It is the answer to the growing demand for a moderately priced perfect roofing tile. Time is the test of real worth. AMBI Roofing Tile long ago passed the trial and experimental period which ended when perfection was reached, with resultant universal popu- larity. AMBI Roofing Tile is the architect’s finishing touch, as it assures a range of beauty obtainable with no other roofing material. This catalog contains descriptions and specifications of the various types of AMBI Roofing Tile and methods of applying it. AMBI engineers and chemists have produced a scientifically designed product of sufficient strength without excessive weight, to which the various colors are applied in a manner whereby they become a permanent and integral part of the tile. AMBI Roofing Tile enhances the charm of any home or building, but aside from its artistic merit, its durability makes it the logical choice for the roof. The organization behind AMBI Roofing Tile is made up ot highly trained and efficient men, experts in their respective lines. The same fair and broad policy which has made the word **“AMBI” synonymous with highly developed products throughout the world is maintained. THE SEAL OF QUALITY VARIEGATED AMBI ROOFING TILE, HARMONIZING WITH THE SURROUNDINGS AMBI ROOFING TILE HAS WITHSTOOD THE TEST OF MANY YEARS ONCRETE roofing tile originated and was first used in Europe about eighty years ago. In the northern part of Germany the first and rather crude machines were used, and although the tiles at that time were much inferior to the present day product, those that still remain are evidence of the durability of concrete, which hardens with age. Through the importation of modern machines concrete roofing tiles have come into very general favor in this country. AMBI Roofing Tile is made of concrete and has been used for over twenty- five years on hundreds of thousands of houses in countries where the most exact- ing requirements for building and roofing material are enforced. A great deal of study has been devoted to its design and methods of laying it. Strength, beauty, durability and easy method of application are the results. This means that the pur- chaser of AMBI Roofing Tile obtains greater material value with less labor cost than can be had with any other type of roofing material. The registered trade mark “*AMBI”’, which is emblematic of high grade products throughout the world, is applied to each AMBI Roofing Tile produced at our factories. Only the best and most reliable colors are used in manufacturing AMBI Roofing Tile. We are thoroughly experienced in this work and specially select and mix colors so that they will permanently withstand the attacks of the most severe climatic conditions. Page Six THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE HOME IS THE ROOF HE roof is the most prominent factor in building construction. ‘he materials selected for it should form a protection against fire and uncertain weather con- ditions. Furthermore, the material should be attractive and of such nature as will eliminate the necessity for repairs or replacements. The cost should be commen- surate with the average type of construction. Therefore, the selection of roofing material is of vital importance to the prospective home owner, architect or builder. The building departments of the principal cities and towns throughout the United States are prohibiting the use of inflammable roofing materials, realizing that they are generally responsible for the rapid spread of many disastrous fires. Wood shingles are not fire-proof and being non-insulating are but slight pro- tection against climatic conditions. They also require frequent repairs and replace- ments; authorities state that asphalt and most composition roofing materials dry out and become inflammable in a comparatively short time; tin needs painting at regular intervals otherwise it will rust; slate is a laminated material which will split easily, especially when disintegration sets in; the quality of clay tile is uncertain owing to the methods of manufacturing it. Apparently first class clay tiles have col- lapsed after being on the roof several months. Permanence. Beautifully and artistically colored. Variety of color combinations: plain, variegated, mottled; with smooth or rough surface. Lowest fire insurance rates. Keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter (owing to insulating air space under the tile). Enhances the appearance and value of the home. Eliminates leakage. Easy to apply. Ideal for re-roofing. No repair or replacement costs. The rapidly increasing demand for more substantial home construction, espe- cially of the masonry type, has made it necessary to have a roofing material of corresponding design and durability. AMBI Roofing Tile requires no stronger roof construction than that ordinarily used for other roofing material, or as specified in the building codes of various dis- tricts throughout the United States. 2” x 6” rafters spaced 18” to 20” on center are sufficient support. For re-roofing jobs, AMBI Roofing Tile can be laid over old shingle or composition roofs. If desired, AMBI Roofing Tile can be laid on open construction (without sheathing or roofing felt). In such cases cleats are laid horizontally over rafters. For open construction horizontal joints of tiles should be well pointed underneath with Portland cement. This method is often used for farm buildings, garages, summer houses, etc. Page Ten METHOD OF LAYING AMBI ROOFING TILE THE SEAL OF QUALITY The roof to be covered with horizontal layers of good quality felt, lapping about 21%” horizontally and about 6’) with galvanized or 4” vertically at joints, to be nailed through vertical weeper strips (common lath 114” x 3 copper nails. ead ht Pe! a eed ie ome we es 2 ¥ —— Horizontal cleats 114” x 74” to be nailed to roof, spaced 1134” to 13/4” according to type of tile.
