Messrs. The name “Victoria” was inherited from the building that formerly occupied this site—the Victoria Hotel, which, after an eventful history, was torn down in 1913 to make way for the present structure. The Victoria Building is owned by The 230 Fifth Avenue Corporation, which Company also did the erecting. Messrs. Schwartz and Gross are the architects. The lower three stories are faced throughout with a unique white matt glaze terra cotta which was developed by The New Jersey Terra Cotta Company especially for this building. All of the features of the upper five ornamental stories, including the main cornice, and all sills and lintels of the intervening plain stories, are also white matt glaze architectural terra cotta. Most of the ornamental features of the build- ing are shown in this Booklet by reproducing photographs of the original models, a method which affords an unusual opportunity to study the finer architectural detai!s at close range. : While the photographs taken at building have been reproduced with unusual care, they hardly do full justice to the quality of the erected work. For this reason architects and owners are respectfully imvited to examine this material at site of building, as a good example of architectural terra cotta, “well made, properly set, and carefully pointed.” Architects who desire to secure the same high quality of architectural terra cotta as furnished for the Victoria Building should specify “The New Jersey Terra Cotta Company.” For the same high quality in the same color and finish, architects should specify “New Jersey-Victoria.” A TM f MM TT MMMM I Ut i il AAA ngs — ws a aie, an \ a | Nt Sm Ne Si ee ee Se Sa Si > a = nokist Sa See since i li.
