Are you living the life of God and man! The psychic laws are clasping their hands, They are blending all life in harmonial strain, In which all shall waken to live again. Let thought be so pure untarnished and true That the deific centers unfold in you. Thus radiate life and love to man, And live divinely by Deity's plan. Life is stupendous in value to youth Its purpose unveiled will stand for truth ; It is just what you make it, if false or true, Awaken to life's value its teaching to you. THE PHILQSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE BY RICHMOND L. BISHOP I. When we become students of Nature we have opened the door of divine law and must first blend our lives with the smaller things of the universe. The hills, the vales, the streams, the trees, the birds and flowers are all varied expres- sions from one source of life, all harmonizing in Nature's law. The great unrest of the ocean, the seasons as they come and go, the order of the solar systems are manifestations of an infinite source, the symbols of progression. To blend life with these physical things of Nature is the first step in the attainment of harmony. The divine law of blending life 8 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE with all things in Nature is to love all things in Nature, for love is the life of God and the life of all that he has created. When life has become harmonized with the silent lan- guage of Deity's expressions, then is the foundation for truth builded. The natural avenues of attraction and expansion can be used by the physical body, when the laws governing expression have been complied with and become a forceful influence in life, which in turn is influenced by the individual in the blending of Nature and Deity. The ladder of progression is climbed round by round. The teachings of former ages made man superstitious, selfish, and antagonistic to all natural law, throwing his life upon the surface of events and making him a creature of circumstance. Man needs to be led by a natural science into Nature's divine principles so that the light of truth shall shine into his understanding and lead him out from the dark- ness of false doctrines which are but the result of ignorance and slavery. The problems of life are the subjects of all scientific research. In the physical kingdoms the visible manifesta- tions of nature have been successively traced and disclosed — yet through these orders and systems come always the question of "why," and "whither?" The man of science makes no answer, while the philosopher makes an attempt to reason either from external phenomena or interior conscious- ness — and in some way reconcile the mechanical theory with the more spiritual conception of formation and human experi- ence and its destiny. The theological systems long ago THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 9 failed of their purpose to explain the apparent perfection of heaven and the inequalities of earth, or to reconcile what appeared to the primitive nations as antagonistic powers. The perception of the eternal verities, the unvarying prin- ciples of harmony, the blending and interpenetration of spirit and matter in nature, the law of change, the phenomena of eternal progress through all forms, the perfect adaptation of all things to each other, of the one Power which lives in every atom and ceaselessly works toward the harmonious whole, — the perception of these universal laws have not been evident to either the external scientist, academic philosopher or theologian. The harmonial philosophy of nature's laws have not been fully recognized. The revelations of divinity as it operates through nature makes a twofold factor in the universe. The purpose of the School of Natural Science is to har- monize man with himself, with nature, and thus to lead him to the beholding of God. Blessed are the poor in heart for they shall see God ! When you have come in harmony with yourself, and har- monized yourself with God in Nature you have adjusted all your faculties, the physical, mental and spiritual, and har- mony will present itself as the gateway to Heaven. Then you have become in tune with the Infinite and in one-ness with the Father. You then can see God in all his manifes- tations in just the degree as you advance in the harmonial realization of Natural Science. The sunshine, the clouds, the atmosphere, the tempera- 1 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE tures are all playing an important part in every life, symbol- ically, mentally, spiritually, physically. On cloudy days a physical depression is usual. The atmosphere is dense, the individual vibration is lowered, the energy is lessened, and the brain which is the recorder of consciousness responds sympathetically to the bodily lassitude. The darkened skies are reflected in your own sensations, and life drops lower under these conditions. Spiritually you lose sight of the brightness which cannot be dimmed, and have yielded to the external shadow of a veiled landscape. In bright days the sunshine of life encom- passes you, and you answer back with your own bright looks. Your vibrations are quickened, your energy increased, your brain responds to the glory of light and the whole being is uplifted into brightness and harmony. The beautiful objects in nature are seen in their freshness, and Nature itself is shining through you, and you yourself radiate more life. While clouds and sunshine follow each other as surely as day and night, it does not equally follow that the individual who is a higher organism than the physical universe should be subject to these temporary changes, but should so harmo- nize his life with the enduring principles of spirit that he should ever be conscious of the divine light that is ever shining, and of his own power that cannot be dulled by dark days or unhappy events. Most surely health will result when Nature is understood in all her moods. The stepping stones to the larger realiza- tions of better manhood and womanhood are the little things THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 1 1 on every hand. When the awakening comes then the indi- vidual will begin his journey in life with more freedom, for he then emerges from the superficial boundaries into the broad and open avenues of Nature, where the revelations are to