HIS subject should receive the attention of every man who is in any way interested in the health and conve- nience of the residents of this large city. The water and drainage that has heretofore been allowed ‘| to pass from factories, dye-houses, slaughter-houses, brew- || eries, refineries, dwellings, &c., over the pavements, and into the streets, (causing in the summer season unpleasant || and unhealthy odors, and during the winter freezing over ; the whole surface of our streets, making them almost im- || passable), should all pass through pipe underground into || the common sewers. This can be done without much ex- | pense by using the Vitrified Terra-Cotta Drain and Sewer || Pipe, which costs but about one-third that of iron, or any | other material, bringing it within the reach of every one. | Our brand of pipe is acknowledged by architects, builders, | contractors, plumbers and others, to be the best material, 2 the hardest burned, the best glazed, of any in this market, They are made in 8 feet sections, and from 2 inches to 18 inches bore. ee Ns Nar he ER LS SG NS LT Sie 10 Link & BLACK, Our facilities are such that we can complete large orders without delay. We desire to call attention to the weight of our Pipe, compared with that of other works, being lighter than any other made in this city; the freight on it being much less than on any Pipe made heretofore, a considerable item will be saved by those purchasing our Pipe who reside out of the — city. (See page 11 for weight of Pipe.) The attention of property owners is ‘directed to the ordi- nances passed by Councils during the years 1867 and 1868,’ providing for a more efficient mode of drainage than that of running refuse water over the surface, and which does away with the old-fashioned cess-pools, which are certainly a very unpleasant nuisance, and also the accumulation of ice on the sidewalks in winter from overflowing gutters. It now remains for the owners of real estate to carry out the provisions of these ordinances, to make this a city second to none in the world for cleanliness, and the provisions made for the health and convenience of its inhabitants. We have no fear in referring to any persons who now have their property drained with Vitrified Sewer Pipe, as we know that not one of them would be without this great convenience for many times the first cost, showing conclu- sively that this system of drainage is worthy the attention of every one. t | PRICE LIST OF TERRA-COTTA SEWER PIPE, . . HEN Terra-Cotta Chimney Tops were first manu- factured in this country, they were a drug in the ° market, being considered an experiment only, and the people had become so wedded to the great unsightly brick chimneys, that it was a long time before they could be introduced; but there is a time for everything, and the time for the Terra-Cotta Chimney Top came at last. Old brick chimneys that had become ragged and dilapi- dated from the effects of the Gas and Weather, were in many instances torn down and replaced by the light and tasty ornamental top. On almost all the cottages and residences erected during the past few years in our beautiful villages, and in the sub- erbs of our cities, will be seen the Terra-Cotta Chimney Top, which makes a neat and beautiful finish to any style of building. Placed in this manner on Brick Chimneys, make a very ‘beautiful finish to any style of Cottage or Dwelling. O ME RS And the Trade in General, _—_—_—— The production of Terra-Cotta Ware has grown to be one of the great manufacturing interests of this country, requiring millions of dollars of capital, and employing thousands of skilled workmen. The immense increase of this industry during the past five years has naturally pro- duced a necessity for manufacturing a better class of goods than was made when Terra-Cotta drain and sewer pipe, chimney tops, chimney flues, garden and hanging vases, statuary, pedestals, flower-pots, &c., was thought or known but little of in the United States. We can point with pride to the fact that we have kept pace with all the improvements in this branch of business, and to-day the Philadelphia Terra-Cotta Works challenges comparison with any other factory in the country, both as regards quality, style, or finish, and capacity for turning | out large quantities of the above mentioned goods.
