M± Men of Massachusetts i^ A COLLECTION OF PORTRAITS OF REPRESENTATIVE MEN IN BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS. J^ BOSTON 1902 PUBLISHED UNDER THE EDITORIAL AUSPICES AND DIRECTION OF THE BOSTON PRESS CLUB. I Printed at the Art Printing Works of Skinner, Kiddeb & Co., Boston, Mass. p. rr- INTRODUCTION. IN presenting to the public this collection of photo- graphs of " Men of Massachusetts," the Boston Press Club has departed somewhat from the system followed by publishers of similar works. Its aim is to secure the photographs of those men only who have achieved prominence in their chosen professions or business. "Merit" and not "money" is the passport to a place among those selected. It will be noticed that there are no biographical sketches, no fulsome eulogies. The editors have exercised such care in the selection of names that it is hoped the gentlemen whose photographs are requested will appreciate the honor which has been done them in permitting them to be classified as the representative men in their respective professions or business. Their names are known to the public and it is the desire ot the Boston Press Club that their faces may become as familiar as their names. The Boston Press Club. Boston, March i, 1902.