his soul and where Deity makes clear the salvation of man from the restrictions and the conditions which have been made through creedal laws and ignorance and which fetter the spirit and make weak the body. Scientists, sages, seers, philosophers, artists and poets are the ones to behold God's wisdom and truth. These gifted men and women are also revelations to the earth world, and are the mighty factors of the ages for the enlightenment of the world. The seers have told us to shut our eyes to the external appearances and see with the inner vision, thus be- holding the glory of the spiritual revelation. There have the seeds of God's wisdom been sown from time to time, through all ages for us to gather fruit in its season. All through the past has the music of Deity sounded for his children, and we now listen to its harmonies. We are to take the truths from here and there and bind them into one grand whole. We have been taught not to worship the stock of the rose but to appreciate its meaning in life as its face unfolds to you with the tenderness of love, the perfume of purity, with its delicacy of coloring from the master artist of all artists, Deity in Nature. You may have looked upon these various things in nature for years and have viewed only Nature's surface, living only in the stocks, weeds, and frame- work of life. Natural Science will bring you in touch with 1 2 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE the real life within, — that which appears to be is but mate- rial substance. When you are led into the temple of your own being, you will find that the real man or the real woman dwells within the outer form. While you cherish the body as a good house and well adapted for this existence it is the inner self that is to be cultivated; the life that never dies is the chief consideration. Pause for a moment and think! Look on these various expressions and truths. Has your inner sight been awakened ? Can you see the spiritual expression in all things? From the lowest atom to man is one continuous life element, one round of progression through the law of evolution. It is the essence of life we are gathering, that which lives and grows through all eternity. Power comes only through knowledge and wisdom. As we grow in closer relationship with life, power is added to us, and we reap our own. The gateway of eternity is the gateway of life. The materialistic life robs you of heaven while here upon earth. It also makes impossible to you the evidence of immortality that comes through the experience of seeing and living the life of the soul which is the spiritual expression in all that is universal. Why fear, why be lonely, why look with cowardice upon that which is not visible to the outer senses? Why dread the unknown to you, as a leap in the dark ! Fear is but ignorance, fear is but a mistaken mode of expression, both the result of an unenlightenment of the great harmonial law which opens its portals to all who seek for THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 1 3 truth. It is a wrong to yourself, or a sin, when you misuse any law of life. You may think your brother man will not discover your mistake or your intent, you may deceive your associates, but you never deceive the deity within yourself, for this is ever guarding the inner life and entering its protest against all thoughts and deeds that retard the true growth of that which is immortal. You may not understand why you are unhappy, even though you chose to do the act, you may not realize why unrest and fear breaks your nervous strength and you may rebel at the penalty you pay — but it is only the effect that justly follows a cause, and in the discord that results from your own inharmony with the true laws that govern your life. This life is too full of larger opportunities for you to be content with the lesser, and the sooner you will realize that divine content which should be your possession today as in a thousand years from today. Learn of Deity! The love of Deity is boundless — why not give love to Deity? It is your safeguard and guide in every walk in life, and will lead you into the realization of Nature's divinest principles. When you have stood uncertain at the cross roads, through lack of knowledge as to just the true direction have you not sensed this higher presence as it has tried to persuade you into the wiser choice, this loving voice of Deity as it would be- come your own controlling power? If you chose the smaller, earthly things, if you desired the seemingly attractive though less enduring, if through igno- rance of what is infinite in this life you submitted to the 1 4 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE weaker part of your nature, you have delayed your own growth and lessened your own development. You will remain blind until you awaken to God's mean- ing in this earthly expression, and find that you cannot begin at the fountain head and then learn backwards. A parent would not place a child in a college or univer- sity to learn the primary lessons — nor will the great universi- ties of deific principles open to the limited understanding of the stubborn, selfish, and wilful judgments of manhood and womanhood. It is the smaller things that lead to the ever widening avenues of thought, and the harmonial philosophy of Natural Science will unfold wisdom, even as from the alphabet lan- guage is constructed. Thus will the perfume of God's life be wafted from all the natural expressions and from the smaller things his love will flow continuously to the heights of your life. Thus you will become harmonized in yourself with all of God's manifestations as he first presents himself in the smallest of primary lessons. The higher growth will proceed by the law of evolution, until you will gain the power of apprecia- tion and see Deity and his ways in your knowledge of Nature. You will become a soul center and draw all things to yourself in just the degree as you have advanced. The rays of your own soul will permeate your physical body for health, strength, and happiness. Deity becomes the balanc- ing power. The key to heaven is placed in your hands. