Park in 1839, on the banks of the Missouri river. In the old boating days it became the most prosper- ous town between Brunswick and Weston. A large hotel and several stores were built of stone and hopes of rapid growth w^ere bright. The war and decay of river traffic which brought ruin, until in 1875 the roofs of some of the stores were fallen in and the hotel had been long unused. In that year Rev. John A. McAfee came to Park- ville by invitation of Col. Park, who gave the hotel 100 acres of land to found "A College for Christian Workers." Professor McAfee brought with him seventeen students who were formed into ' ' Park College Family. Of this organization he held, and his sons now hold, absolute control, while a Board of Trustees under Charter hold the property. This, now, 1895, consists of 1,000 acres of land, with the buildings, presented in this little book, and invested funds amounting to $150,000. The Family has grown from 17 to 350, and the improvements in town and college have been almost entirely the work of their hands. Two hundred and forty-five students have been graduated after a full college course, 1 18 of these were men and 79 of them have devoted themselves to the Gospel Ministry. Rev.
