 building stone department of our business, which contains views of quarries and 
 buildings erected with our stone, price list and such information as will be useful to 
 those contemplating building, laying sidewalks or using stone in any manner. 
 
 This company was organized and incorporated under the laws of the State of 
 Ohio, in July, 1886, and succeeds the following firms and corporations by purchase 
 of their entire stone interests, in lands, machinery, stock on hand and good will,

 We shall work only such quarries as will produce the maximum quantity and 
 quality of stone at the minimum of cost. 
 
 Aided by the very best improved machinery and tools, and purchasing our 
 supplies in large quantities at spot cash rates, we have no hesitation in saying we can 
 fill promptly all demands for our goods, at the very lowest prices. 
 
 Our shipping facilities are the best, having competing lines of railroad con- 
 necting with all of our quarries, and being heavy shippers we can always secure the 
 lowest rates of freight. 
 
 We have a private line of telegraph from this office to those of our superinten- 
 dents at Berea and Amherst, and our own telephone lines from these points to all the 
 quarries, thus greatly facilitating the prompt shipment of orders.

 quantities at short notice. We have furnished stone for many of the heaviest rail- 
 road and county bridges in this country. The New York, Chicago & St. Louis 
 Railroad Co. used over 1,000,000 cubic feet in the construction of their road, which 
 was furnished from our quarries in four months without interruption to our regular 
 business.

 The average crushing strain as determined by (^. A. Gilmore, L . S. A., on 
 five cubes 2 inches square, was 8,630 pounds per square inch. 
 
 The Amherst and Berea sandstones are widely known and are without an equal 
 in the market. They are chemically nearly pure silica and are scarcely more 
 affected by weathering than the Best granite. They are also very refractory and will 
 endure exposure to fire by which granite or limestone would be entirely destroyed. 
 
 Their strength varies from 8,000 to 12,000 pounds to the cubic inch ; from two 
 to four times that of the best brick work, at least •sufficient to endure any weight 
 likely to be imposed upon them by modern architecture. 
 
 The color of the Buff stone is a light drab, warm and cheerful ; that of the 
 Berea and Blue Amherst being a delicate and attractive greyish blue, both being 
 uniform and unchangeable, with a texture fine and homogeneous, without flaws, iron 
 or clay balls. These qualities are rarely found in as great perfection combined in 
 one stone, and are such as fully warrant the high reputation which the Amherst and 
 Berea sandstones enjoy. They are everywhere highly appreciated for their beauty, 
 durability, and the ease and certainty with which they are worked.