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 1 5 You now are related to the higher unfoldment, and by this law of attraction will find your friends in the same walk of life. You can attract not only health and friends, but a business prosperity that will be a source of satisfaction be- cause your life makes unselfish demands from a harmonious and spiritual elevation that desires truth and justice for all mankind. As a child of God, recognizing and living in the atmos- phere of everlasting principle the former mysteries have passed away. The dawn of the eternal life has shone upon you, the narrow pathways are left behind in their darkness, the old dogmas are as dust to you, and you have emerged into God's eternal sunshine. Your sympathies are enlarged and comprise the brother- hood of man, and the sisterhood of woman in this father- hood of God, and you reach out to those living on the higher plane while you hold out the helping hand to the less for- tunate who will stay in the lower pathway. Your soul is cleansed of malice and flows to the ignorant in a helpful loving justice, and is as a beacon light to the souls that are farther down the ladder of life. You have now your own power through life's experience. The armor of your own protection is about you. Deity has provided that in Nature. This is in contrast to fear, — fear is the lash that has been used by those who assumed authority in religion, and who sought control of mankind. It has been held over the world by many churches, cults, and scientists, and is but a gauzy 1 6 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE excuse, a compelling power over the ignorant, a false explana- tion that has concealed ignorance of Deity's laws and the meaning of life. From plane to plane, throughout earthly life, and all eternity, both in earth and spirit life stands Deity with his protecting laws between you and the ignorant souls. All his laws are perfect. Do not remain in ignorance longer. Sal- vation comes through education and through this harmonial philosophy of Nature you can repel all you may, but you will yet find yourself as one soul center and some day will be obliged to comply with Nature's laws, the laws of God which dwell in all things and are unceasing in their processes. You have then become a universal being, recognizing all of God's laws and privileges. You have no more criticism upon life, you have been touched by the love of Deity and have felt the influx of your own divine higher being, and are moving on to higher expressions in life. Progression has no stopping place. Its advance is eternal. It opens our eyes to the higher truths, and unfolds the infinite manifestations. It has caused the scientists of this age to ask the question, "What is life?" and from their material investigations no decisive answer has come. Nature's principles teach us that Life is the sequence of divine love, the love that moves and animates all elements, and that is the mighty power of the soul. It is the magnet in the expression of life, the vitality of the soul that man can develop to unlimited possibilities after he has once awakened to the use and purpose of its motive power. Deity ever THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 1 7 guides us by his impersonal principles into the expression of his own likeness. In my father's house are many mansions — and when you are living in harmony with the father, you have already entered one of these mansions. Life ever leads into the broader pathways of universal understanding. Thus it will bear us onward and upward through all eternity, becoming a fuller realization of the law of evolution. Through these avenues of progression a child and student of nature is taught the meaning of life. This is Nature's method of instruction through experience. Be assured that Natural Science will reveal these living princi- ples and awaken you to the definition of Nature's uses, and the heritage of the immortal spirit. It is a truth that in order to attract all things that are best in life you must make life a thing of beauty and find the earthly life a reflection of heavenly benefits. Every act of life must be based on the foundation of truth and justice, and if you stand firmly on the foundation of truth you will be just, as an unfailing result. An application of these principles would overturn the pres- ent conditions of life, but it will come to the highest and the lowest through time and the immutable law of progression. Truth has been subverted and misused for selfish purposes throughout all the ages, yet through its ever living, ever loving light man is beginning to see more clearly and recog- nize it as a divine revelation, a guide to all mankind. It is as his dearest friend advising him always to walk in the high places of nature, telling him he must first be true to himself, 1 8 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE admonishing him that only by truth can error be outlived, encouraging him to the knowledge that the supreme power of manhood can rise to the heights only through steadfastness to truth, and ever accompanied by this eternal principle will he advance with firm step to the gateway of the garden of life, where his soul will more joyfully arise within him in fuller appreciation and expand in tender love of all existence. Life is but a garden of good things prepared by Deity, through which he has echoed and re-echoed all that is beauti- ful for every life. When the curtain of materialism has fallen from you then will you behold this wonderful expanse in all its beauty, the universal garden in which you dwell. Your whole organism will thrill with love of your own higher self, which you have now through Nature's unvarying laws. You have now your own soul center and have saved yourself from the dark ages of ignorance. You no longer have to struggle with inhar- mony and injustice, for you have been lifted by the great arm of the merciful principles of God's love from the lower walks of darkness and misunderstanding into the light of self, which is self salvation. Heaven is approaching, earth is receding, and though you still are in the earthly life the lower environments have lost their influence and virtue, and you are sheltered safe by the brooding wings of peace and love. Harmony is yours. