acting Closet. Tiios. Kelly & Bros., Chicago. 3 Fig. i. THE KELLY SELF-ACTING WASHOUT CLOSET. PEDESTAL WASHOUTS furnished at an Additional Cost, Price, complete, as shown in cut, except pipe, $47.50 Decorated Tank, add 3.00 Above Price Includes Drip Tray. This will not be sold without Drip Tray. This cut represents the Kelly Self-Acting Washout Closet, which is suitable for both public and private use. It should never be placed where liable to freeze, as the trap remains full of water, and would therefore be destroyed in case of freezing. For cold places we recommend our Figs. 3 And 3 /^j which cannot be injured by frost. 4 Thos. Kelly & Bros., Chicago Fig. iy 2 . Above Price Includes Drip Tray. Tins will not be sold without Drip Tray. The Tank and all Iron Work connected with our Closets is Brightly Galva- nized. Price, complete, as shown in cut, except pipe, $47 50 Decorated Tank, add 3 00 Fig- 1/4 is the same as Fig. i, except that it has no Trap above the floor. The usual lead Trap must be placed beneath the floor. This Closet can be exposed to frost without danger — but not extreme cold. (See Figs. 3 and 3^4 for Closets for use in cold places.) This Closet can be used to replace Pan Closets without changing the Trap. Thos. Kelly & Bros., Chicago. 5 Fig. 2. THE KELLY LOCK-PULL WASHOUT CLOSET. Price, complete, as shown in cut, except pipe, $47 50 Decorated Tank, add 3 00 Above Price Includes Drip Tray. This will not be sold without Drip Tray, Polished Brass Legs and Trimmings furnished at an additional cost. The Lock Pull will be furnished with any form of Earthenware, same price as Self-Acting. Fig. 2 is not Self-Acting — it is intended for private use only. When the Pull is lifted up and folded back as shown in cut, the Tank fills. When released the water in the tank discharges into the Closet. It can be flushed out as often as the occupant wishes. 6 Thos. Kelly & Bros., Chicago. Fig. 3- THE KELLY SELF-ACTING WATER CLOSET. This Closet is frost-proof except the supply pipe lead- ing to the Valve. The Closet, Valve or Tank cannot be injured by frost, as they con- tain no water except while the seat is occupied. Sectional Cut of the Kelly Self-Acting Water Closet, Fig. 3. Price, complete, as shown in cut, except pipe, $34.50 Decorated Tank, add 3.00 Above Price Includes Drip Tray. This will not be sold without Drip Tray. This Closet can be used to replace Pan Closets, or any form of Closet with a Trap under the floor, with- out alteration. This is our Standard Closet. We can conscientiously recommend it for any place. A lead trap is placed beneath the floor (see sectional cut). The Water Seal in the Trap prevents sewer gas from entering, and the powerful flush cleans everything to the main sewer. Not the slightest trace of paper or excrement can be seen by the time the occupant arises from the seat and turns around to look in the Closet. Thos. Kelly & Bitos., Chicago. 7 Fig- 3^z- The Kelly SELF-ACTING, FROST PROOF, AFTER-FLUSH CLOSET. (For extreme eold places only.) When the seat is occupied, the Tank fills ; when vacated, the water in the Tank discharges into the Closet. The Pipe and Valve drain into the Trap as shown, leav- ing no water above freezing point, it mat- ters not at what height above the seat the Tank is placed. Price, complete, as shown in cut, except pipe and Trap, - $34 50 Decorated Tank, add - - 3 00 Above price includes Drip Tray. This will not be sold without Drip Tray. Fig. 3 is preferable to this except in extreme cold places. i 8 Tiros. Kelly & Bkos., Chicago. Fig. 4. THE KELLY SELF-ACTING WATER CLOSET. This will nut be sold without Drip Tray. This form is preferable to Fig 3 in warm climates or in build- ings that are always heated. We have deep seal closets of this form that hold a large body of water, and our patent con- cealed joint makes this Closet perfection. Fig. 4. All porcelain, with Trap above floor. It will be found convenient for replacing Plunger Closets without alteration of pipe below the floor, but it must not be put where it is apt to freeze ; in such cases use Figs. 3 or 3j4- Thos. The earthenware of this or any make of our Closets we will decorate in artistic style at a reasonable price by giving us thirty days’ time, so it can be decorated under the glaze. This Closet will not be sold without Drip Tray. All our Seats are made in the best manner possible, and hung with heavy brass strap hinges. 10 Thos. Kelly & Bkos., Chicago. V Fig. 6. \ THE KELLY FROST-PROOF PULL CLOSET. The Cheapest Closet in the Market. When the Pull is raised the Valve opens and flushes the Closet. When the Pull is released the Valve closes and empties the pipe above the valve. See Fig, J l / Z , Page 7, before ordering this style. The top wash cleans the Bowl and the bottom wash drives the stuff through the Trap. Prices include everything shown in cut except pipe and Trap. This closet is intended for use in all places where exposed to frost. The Valve should be placed below freezing point, with the waste side connected with the Trap of Closet. The Valve may be placed any distance from the Closet, as it is operated by means of a Pull and Chain, and with the use'Of Pulleys run in any direction desired. When the Pull is raised the Valve opens and 4 flushes the Closet ; when released the supply side of the Valve closes and the waste opens and empties the pipe above the Valve. If it is desired to run continually while the seat is occupied, it may be operated with a Kelly Lock Pull as shown in Fig. 18, or with the seat by means of our Valve with extended lever and an upright rod. If either of the last