It will pay in the long run to give a great deal of attention to this part of the plan.. The best may cost more to begin with, but you’ll have no _ trouble after- ward. If you specify our High Crade , Plumbing and Heating Goods, which you can see in working operation at our Show Rooms, your plumber wili put them in. Should you wish to feel certain that your | cook will be happy and contented, insist upon having the ‘Rossmore Range;” it has stood the test for over thirty years. Hun- dreds of people in this city and elsewhere testify to the great satisfaction given them from putting in the “Rossmore” Boiler. You can be relieved of all anxiety regard- ing the cold weather by using one of them. 200 & 202 Dan LALOUT Dp, 2523 > ~ AVERY LIBRARY COL!'MBIA UNIVERSITY a Scar i = SRS oe pr “ ~ r see oo ge Rca — = Staats, Be = = oa) vee. ae, Ca ne a a rR UE ate aE I I a RE a RES NR eC a Sy epee oO Se EN IN er Sees) = - Ase INTRO DUCTION © = CGA AIR KES T is my intention to place before a critical public a set of designs of such character that intending house builders, wearied by the morotonous sameness of much suburban aly architecture, may see what can be accomphshed in the way of real and artistic varia- foe tions in style. In modern water closets the trap is in the bowl and being filled with water prevents sewer gas escaping = into the house through the closet bowl , but does not prevent gas escaping from 7 the joint at base of bowl where closet is connected with soil pipe, should this joint be improperly sealed. The com- mon way of setting a closet is with putty or cement and that is all that forms the connection between closet and lead soil pipe. The putty joint is easily disturbed by any sudden jar or by shrinking of the floor and settling of the building. Even should this not cause it to open, the putty soon becomes dry and gradually cracks and crumbles away, allowing the deadly sewer gas from the sewer or cess- pool to escape into the house, Even should water not appear at first, damp- ness and moisture under the closet bowl will soon rot away the floor so that it is impossible to reset the closet at all. Do not blame the Plumber if the closet leaks in a short time after setting, for knowing the danger of sewer gas and its deadly “ effect in a house, few if any would slight \ a job of this sort, in fact they do the best they can with what they have to do with and frequently crack the base of bowl in trying to make a tight joint. In our new closet fitted with our patent sanitary coupling we have embraced the twu principal features, viz: sanitation and strength and are able to place before the . Be | | | i ps) ee reel teel [a connected with the soil pipe with a metal = coupling and will always remain as you setit. Why is it any more sanitary than any other? Because the joint is made without the use of putty or other soluble substance and we can guarantee it to be gas and water-tight and will remain so permanently. Our method of connect- ing our closet is as follows: A metal | base is soldered to end of lead soil pipe, the top of this base is turned perfectly level, the base of bowl is ground to a surface parallel with top of base, a thin metallic gasket is placed between the two, and the two are firmly clamped together with circular f clamps forming a joint that is absolutely tight and ‘indestructible. Leading architects and sanitarians specify | and endorse this as the only joint that will remain tight under all conditions. We have closets fitted with this coupling suitable tor tenement and factory use as well as for the finest residence. Write for illustrated circular. Goods sold to the trade only.
