PUBLISHED BY THE AUTHOR PRICE, ONE DOLLAR APR Oopyngm /i Copyrighted 1905 C. E. Patterson, M. D Stanton Printing Company, Grand Rapids, Mich. Introduction. ^ ^ PRESENT this work to the reading public, V-J as a complement to my first work, entitled A Knowledge of Self ; The Key to Power. By the use of the two, and the third that will immediately follow, which will go more into detail relative to the instruction that mankind can receive from the Almighty, through nature's lessons and God's Symbols, as placed on the earth and in the Heavens, thus constituting the Trinity or a com- plete series of three, any ordinary man or woman, should they choose, can by the aid of the true knowledge they can glean from these three volumes, attain unto perfect illumination. I hope my readers will not pass judgment too hastily, because the road may seem so difficult I have placed before you, for you should bear in mind, you are working for a reward that is beyond price or value to be compared in dollars and cents ; furthermore, for a reward that endureth forever. Do not lay the book idly by, thinking there are more easy ways promised you to gain immortality for your soul, than the plan laid out by me, for I say to you in all candor, the way you have been taught is a man-made conception, and if you will but reason, your judgment will soon say, if I should receive, I must do. Not merely believe another one did it for me. Some may criticise because of the plain ways in which I have spoken, but when you are talking, or writing truths, there is only one way to express them, and that is in so plain a manner, no one, not even the child, can misunder- stand. It is the hidden manner of writing truths in the past that has kept the world in darkness, as regards the real requirements of mankind, whereby they might attain unto a higher degree of under- standing, and too much accepted by belief, ideas based upon nothing but men's opinions, which were as changeable as the moon, and much more treacherous. The books I present are not voluminous, but they express the basic principles whereby any mystery may be solved, from the Earth plane tothe Spiritual. You have always been taught what would take place with your soul after death; that it either must go to one place or another. I say to you as I have many times in the lessons, accept nothing just because it has been said to you, but prove all. Find the Soul as I have told you you could, and you can prove this. Develop it so you can follow it with your consciousness, and then see what you think of man-made opinion, that does not receive its promptings from the Spirit. Study well the second lesson of this work, that you may get a thorough understanding of the source and power of thought. Thought is really the cause of the manifestation, and as you mani- fest in life, so you are, and "from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh," hence you may ever know the source of the man's thought promptings, by his words and actions. Seek to realize the source of True Thought as it is ever before you in nature, and ever bear in mind your Reason will have to be used in analyzing on both the Physical and Psychic plane, and bear in mind further, the Psychic plane comprises both the Astral, and Soul planes. After you have a thorough conception of thought, true and false, then the Key is in your hands to unlock the mystery of man's fall, and when you know the Truth, "The Truth will make you free," Improve the opportunity and gain your freedom, as this is what the Lord God Almighty desires of, and designed for, all men. You have something to do, and you have got to do it, whether it takes one physical life or one hundred. If you fail to raise yourself from the lowest part of the cycle of necessity you are in, while in a physical life, your life is a failure, hence try it over again. God's law is immovable and unchangable, and endureth forever; hence do not expect to change it by your prayers, thinking you can enjoy the follies of emotion, passion and appetite as long as your body will last, and when you can keep it no longer, just say I am sorry, and pray a little, and that puts you on a seat by the side of Jesus Christ. Oh, no! It will only just give you a chance to try it over, that is all. Study these lessons so you can pass your examina- tion upon the first trial, as environments in the next physical life might make conditions for soul unfoldment, far less advantageous than in the life you are now living. By learning how to preserve and care for the body, as you may in the third lesson of this work, you can work at much better advantage than as though you did not know, for I say to you, a healthy body is the greatest blessing of earthly gifts. A healthy body also helps to keep & fr the Soul pure. A healthy body and a pure Soul, brings perfect happiness on this Earth plane, as then the Spirit will prompt the Soul, and you are at one with your Maker — the will and design of]The Lord God Almighty. C. E. Patterson, M. D. (r LESSON I. Candidates for Initiation. ^^HERE is a spiritual wave sweeping over this ^* fair land to-day, east, west, north and south, that is prompting the inner nature of man, to seek a higher knowledge, that to him in the past, has been a blind faith, and he made to believe that only a few chosen ones would be permitted to know. This spiritual prompting due to the vibration as radiated to all mankind, from our Sun's Central Sun, and from thence through the Sun of our Solar System, brings to all men on earth, a new law or Dispensation, as has been described, in a recent work of mine entitled " A Knowledge of the Self, The Key to Power." This dear readers, is the cause of this Spiritual unrest, and all those who have any knowledge of the triune man, catch this vibration at once, and immediately begin the re- search, after something beyond what they already have. Women, and even men are investigating I Spiritual Circles, Christian Science, 1 Kvine & iem t, New Thought Journals, and not a few of both sexes are willing to pay a fair price to have some weird looking old woman to tell their fortunes with some old, greasy pack of cards, in the hope that they may learn of something in the way of a development for them in the future. They do not really know what they are looking for, but yet they feel there is something. The Awakening has come, and many are catching the vibrations, whereby a Soul Awakening will take place in different in- dividualities, many of whom, after learning of the true nature of this general unrest among men, will at once proceed to take advantage of all oppor- tunities offered, and will go on unto full illumination. Others will stop short, because of the fact that they really do not understand the full meaning of the prompting that comes to them, and of the height to which man can attain, and will be content with knowing, or of having a slight knowledge of happen- ings of the lower Psychic plane ; and then again, there will be others who will be satisfied with no knowledge at all, except that they have learned how to surrender themselves to the use and abuse of Elemental and Elementary forces, and very will- ingly part with their very life forces, as a matter ^v of business and livelihood, to those who yet are blind in their faith, and, through their ignorance and eagerness to delve into mysterious things, become participants in sinning against their fellow- man and God. I say sinning against your fellow- man and God ; I would also add yourself as well, for if you are doing something to help destroy your fellow-man, is it not a Sin? Some may take exception to this statement, but I ask you all this question: What is Sin? Is it not allowing your Soul to be guided by Elemental and Elementary forces, instead of allowing it to be guided by the Spirit? Is not sickness the result of your allowing Elementary and Elemental forces to take possession of your mind and body? Is not sin and sickness one and the same, according to the word of our Greatest Teacher? The question now arises, how shall I begin that I may make no mistakes? Hav- ing had the experience of passing through the degrees of Initiation, possibly not all the degrees unto full illumination, yet sufficient to know many of the laws whereby a Soul can pass over the Astral plane, or valley of the Shadow, and escape the contaminating influences that reside there, I take it upon myself as a duty I owe to mankind, and my God, to do all I can and to assist as best I ^ 10 ^ /? can in guiding hungry Souls to the mountain top, which the Spirit would have all men reach. The way is dangerous without a teacher that is familiar with the road, and acquainted with the influences, yes. and entities, that he must pass on the way to the higher plains. As I have said many times in ordinary conversation, I now repeat as an instructor of Souls that seek higher and true knowledge, for one to go into a Medium's Circle, and voluntarily surrender his very Soul to a blind Elementary force, is like unto blindfolding yourself and walking directly into Dante's Inferno, and should anyone take exception to this, I would gladly produce a young man that came to me within the past week, only nineteen years of age, who has done just the thing I have just advised against, and who is at the present time, fully under the control of some dis- embodied Soul, and one of the most miserable of men, and can in no wise rid himself of this unseen force without assistance from some one who under- stands the true nature of his troubles. Doctors, in general, call these cases neurasthenics, a very nice word to use when you do not know what the trouble is, and until doctors recognize the true state of affairs, their assistance will be of no avail to these poor unfortunate invalids. And I would say further, these obscessed cases, so to speak, do not come from the Mediums' Circle wholly, but just as many from these exciting protracted meetings; Methodist, Baptist, Dutch Reformed or whatsoever, wherever the power of suggestion is used, whereby the objective mind is taken possession of. Hence, the first law I would make for a class of mine, and never to be broken by a student under my instruc- tions, would be, never surrender your individuality or objective mind to any man calling himself a hypnotist, or mesmerist (they being one and the same) on this plane, and much less be hypnotized or entranced, if you so choose to call it, by any disembodied Soul on the psychic plane. To become entranced is only hypnotized from the other side of life, and I ask you, who is doing it? Many may say, if he only knew as much as I do about these things and the wonderful truths I have experienced, he would not talk as he does. To such I will say, I ran the gauntlet and came mighty near falling by the wayside, and thanks be to an All-wise Father, by the aid of my Guardian Angel, God's Messenger to men, I was enabled to see and hear what was going on in that so-called Spirit Land, and was saved from a life of slavery. Those of you who are now following my teach- 12 ings, and those that will in the future, will ob- serve that my instructions arc ever and eternally Mastership, never Slavery ; hence, it seems, no one could take exceptions, for it seems there is no one but would rather be a Master than a Slave. Some will say nonsense. My Guide is too good to en- slave, or misuse me. To such I can only say, "Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?" (Mark 8-18.) Others will work for years, night after night with some medium to become an inspirational speaker through some guide. To such I would ask one question : Would you consider it any honor to be hypnotized by the smartest man ever on earth in the past or present, and then you stand in front of the curtain and he out of sight and speak through you to an audience? A Punch and Judy if you please? You speak as long as you have vitality left, and then gradually come to your own self so you cannot be used as a mouthpiece longer, and even have no knowledge of things good or bad as you might have said during that much praised speech you might possibly have made. Would any of you enjoy this, and would you think it any par- ticular honor to be the mouthpiece of some hypno- tist to do this kind of work? This is just exactly 13 what trance speaking is, and the speaker is only a phonograph, so to speak, for some unseen entity to use whereby it may be enabled to once again mani- fest on this earth plain, and you the