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 1 9 II. To love the world and all its expressions in accordance to Nature's laws, is to love God. To transgress this law is to suffer, and to suffer means that the angel of mercy has awakened you, that you may retrace every step of transgres- sion and arrive back at the temple of Truth. To love the law that governs all manifestations in earth, is to love progression. This is your mission in the earthly experience, and this experience is to individualize you, to mold and form your life by the highest principles of spiritual knowledge. The Philosophy of Natural Science is the guiding teacher through which you learn these great natural laws, the laws that save man from dwarfed and enfeebling conditions which he grows into through ignorance of the higher principles. After you have achieved the mastery of self and grow into 20 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE the spiritual illumination that follows the harmonious govern- ment of the soul, the earth world will seem small while life will expand into illimitable possibilities. In this individualization you become more and more con- scious of the inner self and the true part you are playing in life. It is as if you are two persons dwelling in an inner and an outer world, and you will commune together, and reason consciously. This is the spirit-self training the physical self. In this way you advance in wisdom and power, blending your forces together. The spiritual and the material are speeding on to higher conditions in which individuals will be God-men and God-women, masters of the laws of life, teachers to inspire those who are struggling upward. The great white curtain of life will be drawn aside, and you will be permitted to know the so-called mysteries of the spiritual plane. Angels of this sphere will guide you, and you will be baptized in the fountain of God's love, wisdom, and truth. The upward trend of life is bliss and in the assuming of greater responsibilities, greater development will be added to you. Fear has then been outgrown, and its destructive qualities are of the past. You then have been cleansed of appetites and habits; wickedness and wrongdoing have no power over you, and you will have graduated from the lower environment into the higher knowledge of all that is universal. You have earned this growth, you then are strong, brave, and fearless, yet kind, unassuming and patient. All evil has lost THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 2 1 its hold, and dropped to the valley of ignorance. Thy eternal light will ever shine in thy pathway. Physical constitutional tendencies as well as general tem- peramental characteristics are transmitted from parents to children through many generations. These hereditary weak- nesses are the result of error in the lives of one's ancestors. These local weaknesses in the system will manifest themselves more and more as the years go on, unless these laws of Nature are studied and a systematic effort is made to over- come them. All violations of the physical laws are recorded in the individual constitution whether it is the result of in- herited tendencies, or of personal carelessness and ignorance. A weakened body is susceptible to disease, and much more readily yields to attacks of illness than a body that has firm- ness and organic strength. Yet, such are the wonderful curative agencies in nature, such magnetic and mechanical aids in the bodily functions, such wisdom in the arrangement and construction of the bones, nerves, muscles, tissue, such perfect adaptation and relationship to all the beautiful powers living principles in all nature, that recuperation is the constant order of life. Natural Science teaches you how to reconstruct and how to build up a strong body, how to keep well, and how to govern the hereditary laws for the benefit of the succeeding genera- tions and thus establish the blessing of health as a universal heritage. These conditions can be brought about only from an in- 22 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE tellectual point of view. We must deal with error in regard to health the same as we would with all other errors. All violation of the laws of nature that control the physi- cal body must be corrected, and the body must be adjusted to its own governing laws. Nature ever teaches you to be obedient children to its laws, and it awakens you to your own possibilities. It is only through ignorance that the Past has taught you to cast your physical and spiritual burdens upon others, and it is from these teachings, that a demand caused physicians of different schools, and theologians of different denomina- tions to satisfy the peculiar ideas regarding the physical and spiritual affairs of life. In wandering through these entanglements, which are all the result of misunderstanding, and effects of misinterpreting natural phenomena, a cloud was interposed between you and the true revelation of God as he manifests himself in his all- wise laws and unvarying principles. You must find your soul center, and listen to the teaching that comes through its gateway, and see the light of truth that dispels all clouds and errors. Thus you will listen, and learn, and absorb the intention of life, and come into a fuller appreciation of the great meaning of these beneficent laws that pervade every form in Nature. Here is everything that is needed to make life a heaven on earth, — health, wisdom, happiness, harmony, — every conceivable bounty for the bene- fit of mankind. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 23 There has never been any need to crucify saviours, or to persecute God. Draw nearer to the great magnetic source of God's love, stand in the pool of his living waters, pass down into the mighty streams that are ever flowing for the cleansing of humanity's impurities, and emerge into the boundless expres- sions of his power, strengthened by this contact with living elements, and in tune with the harmony of the God-life as it has revealed itself throughout natural channels. Then will the struggle cease. Your eyes will be opened to all the wonderful gifts which are spread before you. From his bounty you can choose everything that harmonizes with you and with your harmony in Nature. You are walking in understanding of the universal laws, and are no longer at war with them or with self. Mistakes have been swept away by the seas of time. You see God's manifestations with clearer vision, and your love goes out to all his creatures, and are one in unity of purpose and love with your brother man and sister woman, and henceforth dwell lovingly in Nature. You can no longer be torn by injustice or be cast down by ignorance and superstition. This is no longer your her- itage, but you are now born into power which will be equal to all your experiences as life goes on. