These Paints are the results of careful experiments made during a series of years, and are combined on different principles from any other Liquid Paints in the market. They have been found on trial, to withstand the severest tests of climatic changes, salt water atmosphere, and other trying exposures where the best white lead has failed, and we now offer them as strictly reliable and first-class paints, second to none in purity, richness and permanency of color, beauty of finish, durability and all characteris- tics which are requisite to form a perfect protective covering. They are prepared ready for the brush, but may be thinned if desired, the same as any oil paints. They contain an indestructible element not posessed by any other paint, in combination with an ingredient which strengthens or toughens the linseed oil, and renders it more opaque; consequently, less coloring mat- ter is required to produce the desired covering “body” in which these paints excel all others. It is perhaps needless to add, the wearing properties of all paints inhere in the oily body, and not in the pigments. The Asbestos Paints are especially valuable for Factories, Railroad Buildings, Iron Works, etc., and will be found more economical than any others. They are also the most desirable paints in the market for Villas, Cottages, Outbuildings, etc. We do not intend to compete in price with the cheap paints with which the market is flooded, nor can we compete with “chemical” or other paints which are composed largely of water and other inexpensive ingredi- ents. We use the best pure linseed oil and colors in combination with the materials nbuve referred to, which add an elastic quality never before at- tained in any paint or coating, and which prevent our paints from cracking or scaling. No water, alkalies, lime, or other deleterious substances are used in these paints, and when it becomes generally understood that paints which contain water do not form a proper protective coating unless more than the usual number of coats are applied — owing to the fact that the water, after having served to spread such paints, quickly evaporates, leaving only about half the body which is supposed to have been obtained — it will be readily perceived that, even if as good in other respects, the “water paints” at one-half our prices would still be more expensive, owing to the ad- ditional cost of package, transportation, loss' by evaporation or freezing, and extra labor required in applying two coats, where one coat of undiluted paint would produce, to say the least, an equally good result. This explanation lias seemed necessary to enable us to place ourselves fairly before the public in the matter of prices, which we claim to be as low as those of any other manufacturer in the country — quality considered. Much has been written and published by numerous manufacturers of Paints, relative to harmonizing colors, how, when and where to use, etc. c] We presume our customers will know their own wants, but we will cheerfully give all needful information about paints and colors generally, quantities and shades necessary or desirable for special purposes, etc., which information is based upon the experience of one of the best practical house painters in this country. Special instructions which will enable any one to produce the best results, will be furnished upon application. JggPWe would call particular attention to the superior “covering” properties of the Asbestos Paints; two coats of which will form a perfect covering and glossy finish on weather-beaten boards, or other surfaces which require three or four coats of ordinary paint. One gallon will cover from i So to 200 square feet, two coats. Many paints are called fire-proof, with reference no doubt, to the pigments and not the oils with which they are combined; the Asbestos Paints are not offered as being strictly fire-proof, but they will be found a protection against this element superior to any other after they become thoroughly dry. It may be well to mention that our paints are manufactured under the supervision of a practical paint maker of more than twenty years experience, and who was for many years the superintendent of one of the most extensive paint and color works in the United States. Our facilities for procuring materials and for producing paints of the best quality in any desired quantities, at the lowest possible cost, are unexcelled by those of any other manufacturer, and no pains or expense will be spared which will tend to insure their use as the Standard Paints for Structural Purposes. - 4 so ir inns u'liiiiLDiRi As comparatively but few shades are really required for the tasteful decoration of the various classes of buildings, and as at least ninety percent, of such work cun be satisfactorily done with the standard shades herein shown, the difficulty and confusion so frequently arising in the selection of the desired colors from among fifty or one hundred samples, and the necessity of keeping a large amount of " dead stock ” are entirely obviated. We will manufacture any desired shade to order, and would call particular attention to our “Asbestos White” for outside or inside work, which we guarantee to be superior to the best white lead and oil. We also manufacture Asbestos Fire Proof Paint in light shades, which is entirely different from any coating heretofore produced. It forms an inexpensive and effective protection for Factories, Bridges, Boiler-rooms, and other wooden structures in danger of ignition from sparks, cinders, or flames. It is also an economical and desirable substitute for white lead, for preserving the class of Outbuildings, Fences, etc. which are usually left unpainted. Price, 75 cents per gallon, in barrels.