machine, that entity is using to ring off that much applauded speech. You have gained nothing except a few applauds of an ignorant audience. Even your own Soul is taken control of, and made to use the language of another. No development of the Divine part of you whatsoever. And now I ask, do you want such development? Or would you prefer to develop the true Spirit principle within yourself, and receive your promptings from the giver of all true knowledge, The Lord God Almighty? The question is an easy one for me to answer, and it seems should be for all. To those who are students of mine, and to all readers of my works who are earnest seekers after true knowledge, I would say : You present yourselves to me as candidates for initiation into the school of higher law. You are not as yet Initiates, even though some of you might have been under the instruction of a teacher who might have given you that title. That you may know what an Initiate is so you will not be dis- appointed in my saying to you, you are not one, I present to you the language of one of our best ^ modern mystics, Eliphas Levi, whom most, if not all Students in the higher laws will at once recog- nize. He defines an Initiate as follows: "The Initiate is he who possesses the lamp of Trismegis- tis, the mantle of Appolonius and the staff of the Patriarchs. The lamp of Trismegistis is reason illuminated by Science and Science is Absolute Truth. The mantle of Appolonius is full and com- plete self possession, which isolates the Sage from all blind tendencies; and the staff of the Patriarchs is the help of the Secret, and everlasting forces of nature." Now I ask you how many of you are in pos- session of all the qualifications that would entitle you to the name, Initiate? It may seem wrong to you that I should not flatter you in the progress you have made, rather than to show you the real truth just exactly as it is. To which I would answer as follows: It is far better to feel your littleness, so to speak, than to get so puffed that there is a liability of an explosion, and the going to pieces so great, that it is almost an impossibility to recover from the shock. Pride always taketh a fall, and about the time you think you knozv it all, the blind forces that have charge of your development, will drop you so hard you will fully realize the truth of what I have said to you. To some, the humility # ^ they would suffer from the fall would be so great, that it would bar their progress forever after, but having had the experience, I can only say to you, should you be one of the ones who has to have the experience I have had in order to be brought to your senses, do not waver and be discouraged, but rise with renewed energy, and just think of what I have told you, and feel that you have only dashed your head against a sign board, that says, Too Much Puffed on Yourself. I will say to you now, most, if not all of us, have to pass through that vale of humility, and I believe it says, " He who humbles himself shall be exalted." But in passing through that vale, should discouragement come and our efforts cease, certainly we will never reach the top of the mountain and if you will read nature, surely you will observe that the valley always pre- cedes the hill, and we must go through it, before the summit can be reached. Hence, I would say, fix your eye on the point you desire to reach, and let no valley or obstruction bar your progress until you reach the height of your aspirations ; and be sure you do not make too low an estimate of your abilities. The question now at once arises, What are your aspirations? To enter into an At-One- Ment with Universal Intelligence for personal mer- /?= ^\ cenary gain because you have learned from ob vation that some have powers that did you have you could make yourself rich in short order? Is it because it would make you popular in the eyes of men? Or is it because the Divine Spark from within, has prompted the soul to rise from the temptations and allurements of material things of earth, and establish itself once again in the position from which it fell, when Souls were given a physical body and became their own free Moral Agents and formed laws for themselves, rather than accept the laws as already made by an All Wise Father? I ask you which? If prompted by the first motive I have mentioned, I urge you to desist from effort in further progress, for it will only mean death, and possibly absolute loss of individuality. If prompt- ed by the Spirit, I urge you to press forward and take advantage of all opportunities that may pre- sent themselves for obtaining true knowledge, for it will bring to you reward that money, lands, or jewels would not buy. But I ask you before you start, have you considered the price? Or do you feel in your own Soul that the reward is such that the price is of no consideration whatever? If you are starting from mere mercenary gain, I urge you to consider well the price. It is greater than you 17 can afford to pay. No matter what your income and bank account amount to. If you are an earn- est seeker after knowledge because of the Spirit prompting the Soul, you need not consider the price for a single instant, for you are ready to pay the price, no matter what it be: Money, friends, relatives or whatsoever. And friends I will say right here and now, I am not simply talking from belief but from actual experience, as I have really suffered the loss of all I have mentioned, but I will add further, could I be guaranteed a deed of the world and the management of its people, if I would be placed back in Soul Unfoldment where I was four years ago, my answer would be, "Get ye behind me Satan." Many will say they cannot believe this, but you who have read the Bible, will recall the one case as mentioned, and now I say to you in all candor, you know of two. As a word of encouragement, I will say, if the Spirit has prompt- ed the Soul, to obtain this higher knowledge and development, you will be taken care of, no matter how dark things at times may seem to you. If your heart is in the work, in perfect harmony with an All-Wise One, His eye will ever be on you, and He will ever care for his Chosen Ones ; and you are one of them. So have no fear ; now you ^: IS fr have made your choice. But, before going further, [ ask you, who are you? Are you a Messiah sent here to earth purposely as an instructor to men, to raise them up from the depths of despair into which many have fallen? Are you an Adept, or designed to be one? And if so, do you know how to begin? Or, are you just an ordinary Soul, en- dowed with Spirit as is all mankind and in pos- session of a physical body, and that Spirit is stirring your very soul, and urging it on to seek higher knowledge that it may in time be Initiated into the mysteries "so-called " of God? Solomon said, "Man, of all things you do, get Wisdom." Solon, one of the seven wise men of Greece, in one of his wise sayings, said, u Man Knoiv Thyself." I ask you, Do you know yourself? If not, you do not know how to start on this journey after true know- ledge, for the beginning of the journey for the Initiate, is at the place where Churches have been trying to direct their congregations these hundreds of years, and because of their lack of true know- ledge of themselves, they will be awfully surprised in the future to find themselves at the day they choose to call death, not even within the outer gates. Hence I say first of all, Know Thyself. Now >ou ask, What do you really mean? I mean, i" ^v know of your greatness, and your likeness unto God, the Creator of all things. In the first chap- ter of Genesis you will read that God made man in His own Image. I do not consider the reading of that to mean that man in personal appearance looks like God, but that man is in possession of Attributes, that are in correspondence with those of God. What are these Attributes, I hear you at once ask? Certainly no one as yet has been able to comprehend God as a unity, or find words to ex- press his Greatness in any one word, hence the wise men of ancient times reasoned thus: That three was the number of perfection hence three ultimates ought to express His Greatness, so they could at least have some conception of what God was, hence the choice of the three, Force, Love and Intelligence, corresponding to the three spheres, colored red, yellow and blue as described in the Knowledge of the Self. As man was made in the image of God, man must possess three attributes corresponding to Force, Love and In- telligence. Now as we analyze man, we find his force is made manifest through his physical body. His love attribute comes through his emotional nature, which we have learned has its seat in the Soul. Again we know there must be a communica- =s/ 20 tion between the Soul and God, and that must be through the Spirit, hence we have in man the three corresponding Attributes with God, body, Soul and Spirit. Hence, if man would communi- cate with God, it must be done through the Spirit, from the Spirit to the Soul, and from the Soul to the physical man. The question now at once arises, how can we prepare the body that it may receive the prompt- ings from the Soul and Spirit? And I say to you and all men, the promised land cannot be reached except as we understand these laws and receive the promptings from the Spirit, as the Spirit is God's messenger, and only through the promptings of the Spirit can we learn of the way to an At-One-Ment with our Creator. The Soul itself without the prompt- ings, does not know the law of higher attainment ; hence, do not look for true knowledge in any Medium's Circle, as the highest knowledge you would get there would only come from Elemental or Soul force, and not from Spirit. And now we come to the physical man builded up by nature over the form of the Astral body, which is builded by a power above the building of bodies on the physical earth. The physical body is super- intended in its building by the Soul, with the # /? Elemental forces as assistants, and Special Senses given the body whereby the Soul may have assis- tants in caring for that body. Now observe, it was these five senses, that were the real cause of the fall of man. The Soul stands between the five senses and the Spirit. It is either instructed by the physical five senses, or by the Spirit. These five senses furnish us, or are the means rather, by which we develop our intellect, or as we say, gain the knowledge we are so proud of, and call it intellectuality or education. While on the other hand the Spirit, were it allowed, would furnish us with pure Intelligence, and let me empha- size here again, as I have many times before, but as the word is so badly misconstrued and used nowadays, I feel a pardon will readily be granted, when I use the term Spirit I do not mean any dis- embodied soul but pure Spirit, as it emanates from the Almighty, The Source of All Truth, and which will be made very plain in the next lesson on the origin of and difference between Divine thought and man-made opinion. The question at once arises, which will we allow our soul to be guided by: The five senses or the promptings of the Spirit, the true and only source of Truth? And now I hear the question, How shall we know what the promptings 22 of the Spirit are? Many will say nonsense; tl is no such thing as being prompted by the Spirit. To those who will make such a statement there is no use of argument for they simply do not believe the great hook of laws: The Bible, that is given for men to live by and attain unto the highest position, or At-One-ment with their God. That book speaks time and again of this same thing, and I ask you to read the book of Revelations, and see how the writer urges men to overcome, and the many re- wards they are to receive for this overcoming. What are these overcomings John the Revelator is talking so much about? Simply the overcomings of the five special senses as they are prompted to action by their rulers, the Elemental forces. Over- come these and listen to the promptings of the Spirit, and gain true intelligence, which is from God, rather than earthly knowledge which cometh only from men, true today and false tomorrow. Still I hear the question, How shall I know the promptings of the Spirit? To which 1 answer, listen to the voice of conscience, and be sure you do not let selfishness step in by the side of it. and you get the wrong voice ; and then assisted by reason, and with willpower as your battery, do