TOWERS , _ State height of tower desired and whether height is to be ' measured to bottom or balcony line. W. E. CALDWELL CO., LOUISVILLE KY. LATTICED COLUMN TOWERS RNAS SENOS AS ANS gs ge ¥ LOI IOP OM ERASED: 30,000 Gallon Cypress Tank This is the heaviest and strongest tower built for flat bottom tanks. It is recommended where a first class riveted structure is wanted. It is made in multiples of 10 feet in height or any height desired and in capacities of 15.900 gallons and larger. For smaller capacities we recommend our Angle Oolumn Tower. This tower conforms with the best engineering practice and is practically identical with our Hemispherical Bottom Tower and is the only one on the market,.for flat bottom tanks, using the same construction as is used in the highest class of structural steel work such as Railroad Bridges, Skyscrapers, etc. The columns: are com- posed of two. channels thoroughly laced and riv- eted together and the struts of laced angles or channels. The rods have turnbuckles for adjust- ment with enlarged ends at the threads and con- nected to the columns by pins and clevises. This column has 6 to 7 rivets to the foot instead of 1 or 2 as in most other con- structions. Strut and col- umn connections are made with heavy gusset plates thoroughly riveted. A heavy I-Beam gril- lage at the top of the tower supports the tank, We usually furnish this tower with long leaf yellow pine timber foun- dation at top of tower when used with wood tanks though we _ rec- commend the steel I-beam foundation which is al- ways used with steel tanks. When desired we fur- nish the iron-work alone for these towers with a detailed plan and bill of material by which the customer may himself supply the timbers that form a support for the tank at top of tower. We build these Towers acceptable to any and all Insurance Companies. In asking for prices state what Insurance Requirements, if any, the outfit must comply with; the Kind of Tank (wood or steel); Capacity in gallons; Height of Tower and if we are to include Riser Piping and Frost Boxing for Riser Pipes and Erec- &O-foot Latticed Column Steel Tower tion in our estimate. ANGLE COLUMN TOWERS Where customers prefer a Tower with riveted or bolted sections, we supply the An- gle Column Tower herewith illustrated for Tanks of 15,000 to 22,000 gallons capacity and less, and our Latticed Column Tower il- lustrated on pages 30 and 31, for larger sizes. Unless otherwise speci- fied, we furnish the Towers with bolted sections, These Towers are alto- gether unlike the _ light, flimsy and fragile structures usually furnished under this name; they have enough weight of metal and bulk: of material to satisfy the eye that their strength is ade- quate, ‘In other words, they look: heavy and strong, and { an ‘examination of the de- sign and construction ac- cording to engineering standards, will make this assurance doubly sure. They not only have a suf- ficient factor of safety or re- serve strength to meet any excessive demands upon them when they are compar- atively new, but sufficient to do so after corrosion has taken place year after year, and anything less than this means a structure of defec- tive design and inadequate strength. As this heavy construc- tion allows for corrosion, it is not necessary to galvanize these towers. We build these Towers in multiple heights of ten feet, and for tanks of 1,000 gal- lons capacity and up. They are furnished with either a timber or steel I-Beam foundation for the support of the tank. This is provided with an extension and walkway with handrail- ing. All Towers have lad- ders extending to within ten feet of the ground, These Towers are acceptable to any and all Insurance Companies. It is constructed for Tanks from 1,000 to 40,000 gallons. The columns of these Towers are cut off square at the ends and these faced in a lathe to insure a true bearing against the internal flange in the heavy socket castings that make the joint connections, this flange also being faced off. These sockets are made on the proper angle to suit the batter of the Tower, and have a boss that is tapped to receive the extra long threaded ends of the round steel rods that are used for sway bracing. These rods are provided with drop forged turn- buckles to secure proper tension. The Tower is the simplest in design of any on the market, and the easiest to erect as the use of socket connections does away with all riveting and makes it unnecessary: to use skilled labor in putting it up. Any ordinary mechanic can erect the structure with com- mon labor. Practically no scaffolding is required as the sections are short and each is just like the others, and one section can be used from which to erect the next. A ginpole with ropes and blocks and wrenches are all the tools required. This Tower has been on the market for 20 years and is in use in every state and terri- tory in this country, and in Canada, Mexico, W. the West Indies, Central and South Ameri¢a s as well. It is endorsed and recommended by leading Architects and Engineers everywhere. On account of its round columns, this tower offers less resistance to the wind than any other, sheds water easier and holds paint bet- ter, and it is the most graceful and handsome tower on the market. The stability of these towers is attested by the fact that many have passed through the fiercest tropical storms, and even cyclones, without being budged a particle, and numerous letters to this effect are printed in our Testimonial Booklet which will be sent to any address on application. Let us send you our Handsome Embossed View Book with illustrations of about sixty of these structures furnished representative concerns and institutions. 30,000 Gallon Cypress Tank. 63 Foot Tubular Column Steel Tower. See Price List on Page 35. When desired, we furnish the iron work alone for these Towers with a detailed plan and bill material by which the customer may himself supply the timbers that form a support for the tank at top of Tower. It eliminates all mortises and tenons and brace seats which reduce the original strength of the structure and make places for moisture to soak in and cause the timber to rot out in a short time. If kept well painted this tower will outlast any all wood tower at least 50 per cent. We will furnish this tower complete or the ironwork only. Prices on application. 40 W. E. CALDWELL TANK HEATERS The use of a Tank Heater is by far the best method of sup- plying heat to a wood or steel tank to pre- vent freezing. They are intended to be used with ten pounds. steam pres- sure, but in cases where steam is not available a hot water S heater burning coal ali or gas can be used in connection with a larger size tank heater. The brass steam coil inside heats the water which rises through the heater pipe into the tank and is replaced by cold water from the riser pipe. This circulation prevents the riser from freezing. The Tank Heater is usually set in a pit under the tower or in the top floor when the tank rests on a building and is hung on the riser pipe.
