The town is situated on a slender island, extending from Barnegat southward twenty-one miles to Egg Harbor Inlet ; washed on the eastern side by the ocean and on the other by beautiful Little Egg Harbor Bay, whose sheltered waters six miles iij width separate the island from the mainland. ,'T^e: Baldwin is the only hotel at this place sur- rounded by its own grounds and having an unob- structed view of l)oth ocean and bay. The Pennsylvania R. R. bridges the bay four miles > C^.^k CK-UVuL/'i THE EXCHANCiE above Beach Haven, running through trains, with Pull- man service, in two hours from Philadelphia ; and from New York by connection with the Central R. R. of New Jersey and the Pennsylvania, in two and one-half hours. Beach Haven is a resort for refined people ; besides churches, drug and other stores there are upwards of loo private cottages, and season after sea- son, many well-known residents of the larger cities make it their summer home. There are no "side shows," meiTy-go-rounds, dance pavilions, music lialls, or anything else to attract OKK KOR A DAY'S FISHING and hold the excursion element. For women and chil- dren the place is an ideal one. The borough has recently installed the most im- proved type of acetylene gas plant, and much atten- tion has been given to making Beach Haven a well lighted town. The gas is also largel}' used for cooking purposes. Beach Haven has long been recognized as the leading resort for lovers of sailing and fishing. A sail of forty miles north to Bay Head, or Atlantic City eighteen miles south, without going "outside" on the Atlantic Ocean, tells part of the story of its attrac- HOMEWARD BOUND tiveness to the yatchsnian ; and the long-famous catches of fish, including Weak, Blue, Sheepshead, Bass and Rock, bear full testimony of its popularity for the angler. Crabbing parties and those in search of oysters and clams are fully rewarded by large catches. Boats for sailing and fishing can be had at all times in any number under the control of careful mas- ters, with fixed reasonable charges. Yachting on the bay can be indulged in by the most timid, absolute safety being assured ; a record of not one accident of any kind happening since the Beach Haven Yacht Club was formed some years ago warrants this state- DINING ROOM ment. For those who prefer the ocean, the run through the inlet to the open sea is all that can be desired. The sea bathing at Beach Haven is unsurpassed on the Atlantic coast, the beach being hard and clean, with a remarkably fine surf, perfecth' safe for women and children. The Baldwin bath houses and their attend- ants insure every comfort for the bather. For the guests of the Baldwin who prefer them, hot and cold sea water tub baths are provided. To the sufferers from Hay Fever, too much can not.be said of the advantages of Beach Haven for their relief, being six miles from the mainland and its dust. THK CAKE with entire absence of plant pollen, relief is always afforded and permanent cures have been numerous. To the thousands who have been cured or benefited by a stay at Beach Haven we refer for corroboration of this statement. The Hotel Baldwin, the largest and most thor- oughly equipped hotel in Beach Haven, is under the direct management of its owner, the Estate of Chas. T. Parry, and every detail which tends to making the guests comfortable will receive careful attention from those whose every interest is to make the Baldwin sus- tain its past excellent reputation. y^'^ ri *. HATHINC. IN FRONT OK THE KALDVVIN During the past winter extensive improvements have been made, in keeping with the policy of the own- ers to have a hostelry' thoroughly up-to-date, among which is the installation of several additional private baths supplied by a new system of plumbing carrying both fresh and salt water. THE UKACH erected, which insures an abundant quantity of excep- tion all)- pure water from two artesian wells each 600 feet in depth. This together with new furniture, a com- plete electric lighting plant, and the house thoroughly renovated, the coming season will be the greatest of the many successful ones the Baldwin has enjoyed. Special mention must be made of the extensive covered porches elevated ten feet from the ground, nine hundred feet long by sixteen feet wide, affording a most WATLHlNlr IHh. HAlHKkS delightful promenade and a charming view of both ocean and bay. The table and all that pertains to good living shall receive special attention, the management fully appreciating the importance of having proper food well served as a means of making permanent friends. Mud hens after September ist attract numbers of sportsmen, and Plover, Yellow Leg and Snipe in their season afford fine shooting. MISICAL— YACHT AND OT-X CLUB GROrNDS The Corinthian Yacht and Gun Club of Beach Haven, the membership of which is made up of many well known residents of the adjacent cities, has lately completed a spacious and handsome club house on grounds near by the Hotel. The club has as its chief purpose the promo- tion of yachting and gunning, but has done nuich to create an active interest in the many other pleasant features of the resort. The races and shooting tourna- ments scheduled for the coming summer will be well worth witnessing.