what your conscience dictates. Some might take exception to fr this statement and say they thought some men had no conscience to start with, hence would be a very poor medium through which the Spirit could pour its promptings: To which I will agree in part, for the teachings of some from early childhood have been such, that the finer sensibilities even of con- science have become so blunted and materialistic, nothing pure could penetrate without contamina- tion, and yet who knows of the remorse of heart of some of the worst of criminals, who were seem- ingly without ever having had a conscience. All Kings of Science are men who know these Truths, and their Knowledge or the Truth has made them free, according to the specific promise given by one of the most Mighty of Initiates, Jesus Christ. The man who is enslaved by his passions, emotions, appetites or worldly prejudices can in no wise become an Initiate. He must change, or he can never attain unto True Knowledge. He cannot be an Adept, for the word signifies, one who has at- tained by will, and work. What kind of work ? The work that it requires to master your temper, your tongue, your emotions, and your passions. That is the work dear friends of an Adept, and after you have done all this, you have taken the first step as an Initiate, and now I ask you, what do you think of the Straight and narrow way, as taught and practiced by church members as compared to that of an Initiate, or even an Adept, in the Higher Knowledge? The man who loves his own opinions and fears to part with them, who is always suspicious of new truths, who is ever prepared to doubt every- thing rather than admit anything on chance, should cease further effort in this line of work, for to him it is useless and dangerous. If you hold by anything in the world more than by reason, truth and justice; if your will be uncertain and vacillating either in good or evil; if logic alarm you and the naked truth make you blush; if you are hurt when accepted errors are assailed, you are not yet chosen to be instructed into the mysteries of an All Wise Father, but at the same time, using the exact words of Eliphas Levi, "Do not cry it down as dangerous, for it will be accepted and understood by an elect few," and I believe it says in that great book of Metaphysics, "Many are called, but few Chosen." Taking for granted that all, or most of my readers, are chosen to attain unto Initiation, we will now proceed to outline the work to be done by each and every one, that we may receive the promptings of the Spirit. First let me say to you, you do not know a single thing simply by me or anyone else telling it to you. I can suggest to you, you must prove it, else it is never a truth to you, only by belief in what I say. Belief is not always reliable, for you might under- stand different from what I ever said ; hence, you do not even start with the right belief as I would have you, hence I say prove all things, for things that may appear at first glance to be absolutely false, may be truths of greatest importance to you. I would say then first of all, it is the duty of a teacher, to instruct his pupils what to do that they may receive this knowledge themselves, without books or teacher. Then as a teacher, I would ask you to recall the knowledge you have of man before he was as yet projected into the Physical. And to those who are not in possession of the knowledge, I would say, before the projection of man in a physical body on this physical plane, he was perfect, and knew no evil. When he was projected to this earth, as I have told you before, that the Soul might have assistance in caring for his physical body, the special senses were given ; hence, it must appear, that when the special senses were given to man then came the fall, and to return to that position from which he fell, the things or forces that pro- duced his fall must be recognized and taken 26 ^ possession of, and brought under absolute control Control of what' Of the will, guided by rea and conscience. Man becomes king of the brute creation only by subduing or taming them, other- wise he will become their victim or slave. Brutes are the type of our passions, they are the instructive forces of nature. Now, if we would attain, we have a battle on hand at once. The passions must be conquered and made subject to our will. The emotions must also be conquered and made subject to the same power. How will we begin ? All emotions, and all passions, are first prompted by thought. Now what is thought? A full explanation of the origin or source of thought, both true and false, will be given in the next lesson, but suffice at just the present time to say, it is vibrations set in motion through the agencies of one of the five senses, lest it come from Universal Intelligence, and unless we are masters of these coarse vibrations of emotion and passion, the vibration from Univer- sal Intelligence is so fine it passes through, and we are unable to catch a single thought from which to formulate a single idea. Hence, begin at once to develope the will, as it is a part of God, or of Universal Force. You are heir to any amount you will develope or appropriate to your good. First 27 begin by making the muscles of your body sub- servient to that will. After practicing that until you have gained a pretty good control over the various muscles of the body, begin practicing the control of the breathing. First take ten seconds to inhale, then ten to hold the breath, and then ten seconds to let out the breath. From day to day increase the time until you can use thirty seconds to inhale, ten to hold the breath, and then thirty to let it out. Practice will increase your ability, until every muscle is under your absolute control. Even the muscles of the heart can be controlled by the will, but get absolute control over all the other muscles first. Then begin to control the tongue, for I say to you, men's and women's tongues are the makers of as much, if not more trouble, than any other part of the body. The eyes see, the tongue has to tell it. The ears hear, the tongue has to tell it. The hands commit murder, the tongue has to tell it to some trusty friend, and thus it goes. So I say, learn to see and not see; learn to hear and not hear, and as you progress in your unfoldment so you can receive your own prompt- ing, there will be a message come like this, " If you can say no good, say nothing." When you have gotten so you have mastered thus far, then begin l =*\ the mastership over thought. At first you may not be able to cast them out entirely, but I will tell you what you can do in such a case, trade then off. When a bad thought comes, or one that will make you any trouble, think of some one in its stead that will bring you joy and happiness. By so doing you will escape many a sad hour, and possibly a run of severe illness. After practicing this for some time you will then become able to cast out any thought at will that your inner conscience, will tell you is dangerous to entertain. And this is what Jesus was practicing when he said: "Satan get ye behind me." After you have gained mastership over the five senses and over the control of thought, then retire to the silence and listen. You may not have to wait even as long as this ere the voice speaks. Yes the voice; and as plainly as you can hear mine. Not the voice of God, as one thought whom I chanced to meet a short time ago, who had heard the voice I speak of, and not the voice of some guide as a great many think who are hearing voices, but the voice of your own Soul. Your true self. Listen to what it may say to you. Learn the errors of your past. Learn wherein you are hindering your present developement. It will tell you things you had long since forgotten, and pos- ts & sibly some you will wish had always remained so. Soon after this, if you have learned the lesson of self control well, the Spirit will begin to prompt the Soul and true knowledge will be imparted to you, and then you can prove to yourself whether what I have told you is true or not. As I have said to you before, nothing is a truth, only as you prove it, but after the Spirit once begins to prompt you, you know a truth as soon as you hear it, from the illumination you receive at the moment, if not from the basic reasoning which all truths have. Now to return to Eliphas Levi's definition of an Initiate, and let us see if we have planned the way by which we can become one. First. We must possess the lamp of Trismegis- tis. Or we must have reason illuminated by Science and Truth. If we have so developed our- selves so the Soul can talk to us prompted by the Spirit, or the Spirit ever ready to illumine us so we can recognize truths when we hear them or read them, have we not even found the lamp and got it into our possession? Then again, we must possess the mantle of Appolonius so we will be able to isolate all blind tendencies. If we are masters of the passions, the Emotions, any and all of the five senses, and S/ lastly, but by no means least, have the power tO check any and every impure thought, are we not in possession of the mantle? Can we not protect our- selves from any blind force" Certainly we can, and the mantle we possess is of the finest texture. And now how about the staff of the Patriarchs? The forces of nature, are the Elemental forces, and if we are perfect masters of ourselves, are we not masters of the forces of nature? Truly we are and I feel the day is not far distant, when the Elemental forces of nature will be my best friends, rather than ever seeking to make trouble for me, for those within me are nearly, if not quite, within my con- trol, and had they not been, I assure you I would not have been allowed to present to you these truths as plainly as I have, for surely it seems to me, I have made the way plain, and furthermore, have shown to you or pointed out where the dangerous places are, and I will only say in con- clusion for thislesson, Straight is the path and narrow is the way in which you must tread; in fact, much narrower than the Strictest Church Creed would even insinuate. Do you think you can follow the path that leads up to the Mount of Illumination? If you do, by all means make the Ascent, and when you have =*v arrived at the summit and look back over the path you have trod, and behold the wondrous powers and elevated position of man, to which he can at- tain by knowledge and perserverance, you will feel from the innermost recesses of your heart, and will cry out from the very depths of your very Soul, Praise God, from whom these blessings flow, Praise Him, All Mankind here below, Praise Him above, ye Heavenly hosts Praise Your Guardian Angel, The Holy Ghost. ^ LESSON II. Man's Duty. yM^ANKIND comes into this world as a child, ^■•J born of woman, a child of nature and of God. As a child, devoid of Thought, Reason and Will and physically helpless. The care of the physical body must necessarily devolve upon the parents. As the child grows, the five senses born with the fifth root race gradually come into action, and the objective mind is gradually developed. Before there is any use made by the child of any of the five senses whereby any mind could become developed, we will notice in the child a mind, which does not come through the use of the five senses, and that is, what we call the intuitive mind, or in other words the subjective mind, or if you so choose to call it, the mind of the young animal, or in other words, the prompting of the Soul to that physical body, that food is required, as usually that is the first manifestation of physical mind. Hence as you can see at once, the child comes into the world with a =S\ dual mind, one of which is to be generated or made here on the Physical plane, by, and through the use of the five senses, and which will be according to the education it receives from its parents, or the one who has charge of it. The other mind comes independent of the five senses, and receives prompt- ings from some source higher in authority, than from men of earth. It may be you have all taken recognition of this, long ere this, but if you have not, stop for a minute and think, if you have not seen babies, time and again, that you were positive in your own mind, knew things which you could not account for in any other way, only as I have explained, for they certainly could not have known what they did, by any power of reasoning through the five senses. In presenting this subject to you, most if