Our floors afford perfect drainage, all fluids and refuse being carried to sewer directly and rapidly. The slats are conveniently raised while the contents of pan are easily flushed with a hose or bucket of water, or we can arrange our floors for a flushing pipe at head of pan so that all pans in the stable can be flushed at the same time by simply turning on the water. The hard maple slats can be reversed when they become worn. This S3'Stem of drainage does away with gutter in rear of stall, and the bed¬ ding that is saved by the use of our floors is alone an important feature to be considered. Our floors throughout are extra substantially constructed ana not to be compared with the cheaper ones on the market of light construction, which quickly wear out. SMITH WIRE AND IRON WORKS, CHICAGO 31 BOYLE’S STEEL STANCHIONS The Boyle Steel Stanchion is made of two pieces of angle steel, one and one quarter inches wide, with the ends bent at the top and bottom to form the yoke, which is 45 inches long inside. The lower ends are fastened together by two malleable iron castings riveted ta the steel, forming a hinge joint. At the top, the stanchion is fastened by our patent spring catch, formed of malleable castings riveted securely to the steel. One six inch chain is riveted to the top and one to the bottom of the stanchion. Two pieces of rounded, hard wood, are screwed to the steel sides, to prevent chafing of cow’s neck. These strips being made in different thick¬ nesses, may be changed and the stanchion used for any size cattle, from a small calf up to the largest bull. The regular No. 1 and No. 2 styles are made with 7 inch neck space, and are so shipped unless otherwise specified. For small cows or calves, stanchions with neck space any size from 5 to 7 inches can be furnished, without extra charge, by attaching the proper size wood linings. Price List Style No. 1—-weight 15 pounds—regular size for dairy stock. Jerseys, Geurnseys, etc., ea. $3.00 Style No. 2—weight 20 pounds—made of heavier and stiffer material. Will hold all kinds of cows, steers and heavy beef stock, each.. 3.50 Style No. 3--for bulls, extra heavy, 8 to 10 inch neck space, made to order, each . 4.00 Linings for any neck space with screws to be attached at the barn, 25 cents per pair. HINGE LATCH WITH THUMB POST The Latch, the keystone of a Stanch¬ ion’s usefulness is, in the Boyle Stanchion very small and very simple, but at the same time exceptionally strong and easy to operate. It consists of two malleable castings riveted to the steel, and held together by a spring loop. This loop has no projecting edges, and cannot be opened by accident. The new de¬ vice, the Thumbpost makes it easy to open from front or rear, with either hand or with glove or mitten. The Hinge consists of two malleable cast¬ ings riveted securely to the steel frame at their left end. To their right end the mov¬ able arms bolted, forming the hinge proper. As may be seen in the cut, this arm cannot drop clear down, but strikes the hinge cast¬ ing when partly open, and is held at about the right distance for the cow to enter. 32 F. P. SMITH WIRE AND IRON WORKS, CHICAGO IRON COW STALL PARTITIONS Our Iron Cow Stall Partitions are made entirely of metal, making them sanitary and a vast improvement over the old style wooden partitions. All material in their construction is of the bestgfrade, very heavy, and the workman¬ ship throughout is of the highest quality, making a fixture that is practically indestructible. They are very practical on account of their giving plenty of ventilation between the animals and at the same time keeping them separated. One of the main features is the swinging arrangement. Each partition is hinged to the iron post and swings open, so that, starting at one end, the animals can be quickly turned out from the side instead of backing them out, saving considerable time and trouble. The Front Swinging Panel is made adjustable to accommodate different size cows.
