P 13 O- Time- and Labor-Saving Improvements That Have Made the Sellers Famous ' I O things are necessary in a kitchen cabinet. One, of course, is beauty. No one would enjoy working with a cabinet that is ugly. But there is another thing of even greater importance than beauty and that is convenience. A kitchen cabinet is made to save work. It must be convenient or it fails in its purpose. The Sellers Kitchen Cabinet is beautiful. But even greater than beauty is its convenience. Since the very beginning our aim has been to make the Sellers the ‘‘world’s most convenient kitchen cabinet.” To accomplish this we have created and perfected many exclusive improvements for saving time and labor. Sellers invented and introduced the now famous Automatic Lowering Flour Bin. Sellers also introduced the indispensable Automatic Base Shelf Extender. On no cabinets but the Sellers do you find the Patented Ant-proof Casters. These and many other features of the Sellers are described on the following pages. They are largely responsible for the great service rendered to thousands of house¬ wives by the Sellers Kitchen Cabinet. You will find them combined in no other kitchen cabinet in the world. And we seriously doubt if you would want a single one of them omitted from your cabinet. Extending Table Drawer Section When the worktable is pulled out, the whole drawer structure comes forward. Table drawers pull out beyond it. This means that the housewife can easily reach into the very back of the drawer, even when the table is covered with cooking materials and utensils. The trouble of hav¬ ing to unload the table or squeeze the hand in through a small opening is eliminated. Silverware Drawer This new and exclusive feature is a great favorite with most women. It is just above the roll front. Occupies space otherwise wasted. The d rawer has re¬ movable plush-lined bottom. Pull out drawer and you find ample accommodations for the silver¬ ware most frequently used. Saves the trouble of going to the buffet or pantry every time that silver is needed. f 14 Automatic Lowering Flour Bin It comes down level with the worktable. Xo heavy lifting or treacherous climbing is recjuired when filling it. Even when filled to the top, a little lift swings it quietly back into position. There are now some flour bins with a mechanism, that in the pictures, resembles the Automatic Lower¬ ing Flour Bin. However, the Sellers is the original and only one with the action described, rhink of the labor saved here! It has required thirty years of constant study to bring the beautiful Sellers to its present state of perfection as an efficient, labor-saving servant for the modern kitchen. We seriously doubt if any other cabinet—^let alone any cabinet built into a house by men who are not kitchen cabinet e.xperts—can even suggest a similarity to Sellers completeness. Automatic Base Shelf Extender Lhis is another labor and time- saver. W hen the lower cupboard door opens, the base shelf of pots and pans is automatically brought within easy reach of the person at the cabinet. This saves the trouble of getting down on the knees and digging into the back of the cupboard for the pot or pan that is needed. Ant-proof Casters This is another feature that women want and which may not be had with the built-in cabinet, d'hese casters have a channel around the top. W hen this chan¬ nel is filled with a little common borax and the cabinet set about an inch from the wafl, a barrier is set up which no ant will cross. Lhese pests detest borax and will not go near it. The same is true of roaches and other vermin. IS Sanitary Stain-proof White Porceliron Table Top This is the modern table top. Absolutely smooth and white. Will not chip or crack. Proof against the continued use of the acids commonly found in fruits and other foodstuffs. Pulls out and automatically locks. This saves many a mishap, such as accidentally bumping into the table when it is in use, thereby causing the table to slide in, and its contents to be deposited on the floor. Porceliron Worktable (The Invisible Base Top is immediately below Table) Dust and Mouse- proof Invisible Base Top beneath the Porceliron Worktable This is one of those extra touches you find in the Sellers. It keeps the dust from getting under the worktable and muss¬ ing the pots and pans and other things in the lower cupboard. Also is ample protection against mice, which may possibly get into the lower cupboard by way of the space usually found under the worktable. Sanitary Glass Drawer Pulls These pulls have many advan¬ tages over ordinary metal pulls. They are clean. They do not tarnish, rgardless of aee. They not only sparkle and shine, but they are sanitary. Steam-proof, Oil Hand-rubbed Oak Finish Sellers Kitchen Cabinets are finished in beautiful White En¬ amel and also in our rich Golden Oak. The Oak finish has a silky smooth, oil hand-rubbed surface which is extremely enduring. Tests show that It easily resists steam and the constant changes of atmosphere and temperature in the kitchen. Sanitary Base Construction To be able to sweep and clean underneath and around the cabi¬ net is a feature that every woman wants. The Sellers is built up¬ on legs. Cleaning is easy. Every inch of floor can be reached. Sellers Cutlery Set This set consists of ten pieces, high-grade cutlery, as illustrated, fitted in a specially built drawer. Made by the largest producers of cutlery in the country and fully guaranteed. Hardwood handles are well finished and shaped to fit the hand. This set is fully up to Sellers standards in every way. Made In three sizes: Xo. 5.24x36 No. 6 . 