named styles are wanted, please mention it in ordering. Fig. 7 . — After-Flush. imf A good Self-Acting Urinal is something that has long been needed, for there is not one man in one hundred who will turn on a Urinal cock ; they either forget it or else it is too filthy to handle. The smell from a filthy Urinal is even more disagreeable than from a filthy water closet. The weight and chain can be concealed. Fig- Price on Treadle, $5 00 Price on Valve, see Fig. 12. Fig. 7 %. Frost-Proof U rinal. For public places this apparatus will be found to meet a long felt want, from the fact that it requires no attention on the part of the user. The flushing apparatus is operated with the Treadle. While standing on this Treadle the Tank fills with water, and when vacated the water discharges into the Urinal, thoroughly cleansing it. The Treadle can bo tilted back to allow cleaning the floor, etc. This is the only Self-Acting, After-Flush Urinal apparatus in the market. This Vent has been used with good results on hot water circulation, green-house work, etc. This Vent is only necessary where the pressure is under 15 lbs. per square inch. Screwed on the top of the Tank into which the water passes it drives the air out, and when the water rises to the top it floats the Rubber Ball to its seat and allows no water to escape. When the water is discharging from the Tank the Ball drops and admits the air. We also furnish Check Valves on the same principle for lead or iron pipe. Price, Each, $2.00 SWIVEL. Price, Fig. 9 y 2 . The Kelly Stop and Waste Cocks have now been on the market for the past six years, and there are over fifty thousand of them in use throughout the country ; we therefore consider it unnecessary to take up space in describing it or dwelling on its merits, as the number of sales and testimonials from practical Plumbers and Architects in the United States is the best evidence of its practicability and usefulness. Our Self-Closing Hopper Cocks have also met with the same favor, in fact have been adopted and used exclusively by various Water Companies. See Back Cover for fuller description. Fig. io. Figs. 19, 20 and 21 are the same in principle as Figs. 10 and 12, the difference being that the Lever can be up over the floor and the Cork buried in the ground (fully described in our circular of 1882). We have nothing to say of their merits, but will sell them to those who might prefer them. But we absolutely guarantee Figs. 10 and 12 in any climate or circumstances when put up by a plumber. Price, for Figs. 19, 20 or 21, ' AVERY LIBRARY Each, $5.00 THE KELLY WATER CUSHION. P Fig. 22. MCE, $2.00 EACH. For Lead or Iron, Nothing to Get Out of Order, No Way to Put it Up Wrong, It will Work in Any Position, The difference in Figs. 22 and 23 is that Fig. 22 has lugs for screwing to wall. Either will be furnished for lead or iron pipe, but we will send for lead unless they are ordered for iron pipe. The balls are rubber ; the nipple is brass ; the casing is cast iron galvan- ized. Weight, 6 Lbs. Each. Fuller Cocks or Spring Cocks can be used on any pressure where the Cushions are put in. Fig. 23. TO PREVENT WATER HAMMER, JARRING# BURSTING OF PIPES. No More Rattling or Pounding Noise in the Water Pipes. No More Mysterious Bursts. Bursting of Pipe often Supposed to be Caused by Freezing is Caused by Concussion. THE KELLY WATER CUSHION PREVENTS SUCH BURSTS. Architects would do well to specify one Cushion at each fixture ; this will make the work last longer, save expense, annoyance of repairs, and flooding of buildings. Water Hammer is very destructive to kitchen boilers. Almost any good make of kitchen boiler will stand a steady pressure, but the hammer caused by suddenly closing a cock will run the pressure up to 300 lbs. per square inch. No fixture or pipe can be expected to stand this long. This Cushion takes off the additional strain and prevents excessive pressure. No regulator or governor necessary where the Cushions are used. JUi B 1 Ke ;Li 7 Stop 81 j id 4 Wa St £ Q/0G TO PREVENT WATER PIPE FROM FREEZING. T HIS Cut shows the convenience of the Kelly Cock. The same result could not be accomplished by any other means. Where a sink stands in from the main wall the chain can be run close against the main wall and carried out on pulleys to a point over the sink, as shown in cut, thus obviating the necessity of going down cellar, or out in the cold hall, to shut off the water. The Second point is, if rods were used they could not be kept close to the wall, without cutting away the foundation, and if so, the offsets in the wall at each story, would throw the rod out one foot or more, at the top floor. The ease with which this cock can be operated from any part of the building should recommend it alone. When shut off the water in the pipe empties in two or three seconds, leaving nothing to freeze or leak. The simplicity of its construction, together with its dura- bility, leaves no room for improvement, its interior being composed of two Rubber Balls, closing and opening alter- nately. When either Ball is shut the pressure of water has a tendency to close them tigher, thus making it impossible for the cock to leak. Its first cost is but a trifle more than the ground cock, which soon leaks and costs money to replace, wastes water, spoils the foundation of the building, and causes other trouble that can be obviated by getting a good article in the start. Hundreds of attempts have been made to get up a practical Stop and Waste Cock, but the KELLY COCK is the only one that has ever found a market. There are now 50,000 of them in use.