not all of you, undoubtedly ask in your own minds, what could any man consider his first duty? To me the answer is easy, and when I tell you what I consider the first duty of man, you will all agree, I think without a dissenting voice. In my opinion, the first duty of all men is to learn to think, and to make this emphatic, I ask you, How many men or women do you know that really do think? Is it not a fact that a few men do the think- ing for the general whole? Have you not heard papers read before Societies where there was not an original idea of the writer expressed in the whole article, and the whole simply a collection of quotations of other men's ideas, or thoughts? Is it not a fact that a few Doctors think for all the rest of the Great Army of Doctors? The same with lawyers? And is it not a fact, that many ser- mons preached on Sunday all have their origin in the Headquarters of the Church according to the denomination using them? If not, how do so many men hew so close to the same line? When a min- ister begins to think for himself, he begins to bring out some truths, but as soon as he does, he is pro- nounced a Heretic by the Church, and usually has to seek new fields of labor. When the phy- sician advances a new and original idea, he is ostracised from the profession and called a quack, and in Ancient days they imprisoned him, and sometimes even murdered him. They would do the same thing today if the general populace had not learned to think more than the Doctor and would not uphold such indignities. Hundreds of inci- dents could be mentioned, where men have been put to death for simply presenting formulated thoughts or ideas, before the populace had gradu- ally been brought up to a standard, so to speak, ^= 33 whereby they would accept, or even tolerate them. And now the question arises at once, What is Thought? I venture the assertion, and I sense without fear of contradiction, that all true thought originated with, and is wholly from the Almighty. As it came forth, it manifested itself on the Spiri- tual plane as Spirit. As Spirit manifests on the plane lower, or on the soul plane it becomes Intelli- gence. You will now observe in reading the de- scription of the Creation, as given by Moses, that, " The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, and God said let there be Light, and there was Light and God saw that it was good." Now you observe, this Light is the Intelligence produced or brought forth by the presence of the Spirit, or in other words, Spirit made manifest on a lower plane, as Intelligence. This Intelligence now makes itself manifest in the formation of a Solar system, the rulership secondarily, becoming Soul rulership corresponding to this plane. Included in this system, are seven planets or co-workers, the combined influence, producing as a whole, the manifestation of Soul Intelligence. As this Intelli- gence or thought is projected to the physical plane, it manifests itself in the various minerals, plants and animals, as exist on this physical earth. ^ 36 I 1 1< nee, the saying, That all things on this earth, arc thoughts of God, made manifest; and the still more familiar saying, That " Nature is God's open book, placed before man, that he might read as he runs." And now, as you will review the few thoughts just gone over, you will observe from the Spiritual plane, the thought of God is presented direct by the Spirit. From the Soul plane, the thought of God is made manifest by the planets and stars, and as the predominance of any special one or more radiates its influence to this earth, such will be the power of attraction, that will direct the things of earth in certain directions. As these seven forces concentrate their energies to things here on earth, the manifestation comes forth, as animal, mineral and vegetable growth. As the in- fluence of any one planet predominates, such will be the nature of the thing produced as is predomi- nant in the Soul nature of the planet predominant in Action. For instance, Gold is of the vibration of the Sun or partakes of the nature of Sun vibration; Tin expresses in the mineral kingdom, Jupiter vibration predominant, Lead of Saturn, Copper of Venus, Iron of Mars, Silver of the Moon, and Mercury of the planet Mercury. The same law exists in all plants, animals and last, but 37 =*v not least in man, as it is from this Soul Intelligence that man's soul is individualized. Furthermore, that soul in the man, varies according in its emo- tional nature, as is predominant any special plane- tary influence, at the time of birth. From thence the saying in Astrology that such a planet or planets as the case may be, are Lords of the first house, or Life rulers. It seems now there has been sufficient said on this line of thought to show you that all growth on this earth, is as has been said, simply thoughts of God made manifest, hence for man to obtain the true thought of God, he must know how to read God's Language as ex- pressed in Symbol or hieroglyph as placed before him in nature. Knowing how to read the language of nature, or if you please knowing how to read the Thoughts of God, as made manifest on this physical earth, in the various things placed before you, you will know the advice as would be given you by the Almighty himself, as regards the things you should do here on this Physical plane, as would be best for you from a physical standpoint. Then, again, there are things in nature, that would even direct the thoughts to the two next higher planes, the plane of Soul, and the plane of Spirit. To most men there are no lessons learned even from the 3S things on the Physical plane, say nothing of the knowledge to be gained from the thoughts of God as made manifest in the Heavens, but as I li said, the Creations of earth, produce the Thoughts of God, for directing men in caring for their physical bodies. So the Heavens make manifest the Thoughts of God as regards the instruction the Almighty would give to the Soul of Man, hence the saying of David: "The heavens declare the Glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech or language where the voice is not heard." (XIX Psalm.) This knowledge as it comes to man from the Heavens, is direct from the Almighty, and tells to man just exactly what will be his soul ex- perience, as a result of being projected into a physical body, at the time we call birth. That young soul is at that moment, caught by the web, so to speak, of the various Angles as cast by the various planets, thus forming the life experi- ences of that child. Could you read the lan- guage of God, or catch the Divine thought from the manifestation he makes with the various angles, then could you direct the child aright, and also your- self, as well. Friends, these bad angels, or angles as VJS: 39 (? cast from the Heavens, are the bad influences that direct men to do the things not for their good, and the good of their fellowman. They are the An- gels, so to speak, that the Bible speaks of, as being cast out of Heaven, as bad Angels. They are the influences radiated to men on earth by two or more planets, which are not vibrating in harmony with each other, and the Angle they cast, is God's figure, or language to mankind, and as much as says, be careful, and not let it misguide you. In other words by knowing that improper Angles are to take place in the Heavens at certain times, is the same as knowing that God has spoken to you, for this is the way He speaks from this plain. Hence, the great importance of knowing geometric symbolism ; and the Mason who wears the square surmounted by the com- pass, surrounding the letter G, as much as says, I understand geometric symbolism, or the lan- guage of God. I hope he does, and he should, for Masonry was originally based on the Absolute Truth, and as King Solomon did know, and when he placed the two pillars at the entrance of the Temple, he as much as said do you enter by know- ledge or ignorance. Brother Masons, are you reading the thoughts of God from the Heavens, or 40 {? from the Universal Intelligence, as the charm you wear would indicate? If you are, then at any time when you choose, by casting a scheme of the Heavens you know by the angles cast, what the Almighty is saying to your Soul or to the Souls of men in general. From thence man is directed to the next higher plane, the plane of Spirit. From this plane there is no reasoning or no deductions to be made, as you are now in the vibration of God, and yoti know becattse you know. Immersed as it were, by waters from the fountain head, with no chance of contamination. We now revert back to man as a child. He is born, as has been taught you before in the lessons of the knowledge of the Self, with body, Soul and Spirit. The Soul is ruler of the body, and is attracted to that child, as yet unborn, according to the aspirations of the mother. The physical body, according to the law of God and Nature, is the creation of the Father and Mother. With the physical body, whose ruler is the Soul, there comes in this fifth root race, five special senses, as assistants to the Soul, in caring for the physical wants of this body. This child as it were, is born into the world, the same as an animal, with as yet no sense of reasoning, through knowledge gained by the use of any 41 4 ^v of the five senses. As the child grows, the five senses gradually develop, and the parents begin teaching the child things they think they know, in order that the child may develop its brain, and gradually learn to think as they say and sooner or later learn to reason. As the child grows it learns more and more by the aid of these five senses, until it gradually begins to formulate ideas of its own, and thus it sends out on the etheric waves, vibrations or thoughts so to speak. Not of God's, but of its own and man-made, because they have been learned of men, and framed according to the man's ideas that produced them. And I ask you, do scarcely two men, with their man-made opinions ever agree exactly on a single question? Now I ask you, has the child anything more than the shadow of truth as regards True Thought? In fact, oftentimes, has he as much as even the Shadow? Not having had instruction from his parents, as regards the source of True Thought, whom do you think to blame for the continuance of things as they exist today? Not having the knowledge yourself, so you can teach the child, what kind of a teacher do you suppose the child will make for teaching others? Is it any wonder that medicine as it is taught today and practiced, is considered even by the laiety, a gigantic fare-, and the so-called graduates have to make such stren- uous laws to keep the quacks as they call them, out of their best families, and by the aid of the law rather than superior qualities of the man, save their yearly incomes? Is it any wonder that old orthodox church membership is on the decrease, and Christian Science, Divine Science, New Thought and Philosphy on the increase? Is it any wonder why law and Politics are corrupt to the very centre, and the pile of money, ruling the decision of the judges? No! No! And until men begin to know these truths, will there be any improvement. There may be exceptions to some of these state- ments just made, but you show me the exception in a single case, and I will show you a man, who has a soul awakening, or one prompted by the Spirit and who will soon be put out of the position because he cannot be bought with a price. I do not believe men are bad, and dishonest from choice, and make but very little if any effort to control themselves, but rather because they do not know, and the first blame must of necessity be laid at the door of the parent, whose duty it was to start that child in life right ; to teach him what True Thought was, and from what source it came. To teach him the difference 43 between True Thought, and that man made. But alas! He did not know himself, and how can one teach, if he does not know ? Hence, here is one of the first duties that man should learn. He should learn it for his own good ; He should learn it for the good of those who depend upon him, for their start in life, and he should also learn it for the gen- eral good of all mankind, and I now ask you, is it not the design of an All- Wise Father, that we help one another ? Then if we would, we must learn the source of True or Divine Thought which com- eth only from God, and not allow it to become con- taminated with that which has its origin in man, which may