According to the By-Laws of the Society, "The annual election shall be held on the day of the annual meeting, during such hours as the directors shall appoint" (Art. IX). Also, "At each annual election there shall be elected a board of eleven directors, and a committee on publication, consisting of three members. The officers of this Soci- ety shall be a President, three Vice-Presidents, a Secretary and a Treasurer. The directors shall organize immediately after their election and elect from their members the officers of the Society; they may also appoint a Librarian and such other assistants as may be required" (Art. III). At a meeting of the directors held on Tuesday evening, January 18, it was voted that the annual election should be held at the place of the annual meeting, between 7:30 and 8:30 o'clock P. M. At the meeting of the Society to be held immediately after the annual election, Professor William Carey Jones will present a paper on "The Conquest of California."
