WHAT IS KARBOLITH? ARBOLITH is a composition of chemicals, some of which are of a fibrous and cellular nature; these furnish the conditions that produce a slightly elastic but hard and tough body. The cement bond employed is the very best known to science and unites the several ingredients into one solid body and at the same time produces a perfect bond with the base to which it is applied, whether that base be of concrete, wood, iron or stone. The large percentage of magnesium compounds used in this composition makes Karbolith ABSOLUTELY FIRE-PROOF;; the action upon it of intense heat, even in the presence of carbonic acid and steam, affects only the surface and that to but a slight degree. USES FOR KARBOLITH There are few places in modern buildings where Karbolith cannot be advantageously employed. It is especially adapted for Bath Rooms Banks Libraries Stores Billiard Rooms Cafés Pantries Restaurants Dining Rooms Office Buildings Kitchens Lobbies Churches Halls Hospitals Garages Theatres Factories Power Plants, etc., etc. For covering old or new WOOD FLOORS Karbolith has no equal as they ARE thereby RENDERED FIRE-PROOF and given surfaces over which walking is noise- less and easy. COLORS OF KARBOLITH FLOORING ARIOUS colors and shades are possible either in solid colors or in combinations. Designs according to taste are at the option of the artist and architect. HOW KARBOLITH WEARS HE numerous monolithic, marble, tile, terraza, and other stone and stone compounds used for flooring are so hard that ordinary wear produces an abrasion that grinds off the surface, and the resultant fine grist or dust aids in the further destruction of the floor. ‘This dust is injurious to lungs and machinery. Karbolith withstands this abrasion better than any other material, being preserved through its elasticity. It is but slightly affected by acids, alkalies or other corrosive materials. Stains of ink, blood, etc., in almost all instances, wash out without trouble. In case of accident, due to settling of buildings, causing cracks, these can be easily remedied without tearing up the whole floor, or even by resurfacing, as the material is laid in a plastic form; such repairs may be done at a nominal cost, making the work the same as new. Karbolith is unaffected by changes of temperature as it is a non-conductor of heat and cold. ‘There is no contraction or expansion produced by varying atmospheric conditions, yet its elasticity allows it to adapt itself to the expansion or contraction of any base upon which it may be bound, without injury to its surface. It is a deadener of sound, similar to rubber flooring, and a non-conductor of electricity. A SANITARY FLOORING ARBOLITH is the most sanitary flooring manufactured. It is easily kept clean as there are no crevices or cracks for decaying animal or vegetable matter to accumu- late or obtain entrance. The method of laying and finishing the flooring hermetic- ally seals the entire surface. When laid with our SANITARY BASE *t can be washed with cold or hot water and disinfectants, or sprayed with a hose, as there are no cracks or joints, the base and flooring when completed serving as a single piece. The perfectly smooth floor leaves no chance for the accumulation of dust, dirt or filth. INSTALLATION ARBOLITH has been laid at all times of the year and in all sorts of locations. It kK can be used on wood, stone, concrete, asphalt, cement and metals. It has been subjected to heavy traffic within twenty-four hours from the time of installing and satisfactory results attained. It is laid in a plastic state, similar to cement, plaster or mortar, and hardens quickly. Being comparatively light in weight it can be used on upper, weak or unsupported structures where heavier material would be prohibitive. The ordinary thickness of Karbolith used is one-half inch, although it can be made any depth required. At the ordinary thickness it weighs, when in place completed, something over three pounds to the square foot. THE SPECIAL REQUIREMENT AS TO THE BASE UPON WHICH fio) LO BE INSTALLED IS PERFECT RIGIDITY. Prices and estimates and any needed information on flooring will be furnished on application to any of our agents, who will be found in all of the large cities, or to the manufacturers. WE GUARANTEE KARBOLITH FLOORING HE AMERICAN MASON SAFETY TREAD CO. will guarantee all Kar- bolith flooring which it installs, provided the conditions of the base upon which it is to be laid are in strict accordance with specifications.