be true today, but false tomorrow. Lack of truth, gives loss of confidence. There is no truth in man, only as it cometh from God, hence, so long as men make the thought and recognize no other, so long will lack of confidence, discontent, war and bloodshed, exist among mankind. And now you ask when did men drift from the real truth as you would have us understand it? To which I reply as follows : Man originally came on this Physical plane perfect, and in possession only of True and Divine thoughts. He knew the Divine laws whereby he might even sustain his physical body, without the aid of foods as we use them to- day, but rather through the agency of the atfl phere, as all forces are radiated from above, through this medium, and from thence stored in the various plants and growths on this earth, whereby man in his present state of enlightenment, takes from them, the forces, and requirements of his physical body. From thence, you can at once understand the Garden of Eden, was a condition, rather than a place, for with the True and full knowledge of Divine Law, whereby the will of Man, was as the will of God, can you not at once see, man was per- fectly independent, regardless of place or surround- ings? But with the projection of Man into the physical, there came the Special Senses to assist the Soul in caring for that physical body. The eyes began to see; the ears began to hear; the feel- ings of emotions and passions began to develop. The planets had begun their circuits in the Heavens, radiating their good and bad angles to men on the earth. These Angles began at once to play upon the emotions of men, and the moon, the force greatest of all playing upon the man's emotions, at once produced by its rapid circuit through the heavens: The Serpent that tempted Eve, that Serpent so much spoken of in the Bible, and according to man-made opinion, considered by 45 ^v most of men to be the snake that crawls in the grass, but my dear readers, the Bible Serpent is not the snake we know of, and if you would stop to think, as I have taught you, you should, do you suppose you could plan a way whereby the snake could talk to mankind? No! No! But as the Emotions began to develop in man, the forces as was radiated from the planets, began to generate in man new thoughts, and as these new thoughts gradually began to develop, man began to taste of the forbidden fruit, and as these emotional thoughts came faster and faster, he soon lost the promptings of the Spirit or Divine Thought, and as the Bible says he was driven out of the Garden of Eden, and does not the Bible say he was not to retain this higher knowledge, for fear he would live alway? Read (Genesis 3-22.) As it says thus, "And the Lord God said, Behold the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil, and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever." Then again, to prove further that man originally did not have to partake of the foods of earth, as men do today, read (Genesis 3-17.) "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee say- 46 ing, Thou shalt not eat of it, cursed is the ground for thy sake ; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life." Then in the next verse it says. " Thorns also and thistles, shall it bring forth to thee and thou shalt eat the herbs of the fields." In other words from the lack of true knowledge, the sickness produced from your own man-made opin- ion, you will have to cure in the future by the use of herbs that grow in the fields. With the true knowledge, let me say here, it requires no herbs of the field, as there would be no sickness or suffering whereby they would be required. When you possess true knowledge you will not violate law ; and sickness and suffering are only the result of its violation. Then again, notice in that 17th verse it says, "because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife." Why was it the woman, who tempted the man, instead of the man tempting the woman, as is shown, and was the judgment of God, accord- ing to this verse? Let me say to you, this only verifies the point made earlier in the lesson when I said the moon was the cause of the radiating in- fluence that awakened the thought in mankind, whereby the emotions were stirred, and the woman being the more senitive to vibrations than the man, she would necessarily receive the thought •7 f? vibrations first, and then transmit, or prompt the man with the thought these vibrations had set in motion, in her own objective mind. Some may say, and will say, I do not believe the moon, or any other Planet vibrations, have any effect on mankind what- soever. As I have told you before in our lessons, the moon in the Heavens corresponds to the brain in the man, and as the brain acts in the man, so the moon does in the Heavens, only the moon acts first, and the brain at once follows, and vibrates in the same key. The woman being the most sensitive to vibrations, as a matter of fact, responds to the vibration at once. And now can you not recall the fact, from your own observation, when you will just stop and think, that the moon has a marked influence on most if not all women every month, and on some to the extent of making them nearly or quite insane? Go with me into the Asylums, and study those cases of insanity and see for your- self, and then you can appreciate the depth of my statements. Some you will see, who are perfectly sane except at certain phases of the moon, and as soon as that change is passed over, perfectly rational again, but a repetition again, and again as that special influence is radiated from that seeming innocent and harmless orb, in our Sky. You will 4S ^\ see its effect on both men and women but, neces- sarily, as I have before stated, more on the woman than on the man. As I have said to you many times before, I do not ask you to accept a single statement I may make, simply because I say it, but I do say open your eyes and see. I now ask you to read the first two verses of the VI Chapter of Genesis, which reads as follows, "And it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them, The sons of God saw the daughters of men were fair, and they took them wives, all which they chose." The sons of God were certainly those who knew the true knowledge, but they were overcome by the sense of sight, one of the five senses. I have taught you man was to overcome, and thus you see, in the beginning, the best of men began to formulate thoughts of their own, prompted by one of these five senses, whose very nature is to stir the emo- tions, and thus, gradually, they began to think, as men say today, thoughts that harmonized with their own emotions and selfishness, rather than with the will of God. By so doing, in a short time the true thought of God was lost sight of, so to speak, and the thought vibrations as could be caught by men, were principally those of man-made opinion, rather 4Q than the thought vibrations of the Spirit or God, as was made manifest in nature that surrounded man on all sides. As time went on, these thought vibra- tions of men, based wholly, as you might say, upon selfishness, became stronger and stronger until finally the whole world thought vibration, became such that the finer vibrations, could no longer find lodgement in man's material and money making mind. Furthermore, not only does mind influence mind, as Eve did Adam, but as souls pass out of bodies, on to the Psychic plane, filled with emotion and passion, let me say to you, we have not gotten rid entirely of bad souls by the change we call death, for after they leave this earth, they impress souls yet on this earth with the same ideas, or thoughts as they were in possession of, while they were yet in a physical body on this Earth plane. And now I hear, Oh, Bosh! What nonsense! But to such I can only say, develop the Soul Sense of Sight that God has given to all men, and then visit the saloon bar, where men are standing drinking, and see what you see. If you are too materialistic to develop any of the higher God-given senses, ask some good Seer, to see for you and tell you what he sees. Simply because you cannot develop, do riot think no one else can, and I would say further, you & 50 have got to accept some things by others telling you, if you have not come into the possession of true knowledge. I would also add, watch the patient who is having an epileptic fit, and if you please, watch the excited church member who gets, what they call the power, in an exciting church revival meeting, and if you can see, certainly you will say, it does not make angels out of men to die, but devils instead. And let me add here, paren- thetically, the death penalty as adopted by many states for their criminals, is the greatest mistake ever made by an intelligent people. You have only freed a murderous soul from a physical body, and it becomes much more dangerous, and de- structive to mankind on the psychic plane, than on the physical, where it had a physical body to mark it. Such murderous fiends need to be taken care of, but confine the body so as to hold that Soul as much as possible, in the hopes the Soul may change before it leaves the body, for I say to you in all candor, and because I know, that it becomes a prompter of thought in men, and thoughts of the vilest kind, when it finds one tuned to its vibration on this earth. And it finds them, and takes advantage of the adverse in- fluences that is radiated to men from the planets in 51 ^ the heavens, and the moment of birth of any child, will tell to the one who can read God's language from the manifestation in the heavens, at what time any child will be taken advantage of by these un- seen foes. And now I hear some one ask for some illustration of my statement, to which I reply, by asking you a question. Did one of you ever see a kleptomaniac? It was not really their desire to steal, but when the moon stood in some certain position, no matter how honest that person was at other times, and no matter how many churches he was a member of, he went straight out and stole something, and ofttimes things of very inferior quality, as compared with things of the same sort he in all probability possessed at the same time. And then, again, did you ever take note of the fact that most kleptomaniacs were women? Take the drinking husband, (yes or wife sometimes) and does he not start out from home in the morn- ing with the firm resolve that he will not touch a single drop during his absence? But he is scarcely outside of the home, when the thought comes into his mind quicker than a flash, I wish I had a glass of beer, and that thought stays there until he goes and gets it, and goes home, drunker if anything than he was the last time, and then the remorse 52 rr that follows, because he did not mean to break his word. Friends, who made him break it? Doj of illustrations could be made to show how these unseen influences prompt thoughts in men in regard to physical ills, but as they will all be brought out in the next lesson on the subject of how to preserve your health, I will not dwell longer on that subject in this place. There is undoubtedly not a single person, but that has had not only once, but dozens of times, thoughts flash into their minds, that were foreign to anything they had ever seen, heard, or even dreamed of, which had they entertained and followed out in action according to the prompting, would have meant absolute ruin to them, morally, physically, and financially. Who prompted that thought? Did you ever stop to ask such a ques- tion when one of these promptings came? It was not from your subjective mind per se and not from your objective mind, as having been recorded on the subjective plates, as you had never known anything of it before. Then again, many times these unseen entities, will bring scenes within your objective mind, that will remind you of things you have seen in the past, whereby a special train of thought is started to acting, and as you think, so you are. Thought always precedes the ^ S3 action and though your conscience dictates against the action, every repetition of the act lessens the dictations to the contrary of the conscience. Often- times, when the mind will not tolerate these stray and unwelcome thoughts, these unseen prompters of thought will use your sleeping hours, and throw before you scenes in your dreams, that you will have to make strong efforts upon awakening, to get the mind once again free from. As a general thing, men think these are