Simple and attractive furnishings do more to make a home than the dwelling itself. In the country outdoor equipments are about as im- portant as those used for the interior. In this booklet we are showing practical and attractive equipment that we have selected after some thirty years’ experience in this line and feel that they will add much to any suburban or country home. The outdoor articles are made of materials best suited for outside use and thoroughly painted and ready for immediate use. THE BILIMORE NEW YORK JOHN MCENTEE BOWMAN PRESIDENT Private Office. E. F. Hodgson Co., 1108 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston. Gentlemen— I have often thought that the man who designed and developed the Hodgson Portable House should be decorated as a special benefactor of mankind and had he lived in any other country but America, I believe he would have been. I have been using the Hodgson Houses for years, both in Maine and in Westchester County and each Spring I marvel how they have withstood the blasting winters they have gone thru. Each one in particular seems to defy the elements and when you realize that both of these climates ave very, hard during the winter months and that after many years not even a stain of melting snow has come thru, you can realize how well they are constructed and put together. One house in particular has been used by me for over several years, part of that time as a playhouse for my little girl, but it became too small for her so I purchased a larger Hodgson House for her and turned the other one over for a tool house and there it will probably stay doing good service and no doubt outlast both the gardener JZ and myself. I have also used these houses at the kennels at Goldens Bridge and I am now erecting them for the chauffeur and the help at Stone Hedge. I do not know just how they were developed but I will say that they are the nearest thing to perfection in their line, or the nearest thing to 100%, plus that I know of. Very truly yours, Joun McEnTEE BowMan. The site was chosen because of the superb view of the harbor and bay rather than for shelter, and a good deal of risk to the building was thereby involved. “The strength and endurance of so light a building is really amazing. While we only reside in it some four months each year, as our winter headquarters are 140 miles up the bay, tt has always been a real pleasure to come back to it and a certain amount of initial trepidation, when the full fury of a storm was felt, has given way to a confidence arising from the conviction that no harder test is possible than some of those experiences during the last six years.” (Dye) JE) Ib, IAIN, FLORIDA Hurricane of September, 1926 “The Hodgson Portable Cottage erected by you for me on Bradenton Beach, Gulf of Mexico, went through the terrible hurricane of September 17th and 18th without any damage of any kind. This is remarkable when I relate that cement brick business places on the beach were seriously damaged, the bricks or blocks being blown out of their places. “The cottage was not only not damaged in the least, but nothing in it was hurt, and the clothing and beds and all furniture were entirely dry on the afternoon of the 18th, indicating that water had not leaked in. “T know of no more severe test that a structure could be put to than this hurri- cane, the worst in the history of this State or perhaps of the South, and this cottage was entirely exposed without any wind breaks, or any other buildings near it to protect or shield it.” Frep T.
