Plans for a new house are scarcely considered complete without provision being made for them. In old houses the work is readily laid over original floors, taking the place of carpets. We manufacture all kinds of plain and ornamental flooring, from simple strips and squares to the most elaborate parquetry designs. Wealso make all thicknesses of ‘¢ tongue and groove”’ flooring. The flooring that can be laid with the greatest ease and economy is ye inch thick with square edge. This booklet shows the most popular and best designs in this thickness. These patterns can all be made 14, 56 or % inch thick as desired ; the fancy designs by gluing to a backing; the plain ones by using separate pieces of solid oak with tongue and groove on edges. The borders are made up in 12 foot lengths. The fancy fields are made up in convenient sized slabs for laying. The simple oak designs are composed of 11% or 2 inch slats assembled in squares, hexagons, etc., on canvas. This canvas is simply to hold together, in convenient form for handling, the carefully selected slats or short strips until the flooring is nailed down. The herringbone (No. 706) is supplied in separate pieces. The price of the simpler designs approximates that of a good carpet. If given attention the floor never wears out. House cleaning is made easy and there are never any heavy sweeping days where our hardwood flooring is installed. A fine hardwood floor gives an air of refinement and elegance to any residence, store or public building. We have agents in the large cities. Being experts in this line, they will do the work quicker and with less trouble to the purchaser than one who does not make a regular business of floor laying. Any good carpenter, however, can lay these floors by following our plans and instructions for laying and finishing. Send us a rough sketch of rooms with accurate measure- ments and we will give you exact estimate of cost of the flooring. When necessary, symmetrical corner pieces will be made for any border shown, as illustrated on page 2. PARQUETRY BORDERS 601. 3-INCH. OAK AND MAHOGANY OAK AND WALNUT 604. 4-INCH. OAK AND DARK OAK PARQUETRY DESIGN E own the white oak forests which are our source of supply, and operate our own saw-mills and lumber yards where the lumber is cut and seasoned. Having dry kilns at both our Western and Eastern factories we can give absolute assurance of thoroughly seasoned and perfectly dry flooring. The flooring is kept in heated stock rooms until the moment of shipment, so that it is always in perfect condition. The last point alone makes our flooring, of all kinds, vastly superior to the ordinary lumber yard variety, which has been exposed to damp air and has absorbed moisture while piled in unheated lumber sheds. Indiana quartered white oak is the basis of our work. We carry in addition many other domestic and imported woods ; these affording, in their natural, unstained beauty, almost every color except bright blue. We are anxious that any flooring bought from us may result in such a finished floor as to be an advertisement for us. We supply full directions for laying and finishing, but that is not enough. We would like to sell finishing materials for the work, such as we know to be the best, to insure perfect results. FINISHING MATERIAL Suitable brads or nails can generally be procured through the larger hardware stores. We have special kinds for the different thicknesses of material and can ship along with the flooring. Special dry-mixed filler in different shades is kept in stock, as well as coloring matter for the putty used for filling the brad- holes on the ye inch floors. “¢ Wood-Mosaic Finish’”’ is the result of our long experience in the flooring business and can be had in suitable sized packages The finest grades of pure white shellac can be used as a sub- stitute for ‘* Wood- Mosaic Finish.’’ A sufficiently high grade shellac is so difficult to procure in small quantities that we do not advise its use except by the advice of ‘our agents, who are experts. Our wax insures a fine glossy finish. The ease with which it can be renewed makes it the most economical and easily cared for of finishes. Our weighted polishing brushes are so constructed that the power used to push the brush is applied where it is most effective in getting a high polish on the waxed floor. = | ) ——=—J ———— SS fe oY ao heii ie — ——_— (aa ee x —— 5 = S25) hh | i I = _——— _—=== ——— = = = = = eee Waa WY ) | t 7) aie 1 ANIL iN i 17 ) \) } | | | 1 ) HE above is a plan of a floor laid with wood-carpet and finished off with a colored border-strip and corner No. 1017 to match. This makes a neat, inexpensive and durable floor, possessing every sanitary advantage of higher priced work. This flooring is composed of narrow strips of hardwood, of lengths to suit the layout of the room, glued on to a canvas backing in sheets twenty-four inches wide. Sheets of this width are the easiest to handle and to lay. Wood-carpet shipped in rolls is exposed to the air, while our sheets are packed so tightly together that exposure to dampness is reduced to a minimum. This method of packing also protects the edges of the strips from damage. For thirty years we have been manufacturing ornamental hardwood flooring. We are prepared to execute orders for special designs to conform to any scheme of decoration. COMBINATION A PLAN OF ROOM 20 X12 FEET HLYVW3AH BORDER No. 648. 8-INCH.
