A GUIDE TO EVANGELICAL WORK IN ITALY. 1883 , FLORENCE CLAUDIAN 3? R ID S S Yia JVlaffia, 33. 1833 . This Church, which has been preserved by God in the Waldensian Valleys of Piedmont during many persecutions, commenced the work of evangelisation as soon as liberty was granted by King Carlo Alberto (17th February 1848). At that time it had only 18 ordained ministers; it has now 72, who are entitled to sit, along with an elder from each of the parishes in the Valleys, in the annual Synod, which com¬ mences on the first Monday of September. To this Assembly the Table , the Committee of Evangelisation , the Hospital Com¬ mittee , and the Council of the Theological School give an account of their proceedings, and the members of these Committees for the following year are elected. According to the new programme adopted by the Synod in 1880, the course consists of five years’ study of the subjects laid down in the government programme for Gym nasiums, and three years’ of those prescribed for Lyceums.
