^\V A World’s Waffs Broadcasting Station Y JE y^ ^Yi ;/Y K- T. PAUL, Calcutta QE SHERWOOD EDDY , 8 A. M., December 29th, 1923 Hello K. just read your letter of November fifteenth, reasonable, but I don’t see how we can possibly meet them Paul — Don’t say.you can’t send us a man to fill Dr. Farquhar’s place! We must have a man on Christian literature for India. Paul — But listen, Sherwood! work drop. Heinrichs goes home on sick leave. We can’t let his lecture Eddy — We are working with every ounce of energy, but Paul — Do the men of North America know what service these men are giving to India? How Eddy — Those who know are giving; we are trying to tell them and to organize so that every man can help. The economic problem of the United States Paul — True, but India has her economic problem and social and political unrest besides. It is hard to get money enough for our local Associations, to say nothing of the National Council. You won’t cut the usual subsidy for our National work? Eddy — It’s still doubtful. Paul — But, man! India’s Y.M.C.A. is in a critical state! If you withdraw secretaries and cut off our subsidy it means disaster! Can’t you get this over to the North American Y.M.C.A. s? Eddy — We have ten days more to do it. I tell you, K. T., we are doing our utmost. We still have to get $613,849 in cash from Associations and individual contributors to complete the budget for 1923. The Associations are speeding up; but half of this amount is not yet pledged. Paul — I appreciate tremendously what you are doing. It’s life or death to us. Eddy — I’ll tell them what you say. I know our American and Canadian friends. I am certain that when they have the facts they will see you through. Issued by FOREIGN DIVISION, International Committee Y. M. C. A.