only dreams, and do not give them any particular consideration, but I say to you beware of stray thoughts, that are thrown into your mind, from any source, or in any way, and if they contain any taint whatever that would be detrimen- tal to your good, cast them out at once, as you would a robber from your house, for they are the serpents assistants, that was the means of man's fall, or loss of true knowledge, whereby man lost his inheritance to the Garden of Eden. Now, all thought is vibration, hence, any force that will set up a new vibration, will bring about another train of thought. You will receive the vibration according to the Key, you are specially attuned to. If you are wholly of the material, you will only receive vibra- tions as they come through the promptings of the five senses. If you are keyed a little higher, you are =*\ more responsive or sensitive, and are what men today would call intuitive. If still more sensitive, and have learned some of the laws whereby you have educated the Soul to a more sensitive state, you are what they call Mediumistic. As an illus- tration of the various states of receiving thought promptings, take the real material man first. He is keyed to the lowest vibration of all. The only thoughts he has, is when something presents itself distinctly before him. Some one or more of his five senses, have got to present it to him before he catches the vibration, and then oftentimes laughs the next day after the point has been made. And then bear in mind, if there is any reasoning to be used at all, the point will never reach him. Then comes one who is keyed next higher, and the thought is prompted by the first intimation received by any one of the five senses. A hint, so to speak, is sufficient. Then comes the woman. She does not have to see, hear, touch, taste or smell ; but the moment one comes in her presence, she says, "John, don't have anything to do with that man." But John has not as yet suspicioned a thing and slowly asks, Why? Friends, this is Soul to Soul vibration, and with a knowledge of, and cultivated, becomes mental telepathy, and I say to you all, (? the day is not far distant when telegraph lines will be done away with, and mental telegraphy used in its stead. They are already using the wireless telegraph, and the mental telegraph is next. Then comes next the Medium. Developed by patient labor, so they even hear the voices from the psychic plane. A development that affords oftentimes much pleasure, and then again to be despised. The chief objection one can have to this form of devel- opment, is that most persons when developed to this extent, think they have reached the topmost round, and there is no need of further develop- ment or effort. To them, this is the Christian's so-called Heaven. But my dear readers, not so. You have only stepped out of the first octave, and there is just as bad vibration there, as on the physi- cal plane, and if anything more dangerous, as you are not so well acquainted there as on the earth, and you at once put too much confidence in what those disembodied Souls tell you. Many think this is not a fact, as regards the hearing from the Higher planes, and scoff at the idea: But it is only because you do not know, and too low-keyed in vibration to try to find out. It is a wise saying that "Wise heads always keep close counsel." and to those who are keyed too low to ^ 56 catch the point there, one would have to exprc thus. That the man who docs not know, had bet- ter keep his mouth closed. There is one more class of sensitives on this Earth plane not as yet mentioned, which should not be lost sight of, as at some time in the future, they will prove of greatest benefit to mankind, and that is the one who catches the vibration from the mere touch, in other words the Psychometrist. She takes the pebble from the brook, and from the mere sense of touch, gives you a complete history of its formation and wanderings. A piece of plastering from the walls of your room, and gives you a full and complete history of the inhabitants of that room, and all that ever took place therein. And now I hear again, I cannot believe it. Only another case of you do not know, and only time, not words will prove it to you, Now, if you will review care- fully the vibrations we have just gone over, that are the prompters of thought in mankind, you will have observed, that they all originated formerly with man. Even the Medium, who thinks she is talking direct with the heavenly world, is only hearing the thought vibration of men, who were only a short time before, men on this earth, and perhaps too ignorant to carry on an ordinary conversation, in 57 & the most ordinary language. Friends, all the thoughts we have just been discussing is only the Shadow of the real, Truths today, and falsehoods tomorrow. The real truth does not come from man, and it seems, after having gone over it so carefully, you can see at a glance where man began to deviate from the real God-given truth, and be- gan formulating for himself ! and it seems to me, if I as a teacher would teach men how to raise them- selves from this lowly condition, and state, into which they have fallen, unto truth, and regaining of lost estate, it is imperative upon me to show to my students what the so-called Adam did, that con- stituted the fall. And it seems I have told it over so many times in this lesson, even those keyed to the lowest vibration, would get the thought by saturation if in no other way. And now you ask how can I get the truth? The vibrations that prompt the thought of truth, come only from the Spirit plane, and one can only receive it by a thorough preparation. Our lesson previous to this told you what one must do to be a Candidate for Initiation, and summing it all up in the fewest of words, would say, Conquer every one of your five senses, and make them do your bidding, instead of you theirs. Conquer every emotion, strangle every passion in 58 =^v its incipiency, master every thought that pa through your mind, and those not for your good, cast out, and do not entertain for an instant. And after having done all this, then know that God will prompt the thought that He would send to you, by the vibrations, that will come from the things He has created on this earth, as your open book. But as an assistant, that you may analyze these things and not let your five senses lead you astray, He has endowed you with Reason, a Spiritual gift, and prompter of the truth. As against the Spirituality of the gift, stands a creation of yours, whose name is Selfishness. He is a monster, and if you are even tainted with untruth, he will rule the Reason, rather than Spirit, and you fail. But there is an assistant to Reason, and a very reliable one, and always invite his opinion, even if the question is of but slight proportion. The as- sistant I mean is Conscience. He is ever with you, and often speaks when you do not want to hear him. But if you would live the life of truth, you will ever have to obey that voice that speaks through the heart, and oftentimes sharper than a two-edged sword. Live so it does not have to speak, is the best advice I could give to mankind. Reason, and conscience, will both have to be used B9 ^ on both the physical and psychic plane ; but when you have attained unto the Spiritual plane, and the prompting comes direct and not through any mani- festation, then you know, because you know. A friend ever a friend. No more parting, and God will wipe away all tears. 60 LESSON III. Why Should I Preserve My Body and How May I? ^^HIS is a question that probably very few, if ^** any, have ever given any very serious thought or consideration. They seem to take it as a sort of matter of fact, that they have got it, and they will use it any way they choose; and they do, and as a result of the manner in which the body is used, in an average of less than half the number of years allotted to man, they have to part with it. The principal use most men can see the body is for, is for the purpose of doing the varieties of labor, that the physical man may be called upon to perform, whereby he earns a livelihood. Aside from that, and the pleasures he enjoys by being in possession of the various parts, and faculties, there is nothing further he can think of. Most men seem to think their bodies are machines of perpetual motion, and should not tire, break, or even wear out, and are ^ ^v always living in hopes some act of Divine Provi- dence, will assist them in evading violations of law. Solomon said, "The fear of the Lord is the begin- ning of wisdom." Men read that over and over again, but still do not comprehend its great import, and instead of profiting by the wise counsel, keep right on violating, and then when the price has to be paid for the violation they have committed, then they pray, Oh, so earnestly, for God Almighty to change his laws, whereby they may become exempt from paying the penalty. And then they wonder why God does not hear and answer prayer. "Oh, Consistency; thou art a jewel !" Then again there is a law that is almost as fixed as the stars, that any- thing obtained without a price, is without a value, hence, health, which can only be obtained through a perfect body, is of no value until a price has to be paid for it. So in most instances, health is sacrificed, for pleasure or amusement of emotion, and gratifica- tion of appetitesand passions, and when too late the possessor of the once perfect body, finds he is de- void of all happiness on this Earth plane, as he has no health nor can he obtain it, as he has violated the law so many times, some vital organ has had to yield to the strain. Vital organs can not be repro- duced in a physical body, no matter how expert the 62 ^v physician in charge. Functional disturbances may be corrected, vital disease never cured. Hence he has sacrificed happiness, for true happiness can only come through a perfect body. But, men seem to travel in this world blindfolded, and do not seem to come to a sense of understanding until too late. Did any one of you ever take a degree in any secret order? If you did, were you not blind-folded when you first entered the lodge room for initiation ? Did you not receive the lesson then, of the same condition that exists in the great lodge of Human Existence, or life on this Physical Plane? When you entered the lodge room, should you have chanced to stumble over some obstruction, the attendant would have said they are obstructions to bar your progress in the order. He did not say to you though, that he was really teaching you a lesson, whereby you could profit in your every day life, and learn from the experience you were receiv- ing at the time, that you were already a candidate for initiation in a greater lodge than most men are able to comprehend, and you were only advanced to the blindfold part, and was as yet bumping over the obstructions, because as yet you could not see. Do you now see the lesson that is taught to all men, when they first enter a lodge of any kind for initiation? Let me now say to you, and with emphasis, such lessons do not come by chance. There is no such thing as chance. All things are according to fixed laws, and there is not even a lodge in existence today, but that is full of God's Symbols and lessons, all pointing to one great and grand lesson, "Man Know Thyself.'" The plan- ning of these hidden and secret lessons, as you see in lodge rooms, were not by men, as most men think, but by higher authority, with one great thought ever in view, that men might see, and come to a sense of understanding, whereby they might regain their lost estate, due to what men in all ages have chose to call the fall of man. Men formerly lived 600, 800 and nearly to one thousand years of age. Now the allotted time for man is three score years and ten, and great mention made by all newspapers, should one chance to live to reach the hundred mark. Now as we look back, and reason on the question, I ask all, are we gaining in our sense of seeing things, or are we becoming more and more blind? If men in former times lived nine hundred and sixty nine years, why cannot we? If men in any day of this world could overcome death, why cannot we? St. Paul, in 1st Corinthians 15:26, says, "The last enemy that 2^ shall be destroyed is death." If we believi single word St. Paul says, we must believe it all. I for one, believe it all, and know it is true. If you will read John, and as though he were speaking the word of God, as it was by the prompting of the Spirit that he spoke, when speaking to the churches in the second chapter of Revelations, 4th verse he says, " Nevertheless, I have somewhat against thee, be- cause thou hast left thy first love." 7th verse: "He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God." The 1 ith verse says, "He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death." 