McCord EDITORIAL NOTE This list of Alabama authors has been prepared to answer the many demands for such information that have come to the Birming¬ ham Public Library. The list in its present form is merely tentative, issued with the expectation that its appearance in print will bring to attention many additional names. The list does not aim to include every author who has lived in Alabama, but rather limits its scope to those who are Alabamians by birth and education, to those who have written books during actual residence in Alabama, and to those whose connection with the state has been of such an intimate or official nature as to warrant the in¬ clusion of books published prior to Alabama residence. Authors who merely happened to live in Alabama for a few years during child¬ hood are not included. A short list of Alabamians who are contributors to periodicals is also given. JOHN C.