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 25 III. Physical suffering is always unwelcome, while mental interruptions are very serious conditions, and should be dealt with in the spirit of the greatest kindness and consideration. To help our fellow man is a necessity of life, and to do that successfully we must make that which is truly scientific our method of treatment. This is not the method of Insane Asylums, and it is from these institutions that we would save the mentally unbalanced. We must first find the error that caused the weakness or condition of mind, and help correct that which the sufferer is unconscious of, and find the center of adjustment, so that mental poise may result, and physical health be regained. The physical and the spiritual connection must be completed, and the balance of power must be rightfully assumed. In many cases there is more need of spiritual assistance than there is of physical treat- 26 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE ment, and souls in darkness can be liberated from their bondage by the understanding that comes through the acquaintance of the divine principles that Nature presents to mankind. The welfare of all people is the object of this philosophy. God-life and love, an entire blending of all forms, from the lowest expression of life to the highest conception of spiritual attainment will be your realization after you have passed up from the valleys to the heights as you attend this school of Natural Instruction. You are learning more and more of the beautiful things in life, and seeing more and more of the wisdom that has arranged life as a series in progression; God and love are walking with you — and the former things have passed away. You have chosen the way of wisdom, and her ways are pleasantness and peace. Sad- ness and sorrow no longer sit in your dwelling — you have risen from the shadows and forever will live and progress in the light of truth. Love and light will flow from your life and in the discipline of the past all malice and unkindness have been outgrown. There are always higher planes to ascend, always new experiences, and new truths spread before the earnest student. Love and beauty have fresh revelations for the aspiring soul, and the life that is unhampered by misunderstanding and THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 27 error goes joyfully on drawing the essences of all existence into the upward journey. This is the life of purity, this is the life of love that never dies. From the highest sense of refinement, from the eleva- tion of the spiritual growth, the perfume of truth will be wafted to the lower souls in the earth life, and spirit truth will pierce these hearts as an arrow of love, for a higher awakening. The conviction of higher truth will enter their understanding, from this light of your own soul which shines for their illumination. All men can see you for what you are — and you respond to the cries from the depths, and unselfishly labor for the souls who grope toward the light. Through the teachings of Natural Science you are sending the influx of your own spirit, and your power is felt through- out the world. Through your life a new revelation is given to mankind. The White Plague is the most dreaded disease in America. For its cure all eminent physicians are recom- mending God's pure air and sunshine. Tubercular patients are made to live in the out-of-doors. This is in harmony with all that is taught by Natural Science, yet this science does not stop here, it not only teaches you of the healing qualities in sunshine and pure air, but it furthermore informs you that Deity is expressing himself in all things in nature, 28 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE and the more fully you harmonize yourself with nature the more you are exerting a rightful power of your own spirit for your greater strength, and through this natural blending of reciprocal forces you are drawing healing life from all the elements in nature. The spirit within the physical body is the controlling power, and the body it inhabits will naturally respond to the awakening call of the central life. Thus you can heal yourself as God intended you to do. Remember that Nature sets no boundaries nor limits. There is everything in life that is needed for any condition that arises, and the object of life is to progress and work out a more perfect condition, physical, mental and spiritual. In this way you grow strong in mind, body, and soul, and have no need to fear the invasion of disease, or be a slave to any weakening habit. In this way you teach your own individ- uality to be harmonious and in this way you will reign supreme over the less perfect expressions of life. Then why submit to disease and error? Why think that the malady pronounced incurable by physicians is in reality a condition incapable of yielding to the restorative methods in nature? You believe that you have contracted a fatal disease because it has been so considered by those you regard as authority upon such subjects, and this thought controls your organism. It becomes enthroned in the place of a true understanding of physical and spiritual conditions, and you yield to its weakening effect. Why do you so submit and make its progress possible? I will answer for you ! It is because of your early teach- THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 29 ings, which you have not yet outgrown. These have worked their way into your thinking processes, and your vital forces are enervated by their hopelessness. If the theology of a darkened understanding has also cast its blighting power over you, then the torment of a despairing belief that you are a poor miserable sinner, weak and helpless in the sight of God, is adding its weight to the burden you are already bearing, and your body and spirit are greatly enfeebled. The present age is fast outgrowing these superstitions. God has always spoken to you of his power within yourself, and