yg EVERLASTING SLAB MAT ERI APPLIED TO THE OSPITAL the home of scientific cleanlin P b Zi ft | Pee. F (35 a a —s Vitrolite slabs in varying sizes are‘‘set’’ over any wall surfacing by means of a patented elastic cement that clings to the wall. This cement adjusts itself to settling, shrinkage or expansion, and absorbs shocks. ITROLITE is a material fire-fused from those minerals that form nature’s hardest rock. It is manufactured in pure white, jet black, and colors, in slabs ranging in size up- wards to 40x 84, and in thickness from 7% to 1 inch. These slabs are used for wall finishing and industrial material, and for tops of tables and other fixtures. Vitrolite appeals to every one because of its obvious cleanliness. Its perfectly smooth surtace is impossible to stain even with inorganic acids. There is nothing about it to hold odors or breed bacteria. It is easy to clean and keep clean; in fact, the stroke of a damp cloth is all that 1s ever necessary. Unlike other materials used for structural surfacing, it will always remain in its perfect condition, never crazing or discoloring. It is fireproof, and although as hard as flint, will not crack if quickly heated or chilled. The Vitrolite Company organized sales and installation organizations all over the world. These agencies are comprised of factory-trained work- men who understand the material and handle it without waste or experi- ment. Each organization has its own shop where Vitrolite is cut and ground to fit. The whole country is within a short distance of some one such construction company and will be quickly and expertly served by it. TODAY’S HOSPITALS MUST BE BEAUTIFUL —light and clean HE new building about to be erected must be constructed with those points in mind—the old ones must be “put in order”’ or meet with disfavor. For the medical pro- fession knows, now, the importance of sani- tation, the relation of cheerful surroundings to sickness and convalescence, and the bene- fits of sunlight. Health—and there all things are expected to be scientifically correct. Hospitals are Temples of There is very little need to call these facts to the attention of those interested in hos- pital management or construction. Such is not the mission of this booklet. Our purposes, to come to the point, to disclose the fact that abiding beauty, cleanliness and light are now easily, quickly and inexpensively available to every hospital—old or new. We mean, to be explicit, that dark corridors can be made bright and cheerful, operating rooms light [ PAGE THREE ] MSO Os, JOA Ove Page Baths anywhere should look clean and be clean. These facts are important—but vastly more important is the fact that with them may be secured surface sanitation that satisfies the most exacting demands of sanitary science. It is all due to the development of Vitro- lite. Vitrolite is now being used in hospitals the world over. The finest hospitals being built have Vitrolite specified. Old hospitals everywhere are being rejuvenated with Vit- rolite. Physicians—especially surgeons — emphatically endorse its use. Architects recognize it as the ideal medium for hospital interiors. In hospitals Vitrolite is the ideal wall paneling for the following reasons :— 1. Its hard, non-absorbent surface defies moisture, dirt, germ and acid—does not stain. 2. Itsglistening whiteness distributes light, brightening every nook and corner. 3. Being made in large slabs, the number [ PAGE FouR ] These baths, walled and parti- VAL Om & $5 Wy XE 2 xt 3 ayy Where else should one expect to find more sanitary conditions prevailing than in a sterilizing room? Vit- rolite is easily set in this cement, and easily removed in case re-modeling or additions are contemplated. The mere stroke of a damp cloth cleanses Vitrolite. [ PAGE SEVEN ] Walls finished in white Vitrolite, table tops to match. The acme of cleanliness bringing also to any hospital dining room a note of cheerful brightness that contributes substantially to the morals of the hospital force. Vitrolite is, as has been stated, very widely used in hospitals—and for a variety of pur- poses. In general, however, it is preferred for operating rooms, corridors, toilets and baths, dining rooms and kitchens, and for tables, counters and shelves throughout the build- ing. In the case of new hospitals it is gen- erally specified by the architect—but trustees or directors reading this pamphlet should make sure that the architect planning their hospital is familiar with Vitrolite. The best plan is either to give him this booklet or write us to send him a copy. The use of Vitrolite in corridors needs no explanation. Its broad, glistening white sur- faces are generous with sunlight, giving it to nooks and corners that would otherwise be dark and cheerless. In operating rooms the overwhelming preference for Vitrolite is, of course, based chiefly on its sanitary merits. Vitrolite paneled, the entire wall is capable of quick and complete disinfection. Vitrolite is chosen for dining rooms and kitchens in hospitals for the same reasons that have put it in the thousands and [PAGE ELG Hae] The moment one enters this hospital, sparkling white walls of Vitrolite proclaim its scrupulous cleanliness and assure one of good hospital methods. thousands of cleanly restaurants the world over. Its snowy white speaks cleanliness; that cleanliness is an actual fact, and it re- quires no arduous scrubbing or other wash- ing to maintain it. Even the grease and smoke and fumes of kitchens do not harm it; the mere stroke of a damp cloth keeps it always white and shining. The qualities described above account, likewise, for the extensive use of Vitrolite tables throughout the hospitals, in dining rooms and in kitchens; and in the latter Vitrolite counters for tray service are also popular. Vitrolite shelves are desirable in practically every part of the hospital. It may now be readily understood that there is no material so well adapted to bath- rooms and toilets as is Vitrolite. In fact, one of its greatest uses is for toilet partitions. In this connection, it may not be amiss to mention our patented “‘screwless-boltless”’ system for supporting toilet partitions. This system is, in itself, a strong commendation of the use of Vitrolite. We should be glad to send detailed drawings and complete infor- mation on request. rl [ PAGE NINE ] eK yA) wile) 3 LORS ONS ORAIOHR IN ee COOK “™ ~ Fear 3 4S A surgeon’s office with white Vitrolite walls—obviously the laboratory of one who observes the strictest rules of sanita- tion. Such a silent message commends occupant and assures the patient. Heretofore we have spoken only of “pure white” Vitrolite. It should also be known that Vitrolite is, when desired, embellished with color designs. Thus operating-room san- itation may be brought to ward and private room without loss of decorative qualities. Vitrolite is also made in glistening black, which is immensely popular for some uses. We cannot conclude without at least mention of the fact that Vitrolite is in wide and ever-increasing use in the offices of physi- cians, dentists and oculists, everywhere. We want you to know Vitrolite. Herein we have attempted to tell you something of its nature, its advantages and its uses. But now we should like to have you send for a sample and learn how Vitrolite can be installed in your hospital or office. We have organized specially trained construction companies in the principal cities of the world; fully equipped with stock and machinery to under- take contracts for Vitrolite of any size in either new or old buildings. A word from you to our headquarters will bring a practical man to estimate your re- quirements. The Vitrolite Company supply complete tables, topped with Vitrolite. These are widely used in all dining rooms of many hospitals and are in harmony with the most sanitary surroundings. Vitrolite tables in nurses’ dining rooms, in addition to providing a pleasant, cheerful eating place and facilitating cleanliness up- keep, havea fine effect upon the morale of the nursing force and inspire greater attention to cleanliness in all tasks. In hospital kitchens, Vitrolite tables are almost necessary ad- juncts to sanitary methods, and provide un- usually fine working surfaces for the mixing [. The smooth faced Vitrolite will not be scarred by knives or utensils, and may be quickly wiped clean after any use. Tops for dressers, night tables and stands in wards and private rooms are other useful hospital items of Vitrolite. Vitrolite shelves find a use in practically all parts of the hos- pital. They consist of a slab of-white or black Vitrolite with complete bracket fix- tures. Another interesting use of Vitrolite (in thinner slabs) is for tray bottoms.
