The following is a general description which shall be supplemented by detailed specifications covering any elevator under consideration. The MACHINES have large rope wheels, keyed to steel shafts which revolve on steel anti-friction ROLLEK BEARINGS. The spur wheels are cast from cut patterns, of extra strength to insure durability and the cable wheels are double heavy and spoke ribbed for the same purpose. The main shafts are of turned steel of large diameter so as to resist the torsional strain to which they are subjected. These shafts rest on self-oiling bearings. The brake is of the self-holding type, consisting of a steel band com- pressing on asmooth, flat surface around the outside of the large rope-wheel. It is released or applied by one line from any floor or off the car and will securely sustain a full load at any point. The machines rest on Yellow Pine Framework, the safest and surest support; no possibility of hidden flaws so common to cast iron. THE SIDE POST CAR is made of the best hard ash with all requisite iron braces and angles to secure strength and rigidity; it is equipped with a SAFETY ATTACHMENT that is sure in action and will lock the car to the guides the instant the cable breaks, before it gains any headway in descent. The car is neat in design and finished to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. These elevators are balanced by weights made in sections so the desired adjustment may be secured, or altered if need be at any time. It is customary to have sufficient weight to cause the car to rise when empty and we include this amount in our prices. THE CABLES are made of Swedish Iron and will sustain a load IVE TIMES the rated capacity of the elevator. It will be seen that with an elevator having a cable of this strength and having the protection of a positive Safety Catch on the car, the risk of accident is reduced to a minimum. The illustration of the Side Post Elevator shows the operating rope in — the front, but it may be placed on ANY SIDE of the shaftway, best suited to the location. fr AVER' COLU HAND ELEVATORS THE BACK GUIDE ELEVATOR is the same in general construction as the Side Post, with steel shafts, Anti-Friction Roller Bearings, self-holding brake, etc., but it is guided on wrought iron track against the wall and is suitable for locations where posts can not be used on the sides. The car having no Safety Attachment, we compensate for the omission by using TWO HOISTING CABLES instead of one, making a combined breaking strain TEN TIMES greater than the rated capacity of the elevator. This car has the advantage of being accessible from three sides. THE CARRIAGE ELEVATOR follows the same general construction as the Side Post. Elevator, with steel shafts, Anti-Friction Roller Bearings, Self-holding brake, etc. The car, which may be any size, is constructed of good lumber throughout and suspended by four cables, one at each corner. These cables wind on iron drums that are extra strong and heavy and which have MACHINE CUT GROOVES to insure a smooth track for the cable and to prolong their length of service. AUTOMATIC HATCH DOORS These doors (see illustration page 14) are a valuable addition to any elevator, greatly lessening the risk of accident or spreading of fire from one floor to another, and preventing draft through the hatchway, as the doors are always closed when platform is not at landing. They are strong and durable, easily adjusted, and can be used in connection with any size or style of car. They are not included in our shipment unless specially ordered. It follows the same general principles that are in our regular hand elevators (see pages 9 and 11), which have been tried for years and proved so satisfac- tory, but it is of finer make and finish, greater care being given to the details, to eliminate all noise and secure strictly high-grade results. The Gears are MACHINE CUT from blanks, ALL SHAFTS revolve on ANTI-FRICTION ROLLER BEARINGS and the brake is cushioned to render it NOISELESS., The car is of artistic design, the sides and back have hard wood panel-work four feet high and the upper parts are enclosed with bronzed grille work. It is also covered overhead. It is suspended by TWO CABLES and in addition has the SAFETY DEVICE to lock it to the guide posts in the remote event of both cables breaking. The counterweight is adjust- ed to balance one passenger, so that a very little exertion moves it in either direction. PRICE Will furnish this elevator for one story travel, with a car about 3 feet wide by 4 feet deep (which will receive a rolling chair) forthe sum of $200.00 This price covering all parts shceduled under Side Post Elevator, on page 9. There will be an extra charge of $8.00 for each additional story. Nore.—Foregoing is for an elevator of very fine work, surrounded with ex- treme safety precautions and for per- manent service : but if desirable to have an elevator for temporary or only occa- sional service and it is so situated that a second quality of finish would be acceptable and some of the safety pre- cautions omitted, the cost can be con- siderably reduced, still retaining an efficient lift. 12 Carriage or Warehouse Elevator Described on page 7 Machine .. . It is driven by two belts, one for hoisting and one for lowering; these belts are shifted and the brake applied by a single action of the operating cable from any floor, the car stops automatically at the terminals and the machine stops automatically if the car is blocked in its descent. THE WORM AND WORM WHEEL are enclosed in an oil tight case which protects them from dust and grit, and insures a perfect lubrication of the vitals of the machine. They are cut from blanks and of a pattern to give a Maximum wearing surface, while consuming a minimum of power. It has been the practice to run the loose pulleys directly on the driving shaft and with these pulleys revolving at a high rate of speed, it has been found impossible to lubricate them to prevent the shaft from wearing and requiring frequent renewals, a very expensive operation, but on this elevator the pulleys revolve on a patent removable self-oiling sleeve, so there is no wear whatever on the shaft which will be as good after years of service as when new. AUTOMATIC BAND BRAKE is amply powerful to sustain a full load and is noisless and instantaneous in action, easy on the machine, operating without jar or vibration, and arranged to take up the wear automatically. THE AUTOMATIC STOP placed on the drum shaft stops the car at the top and bottom floors and can be easily adjusted. It is always reliable and acts automatically or independently of the operator on operating cable. THE SLACK CABLE STOP shuts off the machine and prevents the eable from slacking or getting out of place on the drum, should the car be obstructed in its descent and forms a safety feature of great value. THE BELT SHIFTER is free from the complications of links or gears and is arranged that while either of the belts is being shifted to the tight pulley the other remains undisturbed. THE CAR is suspended by two hoist cables which wind ona drum accurately turned and spirally grooved in lathe, preventing the cable from wearing and greatly increasing durability of same. The entire elevator is of the very best workmanship and material, free from cheap devices and guaranteed to be a strictly first class machine down to the last detail.
