It is usually more satisfactory to arrange to swing the transom bar if possible. Fixtures are reversible and can be used on right or left-hand doors. The top of the door is pivoted to the hanger bar and an ordinary flush bolt with round pin which is lowered into a hole in the iron saddle serves as a bottom pivot. Care must be taken to locate the center of the flush bolt exactly below and in line with the pivot in the top fixture. When the front end of the door is disconnected from the hanger bar to swing doors open, the latch is hooked over the hold back bracket which prevents the hanger from sliding forward, as shown in the large illustration above. This forms a positively located top pivot and prevents the front end of door from dragging on the floor while both doors are being swung out of opening. The small illustration above shows the door latched to hanger bar for operating the sliding door. Furnished with apron attachment for wood or kalamein doors or plate attachment for metal doors, as shown on opposite page. A guide for the front end of door is regularly furnished, but the flush bolt is not included in a set of fixtures. Finish, flat black, regular; other finishes furnished on application. Doors are always closed when the car leaves the floor. The Ideal closer performs this work positively and easily, eliminates the objectionable noise and slamming of the doors. The long lever handle starts the doors easily. “(he spring cannot be over- wound; is extra long, insuring long life; acts positively to close the door, regardless of position of arms. Doors cannot be opened from corridor side, except with a key furnished for that purpose, if desired. Can be used in connection with any standard make of hanger; single, two-speed, three-speed doors, doors in pairs or combination swing-out. When used with combination swing-out doors, the arm may be detached at the Door Plate stud. All that is necessary is to lift handle up as shown in dotted lines ie iow ea paceslae The spring and checking mechanisms are separate, and can readily be regulated independent of each other to suit the varying conditions of the doors. Can be attached to the rear stile of the door, thus permitting the use of shorter arms. These short arms, together with the fact that the back arms are double, built in a box-like section, produces a very rigid fixture. The maximum projection of the closer from face of the door is 14 inches. Made right or left-hand; illustration above shows right hand. Finish, regular, dead black, polished brass handle. Other finishes can be furnished on application. Packed, wrapped, in box with screws. Weight, 12 pounds each. We furnish device to unlock from outside if desired. Nearly all troubles with door checks are caused by imperfect checking mechanism and use of improper mate- rials. In R-W checks all working parts used in the checking cylinder are made of steel drop forgings. The Spring — Broken springs — broken because wound up beyond safety limit — cause a great deal of trouble with door checks. It is impossible to over-wind the spring in the R-W Check. While the tension of the spring can be adjusted to suit conditions by the pawl and tooth-dog, the limited number of teeth on the tooth-dog makes over-winding impossible. The spring is mounted in the spring cups, which can be removed if desired without taking check off the door. The spring power is a unit in itself. Leak-Proof — On account of the original construction, the R-W Check is leak-proof. ‘The spindle stufing box is above the liquid level. Below the packing around the spindle there is an air chamber with a proper by-pass, preventing capillary attraction of the liquid along the spindle. The liquid, a non-freez- ing oil, in which the main working parts are immersed, has high lubricating qualities. It contains no alcohol. ‘There is an abundance of liquid in the check. Reversible Feature —'The R-W Check can be changed from right to left by simply swinging the arm from one side to the other, the pawl that engages the toothed dog being so placed as to engage on either side. The amount of friction when used on a right or left-hand door is precisely the same in either case. These features make the Richards-Wilcox the only truly reversible check on the market. _ General Features — The working parts are made of gray iron, malleable iron and steel drop forg- ing, machined to a perfect fit, and are interchangeable. _ No special wrenches or tools are required in assembling or winding up the spring. A screw driver is all that is necessary to take the check apart. The check can go together only the right way, making assembling mistakes impossible. They hold and con- trol the door perfectly. “here are no projections to mar the beauty of the door. The actual checking of the door is accomplished by a remarkably ingenious mechanism. ‘The con- trol is perfect, bringing the door to a gradual stop at the center. The door will stand open at right angles if desired. No catch or latch is required, all that is neces- sary is to push the door over the locking point where it is held automatically until released by pulling the door, when it will close in the usual manner. Will not stop in open position when in ordinary use. The spring is of the compression type, well-known for durability and reliability. All of the working parts are immersed in non-freezing checking oil, thereby keeping all parts well lubricated. The speed of the door at the closing point may be regulated by the use of a screw driver on the check- ing pin through the brass cover plate. A slight turn to the right or left will accomplish the required regulation of the closing action. The R-W hinges are regularly furnished with solid brass cover plates.