encouraged you by his loving wisdom to grow in likeness unto himself. It is a serious thing to submit to disease and ignorance. Think deeply upon this. The psychological power of one mind over another is a recognized fact, and many instances are recorded of the ill effects of suggesting weakness. Sup- pose in meeting a friend, at various times through the day, you appear anxious and tell him he is looking ill, and urge him to go home and to go to bed. It will have its effect if he is susceptible to your suggestions, and he will gradually take on the look of illness, and very likely take to his bed if you continue this solicitude about his condition. This is because he accepts the error, and believes in bad health. The same power rightly used can result in his restoration. Natural Science intends to build you into manly men, and womanly women, into a strong, unlimited spiritual being, recognizing your rights and privileges through the power of God within you, and by a just recognition of these laws. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 31 IV. It is natural for mankind to seek the truth, and to make every effort to understand the mysteries of the universe and to become master of the principles which are ever expressing themselves to the mind which is constructed to understand! And just as surely is Nature trying to reveal herself for the use, culture, and upbuilding of mankind. This is true in material science and just as true in the higher development, or the spiritual expressions. The same light is shining through every atom and every sphere. The spiritualized understanding perceives much that is invisible to the outer senses, and associates consciously with the interior life of the universe, and receives truth from the higher spheres. Nature is a united whole. It is only a lack of recognition of this fact, that has made the earth world seem but a detached part of something incomprehensible, and humanity as fragments 32 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE of some undefined plan, subject to the caprice of the elements or limited by the boundaries that reach no further than mortality. Life has undreamed of possibilities. This is but the threshold of immortal eternal development. The spheres of our future home are wonderful in their perfection, and ar£ constantly giving of their love and goodness to inspire the burdened or sorrowful lives in this expression, and help all humanity in its efforts to rise above the material restrictions and understand the purpose of existence and the unity and harmony that is in all nature. The beautiful arrangement of the earthly plane in its con- nection with the spiritual worlds was more clearly revealed to me when I was guided by one of the inhabitants of the higher plane and my own liberated mind or spirit accom- panied him to the seventh sphere of life. Something of that quality of loveliness and purity I place before you, that from my own experience you may better understand these truths and be inspired to more nobility and the higher development of your own spiritual powers while enjoying or enduring the experiences of this first sphere of life. These truths are becoming more and more evident to the whole world, and are leading men and women into a larger conception of every phase of their expression. It has given me the realization of my own calling in life and I desire to aid men and women in their earthly pilgrimage to the attain- ment of the truths that will lead them ever onward and up- ward into the development of body, soul and spirit. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 33 The milestones of life are engraved by indelible thoughts. Upon these as beacon lights will be set the precious gleams of immortal truths. They will shine from the hill-tops for the guidance of aspiring souls, and mankind will pass out from the narrow and tortuous paths and forever leave the dark valleys of ignorance and ascend to the heights of true manhood and womanhood. The life in all Nature is the same, it is the life of Deity. It exists in different states of perfection according to its natural development. This universe of life is real to me. The power of the great Positive Mind of the unseen is the source of all life, and to appreciate all his works is refining to the soul of every individual. It is by these truths that you are attracted to spiritual realities and can more consciously commune with your unseen friends, and be brought into clearer realizations of the heavenly principles that govern not only that sphere, but that are the moving principles of the whole universe. The Great Positive Mind called God and all the pro- gressed souls in the spiritual planes are reflecting these thoughts to you, that your own life may be illuminated by truth and made radiant by the light that is celestial. This principle of loving service is exhibited in all of life. No life is lived independent of anothers. No world exists independent of another. Every individual is but a part of the great brotherhood, and every revolving globe is but a part of the great system of suns, each held in their place by the 34 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE law of attraction or gravitation, each an important part of a great universal whole, whose cause is Divine Wisdom. The laws of sidereal space are so perfect that no planet ever wanders from its own path, and how true should this be of man whose relationship to his own orbit is determined by the same power that governs the planetary movements. Chemical relationships are the result of unvarying laws in matter, the combinations and recombinations of motion and progression — while the attractions of the mind and the de- velopment of the affections should be guided just as unerr- ingly by this spiritual law of relationship and obedience to the same progressive law. These processes will exist throughout eternity. The life spirit is in every kingdom and man is the immortal result. We are born into these laws, and must live by them, whether they suit our peculiar ideas or not. We shall live more completely if we voluntarily journey on in harmonious accord with the moving principles of our existence. There are many phases of religious and creedal life, of cults, and of associations, each presenting what has seemed to their