25 x40^ No. 8.27x48 20 a The Latest Idea is to Incorporate a Sellers in Kitchen Plans The Built-in Cupboard or Kitchen Dresser Is Now Considered Out-of-T>ate OO Srb'ADILY has the housewife’s demand O for better time-saving and labor-saving kitchen equipment increased that today architects are being required to give more and more atten¬ tion to the designing of kitchens which embody these essential pieces of equipment. It has been customary, for example, to build in kitchen cupboards or, as they are sometimes called, kitchen dressers. But architects are find¬ ing today that this type of equipment does not meet the needs of the housewife. She demands, not a storage cabinet, but a workbench of the most modern type. She demands a Sellers with its many time- and labor-saving features. As a result of this demand the nation’s most prominent architects are incorporating the Sel¬ lers in the kitchens of dwellings and apartment houses. The Sellers is a part of the plans. Either an accurate space or recess is allowed for it or it is supplied as standard equipment. There are three reasons why the Sellers is superior to any built-in; 1. SANITATION Any cupboard that Is built in and attached to the wall is subject to the inroads of insects of all kinds, such as ants, cockroaches and other vermin, while mice and rats frequently make such a cupboard an unfit place for food. It is an actual matter of record that many such cabinets have had to be torn out and the whole side of the kitchen rebuilt in order to get rid of vermin. This cannot possibly happen with a Sellers Kitchen Cabinet. It Is absolutely sanitary; it is independent of the wall and the floor; it can be moved around; it can be swept under, inside and out; it is protected by patented ant-proof casters and mouse-proof invisible base top. 2. CONVENIENCE No built-in cupboard or dresser can possibly afford the same convenience as a Sellers Kitchen Cabinet because these features are an integral part of the Sellers Kitchen Cabinet only and are not on sale for built-in purposes. The Sellers has more worth-while labor-saving features than any other kitchen cabinet. A list of all these wonderful features will be found else¬ where in this booklet. 3. COST A built-in cupboard, even if it could be made to afford any such conveniences as the Sellers Kitchen Cabinet does, would be prohibitive in price. Even the built-in substitute costs at least SO to 100 per cent more than the best Sellers Kitchen Cabinet and has none of the conveniences that the Sellers affords. Architects of note arc making some very efficient and attractive adaptations of the Sellers in the designing of modern kitchens. This is especially true in their application to the smaller kitchens of the high-class apartment houses and hotels. On the following pages we show some of these modern kitchens, designed by Richard E. Schmidt, Garden and Martin of Chicago, who won a prize in the recent Tribune Building Contest. Further on we show some of the prominent apartment houses and hotels in which Sellers Kitchen Cabinets arc furnished as standard equipment. See Modern Apartments on Following Pages cv 21 memmsmsm m Model kitchen for a medium-sized house u’ith space provided for a Sellers T he plan liere shown utilizes every inch of space in the kitchen without crowding and provides e\’ery desirable feature of a model kitchen arrangement in proper relation, as outlined in the architect's plan. Routes for the preparation of meals and the clearing away are arranged to lead from left to right and right to left, respectively. By routes are meant the logical paths you fol¬ low from cabinet to stove, to sink, to serving table, etc., in preparing meals, and the same in clearing away and clean up after meals. In a well-planned kitchen e\'er\' move is made in the most logical way. Cross \entilation, outside icing, with recei\ing door for supplies above, ventilated closet for garbage can, dish cupboard over sink, with serv¬ ice through to dining-room, are all provided. For this size kitchen the Mastercraft, Special. Klear Front. No. 605 or No. 60 Sellers Kitchen Cabinets are best to use. 22 & - ---V, Model arrangement for apartment house showing cabinet in space planned for it B y reason of the restricted outside exposure and limited exits in apartment houses, it is sometimes necessary to deviate from the logical route plans. The necessity of lighting the articles of equipment where actual work is done makes the relation between refrigerator and cabinet the least important, and the grouping is made accord¬ ingly. However, the essential elements of proper routing are retained in this kitchen with this one exception. For a kitchen of this size the Sellers ‘'Special” or Klear Front 42 is most practical. It is the standard, typical kitchen cabinet having a beauti¬ ful finish and all modern Sellers improvements. 