17th verse: "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth, saving he that receiveth it." 26th verse: "And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations, and I will give him the Morning Star, etc., etc. Friends, John has said something, and what does it all mean? Have you ever considered this for a single instant? Can you not see that we are placed here on this earth, as a 6a ^v Soul clothed in a body that has five senses, and that the real purpose of our being projected to this Physical Plane, was to overcome the temptations of a physical life? Have you not learned before in our lessons, that our bodies were made up by the Elemental forces, and the five senses were a part of the physical body, and were the means by which the Elemental forces directed that body, and stirred the soul to emotion? Do you understand these five senses must have a governor, so they will not mis- lead the Soul, and by so doing destroy both Soul and body? Do you now see that we can not gain the rewards John offers, until we have accom- plished what is required of us, from this Earth Plane? Do you recognize, that sickness is only a war between the elements of your body? Do you know that when the elemental forces are directing your Soul, that the Spirit, the only source of proper instruction is absolutely passive? Can you now see that you are not placed on this earth, merely for the purpose of hording up money, and having a heap of fun as most men say? Do you see there is a use for your body, beyond and of far greater im- portance than you had ever dreamed of? Now, man is made up of physical substance called a Body, a Soul, and a Spirit. The body is on the outer 66 ^ side. The Soul is on the inner side. The Spirit is within the within, and is the Spirit or Christ, if you phase, the pure essence of the Almighty. The Soul stands between this Divine Spark, and the elemental world, which manifests itself through the five senses. This Soul by itsown choice to make the overcomings of the elemental forces, was placed between the two, on this Physical plane, the five senses representing the elemental forces, the Spirit representing the God element, and ever ready to prompt the Soul, as to what is right and wrong, through the conscience and reason. This body of yours was given to the Soul by the Almighty, and then God Almighty takes part possession of the body, but inasmuch as the Almighty is Creator of all, it must necessarily all belong to Him. St. Paul in I. Corinthians, 3rd Chapter, 16 verse says, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" 17th verse says, "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy, for the temple of God is holy, which tem- ple ye are." Again in Corinthians 6:19 Paul says, "What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" Friends, do you see my argument is in exact accord with the 67 & teachings of St. Paul? Do you doubt what he says? If not, you must accept what I say, and no getting around it. Do you now see God gave you your body, simply for a dwelling place for the Soul, that it might have the chance of trying to overcome the temptations of this physical life, and nothing else? As a matter of fact, you must care for, and provide for the body, and those dependent upon you, but at the same time, while doing the labor required of you to earn a livelihood, you have no right to abuse that body of yours in any way, or to get it out of harmony with itself. For the Spirit of God is within that body, and is ever trying to help you to overcome the tern ptations, that are your Soul testers, so to speak, that your every day life, and business cares, are constantly bringing to you. I have men- tioned in my teachings time and again, all these over- comings, and also the rewards, as was promised by God, through John, if you would only make them. Do you think John was only jesting to mankind when he said these things? Do you not think they were meant for you and me? If men in John's time had to make these overcomings, why not we? Do we not constitute one of those seven churches, John was speaking to? Are your ministers in the churches teaching this to you? & 68 /^ If not, why not? If so, why are you not doing what they tell you? Have you really woke up yet, so as to see what your real duty is, and do you yet see what your body is really for? St. Paul Bays, "If ye defile the temple, him will I destroy." Is that not as much to say, If you do not defile it, it is yours to use as long as you choose to use it as an abiding place for your Soul? Now it seems to me, I have said sufficient in this place to prompt you, to a desire to know something of your self, and the law by which you can preserve the Temple of God, "which Temple ye are," and which in the past you have been taught was only your physical body, and nothing else, and you had a right to do with it as you chose. But, alas! Only another man-made opinion, and oh! how far from the truth. Even in the churches, where God's Laws are supposed to be taught, why have they not told you what this body of yours is for? Have the Ministers of the Gospel failed to comprehend what both St. Paul, and John have been telling you for the past thousand years and more? But still the same old story, The blind leading the blind, and trying to climb up by some short cut, that would require no effort on your part, except that you obeyed the laws of your country, and the law itself soon teaches ^v you that, without a tutor. St. Paul says, "Ye are bought with a price, and are not your own. " Now a part of the price that you are to pay, is to bring this body of yours under subjection, and not let it be ruled by your instinctive nature, rather than by the law of God, whose agent the Spirit, or the Christ is within you, and is ever prompting you, or ready to, providing you will let it. If you ever attain unto higher knowledge, or become a Chris- tian if you please, you have got to learn these very things I have pointed out to you, and have got to find this innermost essence, the Spirit, and recog- nize it, and put down this emotional and passionate nature. I say to you and with emphasis, that only by the aid of this Spirit essence, can you make the overcomings that you have got to make, before you are freed from the trials of an earth life, hence the truth of the saying of Jesus Christ, that only through the Christ can your Soul gain immortality. With a perfect body, and in perfect harmony with itself, come the greatest advantages one can have, for finding the Spirit, and as I have said many times in my lessons, I now once more repeat, that whenever I use the word Spirit, I have reference to the Divine Essence or the Christ that exists in all men, and never do I mean any disembodied Soul, 70 fr of some so called chad man, lor I do not consider the Soul knows any more out of the body, than it did when it was in its body, ^m\ then again, Truth only comes from ( rod through the medium of Spirit, and unless you find the Spirit while yet in this body, the chances are another earth life for you, and possibly many, and with possibly far less advan- tages for gaining knowledge, than you have in the present one, hence, if you would do what the Almighty designed you should, you will take the greatest care possible of your body, and the moment you feel the least inharmony going on within, begin at once to study, to find out if possi- ble what law you have violated, for surely you have violated some law, and by so doing, committed some sin against yourself and God. Many do not seem to think that when they have brought some sickness upon themselves, they have committed any sin; but I ask you, what did Jesus Christ mean, when he said, "Go and sin no more," after the healing of every sickness he ever performed? Was sin any different in those days than at the present time? Do you want to believe something that applies to the other man, and because it applies to you, try to evade it? Possibly you may by practice seer your conscience over for the pres- ent, and let that hero, Selfishness, step in and excuse you for the time being, but the time will come, when your iniquities will find you out, and the gen- eral summing up of all will come and "Then you will know." I now anticipate the question in ad- vance, supposing that I have not known these laws and have allowed my body to become diseased, how may I once again become in harmony, and re- main so? To which I answer, before you can stop the effect, you must first know the cause, as there is no effect without a cause, and no cause without effect. The price has always got to be paid, hence the wise saying of Solomon, when he said, " The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." When mankind can learn that there is a price to be paid for every violation of the laws of God and Nature, and he profits by his Knowledge, and makes no more violations, he has received the first gift of the Spirit, Wisdom. Now, we should begin to see why we have been sick. What was the cause, that we may not violate the law again? To go back to our former lessons, we learn the five senses were the cause of man's loss of true knowledge in the beginning. By his loss of true knowledge, and the substitution of his own, sickness, misery, and death, was the price. The same exists today as of 72 fr yore, and the five senses are the causes still of man's troubles, sickness, vice, misery, destruction and death. These great gifts, as you call them, the senses, are the monsters that are making the troubles, or causes of all your mistakes, or sins. Will you begin to recognize, and fight against the cause or not? That is the only question. Now I hear the question, How does any of my five senses make me do wrong, or produce sickness in me? How about your taste? Do you ever eat more than you ought simply because it tastes well? Do you know the Soul, the great Alchemist that stands within your body, and transmutes the various foods put into the stomach, into the various tissues, can only utilize just so much, in the building of your body, and no more? Can you not see that any surplus simply clogs the machine, and a very com- plicated piece of machinery at that? Do you real- ize that the large majority of physical diseases are simply the result of over eating, or gluttony? Did you ever eat anything, your common sense alone, would tell you not to, but your taste urged you on, and you repented at your leisure, possibly at the end of a long illness, and then do the same right over again? Yes, you did, and many never will profit by the lesson either, even though 73 't * v sickness is always the price paid for the viola- tion, and a large Doctor's bill thrown in. And the sense of taste did it. And now let me ask you, did you ever hear anything that put you all out of harmony, and possibly brought on a prolonged ill- ness of nervous disease, which has required time to recover from, and possibly never will be ? What did it? That sense of hearing. And now, how about the eye-sight? Did you ever see anything that got you angry, jealous, morose, sorrowful, over joyful, and in fact, any condition that really produced an inharmony within you? What did it? Just the eye-sight. How about the sense of touch? Did you ever know of any one getting hold of anything, that aroused the emotional nature to such an extent, that they forgot to let go, and leave it where it belonged? Money oftentimes, produces such an effect on the sense of touch, that many men are invited to the gallows, or electric chair to pay the price of the violation of the law, and physicians are of not much account either for their benefit, after the entertainment is over. I would now say, of the great variety of dis- eases, they resolve themselves into just three divisions. One of the physical body alone, one of the Soul alone, and one of both Soul and body. 4 For one to be a true physician, to assist and cure mankind of the various ills man lias become licir to, he must be born one, as true physicians arc not made, any more than an Avatar or a Messiah. He must understand thoroughly in which one of these