originators as a truthful explanation of life and destiny, but if it had been truth the world would have been instructed into ways of wisdom and peace long before this era — so the results reveal their errors, and if individuals are seeking a better understanding, they will not find it by remain- ing in the former places. It will be necessary to become acquainted with Nature's laws, not creedal nor civic, and to learn through the natural avenues of thought and revelation, THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 35 the truths that will endure throughout eternity. This is in accord with Nature's design, and it is the law of life. Do not stay in the superstitious teachings of unenlightened minds. Awaken from the slumbers of an uninspired brain — else you will become dwarfed and unthinking creatures. Natural Science is to assist the earth world to a higher realization of universal law, and illumine the understanding till mankind sees clearly the spirit of life and life of spirit as it exists in the smallest forms and trace its connection through all its developments until it blooms in immortal beauty in the highest sphere. This universal principle will teach you to be kind, unselfish, charitable, it will open your soul to the arrangement of nature, and you will walk in a fuller com- prehension of the universal goodness, and become not only a philosopher and a scientist, but a being in harmony with the governing powers of life. »J» »^ tji tj* »J» *J» *ji »J* The beauties and love powers of the seventh sphere are unexplainable to the mortal ear — but if you will listen with the soul faculties and open your inner self to the contempla- tion of sublime truths you will receive imperishable treasures into your life, and become aware that the heavenly is dis- tinguished by its spirit of universal service, and perfect love. The unseen guide asked me if there were anything in life I desired that this sphere did not contain — and when I began to think of the innumerable beauties by which divine wisdom 36 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE expressed itself, my soul was filled to overflowing with love of Deity. Here was everything to make life one grand symphony. Every one I met radiated happiness. They all loved each other. There was no discord. All was harmony. It was a blending of lives in God's perfect love. There was no malice nor wickedness. The imperfections of this earthly expression could not enter there. My guardian angel who conducted me here was an ancient spirit, a teacher from one of the high planes of life, and as we entered the seventh sphere two beautiful souls who stood by its portals smiled and greeted us, and said * 'enter in." They were clothed in white garments, and carried symbols of liberty in their hands. As we passed through the beautiful white ethereal mist that separated this sphere from all others, two brilliant lights appeared, one in front of my face, and one in front of my guide's. This light which seemed about three feet away shone through the seventh sphere, and lighted our way. When we were within this sphere I was conscious of a wonderful uplift of power, and as I drew near the celestial souls who lived upon this plane, I breathed in a life force of a most refined nature. It was a drinking in of life, of love, of purity — a perfume of loveliness and goodness — an atmos- phere that was pervaded by every holy influence. The spirits appeared to be clothed in garments of ethereal texture which reflected the beauty and purity of their sur- roundings. Everything was symbolic of its own spiritual ascension THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 37 and progression, so exquisitely adapted to every loving thought that you would long to be with them always. It would make you understand that life is a thing of beauty, and of love, a love that never dies, but that grows higher, stronger, purer, which is a purity of heart, soul, and purpose. It is the divine love of the angels that you and I will grow to be, some day in the far distant ages, as we ascend from sphere to sphere. Let us work together to hasten that day, and to bring the kingdom of that thought, or heaven, to earth. The plants and flowers of that sphere were very beautiful, some of which were like those of earth, but many were of a type I have never seen in this expression. Some of these flowers of the seventh sphere seemed to lift their heads and smile as they unfolded their faces of beauty and gave forth their breath of love and purity. Here the birds sang when invited to, and their songs were strains of wonderful music. No bird did I ever hear sing so beautifully. Their coloring was soft and delicate and harmonious. It was all one grand, united outpouring of life thoughts rising from the Infinite, and flowing up in the hearts and souls of everything that had its dwelling place in this illu- mined sphere. As I looked about, I discovered at a distance the structure of a beautiful temple which was situated in the rays of a glowing light. It was the center of a wonderful power — attracting from the great spiritual sun, God Almighty. My inmost self was drawn toward this illuminated edifice which seemed as a fountain of light, and I requested my 38 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE guide to go with me and visit this temple of life where the great Positive Mind, God, was attracting me. My guardian angel smiled and said, "My child, you can- not go there for if you did you could never return to earth." I answered him by saying that I did not want to return to the earth life. Again he smiled and said to me, "You must return, your work in earth is not done." I looked at him fair in the eyes and said, "How can you ask me to go back to earth after bringing me to the seventh sphere where all is peace and bliss?" He placed his hand upon my head and said, "My child, do you want another to carry your burdens and to suffer your experiences? Would that be just?" and then earthly selfishness fell from me, and I saw the wiser plan of life. He said to me, "Go back to earth, take up the cross that awaits you, and when you are passing through the dark vales of life you will never be alone for I will be near you to lead, guide and protect you, and lead you out from the entangle- ments of life into the broad fields of wisdom and truth. You shall be a leader of men, and when your work is done in the earthly life, we will welcome you here with outstretched arms." ' He then said, "Follow me!" and we passed back through the beautiful mist of life that separated that sphere from the earthly plane — and we returned to earth to fulfill this mission. