Strict watch is kept to see that no keys get into the hands of unauthorized parties. Figure 1 — Cross section of ShMrlok showing lamp locked in place. Note the screw, deeply recessed in ' the condensite hushing. P&S qhMrlok is a device sold already attached to P&S sockets and receptacles, whereby the theft of the lamp is absolutely prevented. The Price—Throughout this catalog we have indicated the devices sold by us with the ghvrlok . attachment, together with price, schedule and standard package. The Illustrations—The accompanying illustrations show how the theft of the lamp is prevented. A small set screw with a triangular head and pointed end is introduced into the base of the lamp by means of a special key. When this set screw is placed in position, it is impossible to remove it without the use of this special key. The head of the set screw is recessed a considerable distance down into the condensite bushing, so it cannot be reached with tools. The key required is of peculiar shape, and keys of various descrip¬ tions already on the market will not fit. The ‘nhxirlok ; g no t an experiment, but is a proved success of which hundreds of thousands are in daily use. The Socket that Locks ITS USES AND SAVING The prime object of the ghvrlok _ socket is to prevent the theft of the lamp. This it will do wherever used, and finds a wide range of use in Hotels, Apartments, Fac¬ tories, Colleges, Public Institutions, Office Buildings, Mines, Packing Houses, Warehouses, Railroads, Steamboats, etc. In addition to the prevention of theft, it also accomplishes many other purposes of which the following are a few examples. Hotels Prevents guests from installing high wattage lamps, heating appli¬ ances, etc., which tend to overload the circuits and cause trouble. Prevents the guests using electric flatirons without permission of the proprietor. Factories Insures that lamps over fire exits and dark stairways will not be removed. Prevents bickering as to “Who took my lamp?”—ever hear that phrase? Prevents employes from trading your lamps across a convenient bar for a drink. Public Buildings A careful account on one of the County Buildings in the State of Illinois showed that three thousand 60-watt Tungsten lamps were stolen in four years. The nh\i rlok stops this loss. Damage Suits Damage suits on account of falls down dark stairways will be reduced, if the lamps are locked in place. Mines As a rule, the lamps are within easy reach, and some workmen remove lamps from the sockets and trade them across a bar for a drink To prevent this, some mines increase their voltage from 110 to 220, so that the lamps are of little use to the saloon. Two hundred and twenty volts in damp places is sometimes dangerous. The ‘n'h.Mrlok permits the use of 110 volts and ahsolutelv nrevents the theft of lamps. P & S 43.110 'IhMrlok and P & S .540 ^hvrlok sockets, shown on page 60, are especially adapted for use in Mines, Packing Houses, and damp places. Street Cars and Steamboats The lamps in moving vehicles of all kinds are subject to heavy vibra¬ tion, which sometimes results in the lamps working loose. The 'nhvrlok will safeguard aeainst this, as well as aeainst theft. Shade Holders Anv of the Fufib or Passmour stvle Shxirlok sockets can be supplied with a shade holder rigidly attached, as per illustration on page 4. The advance in price for sockets with shade holder attached is shown on page 31. 3 What to use When a Shade Holder is desired in connection with P&S SOCKETS Take a pair of tinsmith’s shears or ordinary side-cutting pliers and snip off the two upper corners of the “Hubbell” Shade Holder Ring, as per cut: By doing this you will clear the Shurlok without losing the purchase power of the ring. Our Best Suggestion Here it is: * —fiKMrlok r The Shade Holder is spun on and the Shurlok put on afterwards, making a perfectly rigid device. And it's a dandy. In outward appearance it resembles P & S 10, but it contains a complete, double break, pull mechanism. No longer necessary to use on outlet boxes, a pull receptacle really intended as a wall receptacle. P & S 428 is a rugged, well designed, well built pull receptacle, for use with outlet boxes only. It may be used on 3H-inch or 4-inch boxes. Packed one in a paper carton, each carton containing the screws to fasten to outlet boxes. Each receptacle is supplied with 6 inches of chain to which is attached 10 feet of black inen cord, complete with ball. If you have occasion to take advantage of the interchangeable feature in order to fill a rush order, it can readily be done. For example, let us suppose you have in stock a quantity of P & S 61217 and a quantity of P & S 435. You may get an order for a quantity of P & S 60217 and not have any of them in stock. By changing the caps from P & S 61217 to P & S 435 and from P & S 435 to P & S 61217, you will have the P & S 60217 keyless sockets required to fill the order. The sockets left in stock will be P & S 434 key sockets. There is a demand in some cities for sign receptacles with further protection. We will supply to order any of the sign receptacles in Schedule “C” with terminal contact plates made of copper, and with all exposed screws copper plated, at an advance of 5 cents each, list. Punches We have never found it practical to supply a standard punch for the use of sign manu¬ facturers to punch out the holes. There is such a wide variation of methods in use by sign manufacturers, that it appears to be the custom for them to have these punches made in their own city. We, however, will be very glad to supply any sign manufacturer with punches, made to his specifications and drawings, at a cost which will be as reasonable as possible. Specifications on Ready Wired Material P & S ready wired decorative sockets and receptacles shown on pages 53 to 58 are constructed in the following way: The wire is permanently attached to the socket or to the receptacle by mechanical means, and then soldered, so that a perfect electrical connection is insured between the wire and the socket or receptacle. The cap is then put in place, and a weatherproof compound poured through the hole in the cap, covering all the contacts and exposed metal, as well as filling up all the space inside the cap. This compound is flush with the top of the cap, making the installation absolutely waterproof and weatherproof. These goods are ordinarily shipped In barrels, for which no additional charge is made, but if specified on the order, they can be shipped packed on reels, for which there will be an extra charge to cover the cost of the reels. 52 P & S SIGN RECEPTACLES P & S Ready Wired Porcelain Sign Receptacles National Code Standard P & S 6X961) P & S Ready Wired Sign Receptacles are designed for use where signs or border lights are being constructed in considerable quantities, where lights are to be placed at equal distances apart.