divisions to classify the disease he is called upon to treat, and how to apply his remedies as will be explained later in the lesson. If you are to try to care for yourself, so you will not become sick, by careful study you will observe, that most of the diseases of the body alone, come directly through the sense of taste, and the failure on your part in ruling it, instead of the taste ruling you. This class of diseases, if not allowed to con- tinue long, is cured by physical remedies, as is given by physicians, who have a proper knowledge of the use of drugs, and their application to the disease in question. The next one in order to call your attention to is the Soul diseases. They all come as a result of the five senses, working upon the Soul or emotional nature, until gradually the individuality of the Soul is put in abeyance, and sometimes completely lost for a time, and quite frequently for this whole life. The majority of the inmates of asylums, are of this class of disease, Soul disease. Most epileptics are of this class. All n 4/ cases of morphine addiction are Soul disease. All alcholics are primarily of this class, and then gradually become both Soul and body. The reason why which can be given. All so-called neurosthenics are purely soul disease, which will be further explained when taking up the various plans of treatment, for freedom. There are many more that could be mentioned that is solely of this class, but sufficient has been said to show you, the class of patients who are suffering with Soul disease, and the treatment should be according, and as you can plainly see, they are not calling for all sorts of drugs and nostroms. When the Soul disease has developed a physical one in addition, then, is required, both the means of cur- ing a physical disease, and a Soul disease. We will now take up the various means of as- sisting, and curing disease, in the physical body, for as we have not known in the past, of the real ne- cessity of keeping this body of ours in a perfect condition, we must now remedy the defects, and from this time on, seek to preserve our body, so we may enjoy perfect health, in the hope, that we may yet in the present physical life gain the knowledge sufficient to reap the reward, that was the Soul's sincere desire in being projected into a physical 76 =*v life, The means used at the present time to heal the sick arc various, and all have more or 1< ss truth connected with them, yet not having the whole truth, and applied as an exact science, fall wide of the mark, and as a result in many instances, any one special system may become worse than useless. I shall endeavor to show my readers, some things that will at least give them points whereby they can reason some, if not able to gather absolutely the whole truth. In the first place, when man lost the true knowledge, and began to use his own opinions, which was based upon selfishness, he at once began making mistakes, and as I have said before, there is a price to pay for every violation of law, hence, as violations of law against the physical body began, sickness, and disease was the price. As man had lost the knowledge, whereby he could take advantage of the forces of nature direct as they were radiated from the heavens, there was no alternative, but to do as Moses had said he would have to, in Genesis 3:17-18 verses, where it says, "Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of the wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground for thy sake ; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life. Thorns, also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herbs of the field." Thus you see, as man had lost the knowledge whereby he could live, only by the use of the products the earth could bring forth, and that cursed to him, it was neces- sary that he should resort to the herbs of the field, in order that he might increase certain forces, that by lack of knowledge he had exhausted in his body, that was producing sickness, or that he might add certain forces, whereby they might counteract forces he had accumulated in abundance, that might also be producing sickness. As there are seven specialized forces in the body, so are there radiated from the heavens, seven special forces, and these forces are stored in plants, with some one of the seven predominant. Man by observa- tion, soon came to the understanding of the laws of the planets in the heavens, and also of their vibrating forces, and also that certain plants had stored in them special forces or vibrations, corres- ponding with the vibration of a certain planet, and now recognizing the cause producing the inharmony in him, he selects the plant that will give to him such force as he is in need of, to supply deficiency, or such force as will counteract such forces, as he {? may have a superabundance of. Thus you will at once, what truth lies in either, or any of the systems of treatment of disease by drug medication: At one time right, and cures, the next time wrong, and kills. Allopathy right one time, and Homoeo- pathy wrong, and the next vice-versa. So the advantage to the patient stands a little on the homoeopathy side, unless the physician is trying to use both systems, and then he is quite liable to kill sure, and the patient has but little chance. Furthermore, you can plainly see, none of the systems of medicine of today, depending upon drug medication, have the first principle of a Science connected with them, and any reasoning man, knows that no man is exactly alike any two days at a time, hence the drug that may assist him today, may kill tomorrow, and unless the physician in attendance, knows the heavens, sufficient to know the cause of man's inharmonies, he is not qualified to practice the healing art among mankind. This is rather harsh to say, and I am well aware it will strike like a thunderbolt among the profession, but my dear brother practitioners, I am "speaking by the card" and know whereof I speak, and am very sorry to say I practiced the old school system of practice of medicine for nearly twenty-five years 79 before I woke up, but I finally dreamed it out, and now after having come to my senses, if the Good Lord will only forgive the many mistakes, I must certainly have made, and I made no more than any of the rest, I will faithfully promise to do all in my power in the future, to enlighten the medical profession and save them if possible, from making any more mistakes than I did. Having the know- ledge I do now of the planets in the Heavens, and knowing the laws of correspondences between man and them, I can now fully appreciate the meaning of what Hippocrates said, when he made the state- ment, That the man who tried to practice medicine, without a knowledge of Astrology, was more eligible to the title of fool than Physician ; also of Culpepper, who said, The man who tried to practice medicine without a knowledge of Astrology, was like trying to burn a lamp without oil. Paracelsus did not stop with any where near so genteel lan- guage towards the profession, but virtually cursed them outright for their dishonesty in dealing with men, and thus engendered their enmity for all time, even to the present day. But, sufficient to say, medicine as it is practiced today is no science, and can only become one, by the physician learning that mankind is in harmony, or should be, with the so ^ vibrations of the planets in the heavens, and that the forces stored ill plants, herbs and even minerals, are only the stored vibrating forces of these planets in the heavens, and sickness or inharmony in the man, is only an excess or too little of the vibrating forces of nature, and proper prescribing, consists in selecting the forces stored in plants, according to the patients needs and requirements, as told by the scheme of the heavens, cast at the time of the beginning of patients' illness. This is the only way in which drug medication can become a science, and after it has, then bear in mind further, you have only as yet found a means of treating one division of three different classes of diseases men- tioned in the preceding part of the lesson, and that is the physicial body alone. In conjunction with these seven forces from nature, to assist in curing the physical body disease, we have the inorganic assistants, or what is called the inorganic salts of the system, just twelve in number, and correspond- ing to the twelve builders in the sky or twelve constellations. They- are mentioned by John the Revelator, in Revelations, 22nd chapter 1st and 2nd verses, saying, "And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and ^v the Lamb. In the midst of the stream of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruits every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." Here are your twelve builders, and they go hand in hand with the vital forces stored in the plant, and are really the brick and mortar used in the building of the physical man, while the seven forces of Nature combined, as a whole, constitute the workman. The brick and mortar of no consequence without the workman, neither can the workman do without material to do with. These twelve inorganic salts have found their way into use by the profession, and known as the Tissue Salts, or Biochemic System of Medicine. But as is common with man, he had to stop a little short of the whole truth, in their use, and consider them the whole thing, instead of only material for the builder to work with, and as the builder was so often deficient in strength, the structure was not rebuilt as predicted it would be by their use, even when the materials were supplied, and thus the system must show a lack of perfection, and gradually come into dis- repute, when so near the truth, and besides, a perfectly harmless system of medicine, for curing 82 /? =5\ the one classification of disease, the body alone. Electricity is being used to a considerable extent at the present day, for the relief of Physical ills, but in the same manner as all the other systems of treatment, without any basis of reasoning in its application. The physician simply uses it, and more for the reason that it makes an impression upon the mind of his patient, and he collects one dollar for the treatment, than for the reason that the patient derives any benefit. Sometimes the patient does derive benefit, just as many times he does not. Why? Because the physician never takes into consideration, that he is using a sun force, whenever he is using it, neither does he take into considera- tion, whether his patient has an excess of electric force already, or too little. If the patient has an excess, he is certainly made worse, if too little, properly applied, the patient will receive benefit. If you are to use magnetic force, or magnetism instead of electricity, take the same question into consideration, but consider the moon influence, rather more than the sun. The use of colored glass in the treatment of disease, is equally, if not more efficacious than any of the drug remedies, if one understands the vibrations of the heavens as they correspond with man, in health and disease. u 4 ft ^ The force of any planet can be radiated to the man, to increase deficiency, or to counteract excess of planetary vibration, the patient may contain that is producing inharmony, or sickness. If you do not believe it, put a hot feverish patient in a blue room, under a blue ray of sunshine, or a melan- cholic patient under a red ray, or the low vibrating negative tissue of cancer, with no intervening tissues to break the vibrations, under the violet ray, if you please, and note the results. And now we come to another system of treatment of disease, that is becoming very popular, and will be more so in the near future, and the Old Schools of Medicine are already beginning to smell powder in the near distance, and are working hard through state law enactments, to hold the enemy to their pocket- books in check. But my dear Brother Doctors, you will have to see the errors of your teachings, the same as the Ministers and Churches, for the Spirit of Truth has come, and Truth will prevail in this Aquarian age, inspite of all the howls you can put up, so the only thing you can do, is to go to work, and get Truth from every source you can, and use it. The more you fight a thing, the stronger it becomes, so if you would have the Old Schools of practice dropped entirely, keep on fighting the 84 Deacidified using the Bookkeeper process.