23 ' 1 --- ' 1 Model arrangement for large residence kitchen, showing the Sellers tn its prearranged position T he arrangement of the large residence kitchen where a servant may be employed does not differ from the small, compact kitchen of the medium-sized house in any essential ele¬ ment or in the nature of the routes of operation. The cook’s pantry is the chief source of supplies and contains the refrigerator. A small sink is provided near the cook’s cabinet as an added convenience. The scullery sink, where only pots, pans and vegetables would be washed, is pur¬ posely removed from inter¬ ference with any service to the dining-room, so that a maid can work without hampering service or preparation in any way. The Sellers Kitchen Cabinet is properly placed to save needless steps in operation. The oven of the range is placed on the left side and the large ser\ing table with electric warming ovens near by, and dish cupboards open¬ ing to both sides provide the greatest convenience for prompt service from kitchen to butler’s pantry and thence to the dining¬ room. Note that cross ven¬ tilation is obtained. The Alastercraft Special and Klear Front Sellers Kitchen Cabinets are especially suitable for the kitchen of this size. P 24 Model kitchen showing Sellers Kitchen Cabinet recessed in center of Auxiliary Shelves and Lockers T his picture shows a very modern kitchen designed by the prominent Chicago archi¬ tects, Richard E. Schmidt, Garden & Martin. In the arrangement we see the utilization of the Sellers Kitchen Cabinet carried out in a very effective and practical way. The cabinet as you will note is placed in a recess in the center of a built-in arrangement of shelves and lockers. All woodwork is made to match the Sellers so that the complete outfit becomes a single unit. An arrangement of this kind makes possible all the labor-saving features of the Sellers, with the addition of lockers for mops, brooms, etc., disappearing ironing boards, addi¬ tional linen storage space, etc. The limit to which this combination may be carried is the limit of the designer’s ingenuity. The Sellers used in this assembly is the Master- craft, with shelves above carrying the woodwork ceiling high. 25 Another of the very modern kitchen arrangements with the Sellers as a part of a large assembly A ny home owner or architect will get the idea of this kitchen arrangement. It again shows the Sellers inset in a recess and surrounded by additional equipment. In this design the Sellers Mastercraft with the auxiliary top cupboard (unit “B”) is used. See page 4. This cabinet lines up with the doors. No shelves are built above the cabinet. To the right, as you look at the picture, is a built-in refrigerator. .\bove is a storage locker. To the left is a locker which may accommodate an ironing board or be used for other purposes. Above is another locker. The variety of arrangements and the utility of these kitchen assemblies is practically w'ithout end. And as may readily be seen they make a most impressive as well as a most practical piece of equipment. And best of all, they include the Sellers and therefore insure the indispensable time- and labor-saving features for which the Sellers is famous. f 26 Model arrangement for farmhouse kitchen showing the location of the Sellers T he farmhouse kitchen should be slightly larger than the kitchen of the same size city house. It is farther away from city markets, and therefore must provide larger storage spaces, not only to care for the farm produce for the table of the farmer’s family, but for the preparation of produce which is often sold to others. Especial at¬ tention is given to pro¬ viding easy access to the cellar, both from outside and from kitchen for the storage of milk, fruit, etc. in quantity. In planning the farm kitchen, a dumb-waiter from the cellar to the pantry will save many steps and the carrying of heavy loads. A dining alcove adds much to the general convenience. The Sellers Kitchen Cabinet, of course, is an essential unit, owing to its many labor-saving conveniences and storage capacity. For service in this kitchen the Master- craft with unit “B”. Master- craft or Spe¬ cial Sellers Kitchen Cab¬ inets are usu¬ ally preferred. 27 Two typical modem apartment kitchens in which a SELLERS Kitchen Cabinet is furnished as standard equipment These views are from the Churchill Apart¬ ments, Chicago, Illinois. 67 Sellers Specials in JChite Enamel are used in this apartment building 28 Modern apartment build¬ ings and hotels equip kitchens SELLERS Kitchen Cabinets See Next Page 29 Miami Florida O NE of the very finest apart¬ ment buildings in the South, in which the best of modern equipment alone has been used. One is to design and perfect the article he makes to best serve its purpose. The other is to perfect his manufacturing process so that he can produce the article at a price that will place it within the reach of the average home. In the history of the G. I. Sellers and Sons Company, this has been accomplished. Sellers quality is today acknowledged everywhere. The cabinet and its remarkable features are known to practically every home in every city, town and hamlet in the United States. Sellers prices, too, are very reasonable. Despite the difference in quality and in conveniences you can buy a Sellers at no higher price than is charged for any good cabinet without the features which Sellers has created and perfected. Furthermore, there are several models as shown in this book. All are Sellers cabinets. All are of Sellers quality. Prices cover quite a range. In addition, most merchants sell Sellers Kitchen Cabinets On Easy Terms Quite possibly the Sellers dealer in your town does business on this modern plan. By paying him a few dollars down and a little each month vou can have a Sellers. ¥ On this easy plan we suggest that you select one of the most complete. In this way you can enjoy the very utmost of time-and labor-saving convenience and pay for it while you use it. If there are any questions you would like to ask, we will be happy to answer them. If there are any suggestions you feel like making, we shall be happy to receive them. G. I.