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 39 It is possible for the students of these immortal truths to progress and grow into such an unfoldment of their own divine attributes, that under god-like conditions they can leave the material conditions and in spirit go from the physi- cal body, and in company with a master or teacher from the spiritual spheres visit the scenes of the future home, and communicate with the loving souls who now dwell there. This is a privilege you can have if you earn it through your own efforts. It is like going from the primary classes and advancing on through the other grades until you enter the University. The truths of spirit will reveal to every earnest student of Nature the laws of life by which you can aspire to the heights of wisdom. There is but one life, there is but one God. The God of the universe is the God of every expression material and spiritual, and in his revelation of the immutable principles that dwell in him, and that through him dwell in you, the way is made clear by which you surely journey to God-like expressions, and some day will arrive to this fulness of power. In the higher classes of life there are many planes of exist- ence, yet only one life essence is expanding your brain cells and stirring your consciousness to larger realizations and when you come to the full knowledge of this truth you will see life with the all seeing eye, and know life with the knowl- edge of Deity. Nothing can be hidden from the sight of Deity. Life time is all eternity. There is no death. Why not gain this larger knowledge of life and familiarize yourself with the 40 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE principles of thought transmitted between the different planes of existence? These are facts that are ever proving them- selves true. There have been and always will be teachers in the earth life and in the sphere of spirit. Jesus was one of these spiritual teachers, and he meant that the world should go on with his work, and that men and women should grow in his likeness unto God. This is what Natural Science is teaching you, but through misunderstanding and a wrong interpretation of Jesus' words you have been casting your burdens upon him, and thus make him an atonement for the mistakes that each individual must bear as his own. Earthly souls have always stoned their prophets. They have never appreciated the spiritual teachers. The whole system of progression is composed of an endless chain of teachers from every sphere of life, and through them are the higher thoughts transmitted from one plane to the other. If this were not so, if communication were impossible how could the poor souls that are living in the lower expressions be in- spired and lifted up into the better way ? When they behold their wasted life they cry out from their lower depths for help, and their cries are heard by the master teachers of spirit life, and they respond to the appeals of the suffering, and by their knowledge of the laws of life, help these unfortunate souls to find their place in the progressive development, and lead the erring ones into the spirit of truth. It is a universal truth, that we have possible access to THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 41 every plane of life. This must be recognized by every science, thought, and cult, otherwise they have no foundation for their teaching. Truth is always logical, and truth must embrace the whole, not stay at partial revelations. If we are search- ing for truth we are opening our minds to the reception of universal principles, and cannot throw aside a single phase of truth to satisfy any preconceived idea, prejudice, or peculiar belief. We must learn of life, and become in harmony with its undeviating laws. From every point of view life is perfect, and we are intended by it to have health, happiness and prosperity, and to be blessed by the visible and invisible worlds, and to be guided into love and purity and from our inmost spirit exhale the perfume of these life principles. Instead of this, humanity has circumscribed fixed beliefs, and oppressed life, causing untold suffering, sorrow and despair. The human family throughout the ages have violated nearly every natural law of the universe. This has brought dissension into the life of individuals, and made progress a thing of slow growth. How long will people be content to stumble along in the dark, and not take advantage of their rightful path? How long will they be held in bondage to external authority and not heed the voice that speaks in their own living temple? These shackles should be broken and the house cleansed of its accumulation of debris. Every condition that restricts the freedom of reason should be set aside, and a quick escape 42 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE should be made from the false environments that men have built to hedge in the free born soul. The sunshine of progression is lighting the world, and in this you should walk, and no longer wander in the shadows of the past. You will then realize that you are a living spirit, not insensate clay to be molded by opinion, but that you are endowed by an authority that is life — and that life can never die. You will become more conscious of the universal prin- ciples, and that you have a right in life that no man can circumscribe. You will enter into Nature's laws and live intelligently by their revelations and justice. Ignorance will be a despised condition that you will strive to outgrow, for you cannot open your door to progression if you continue to dwell in the old mistakes and errors. This is an essential truth to impress on every mind, and when you have thoroughly learned this through the teachings of Natural Science, you will grow into harmonious relations with the higher expressions. There will be no more sickness, no more distress, no more wickedness, no more selfishness. You will grow in likeness to the perfect love and peace that is perfected in the seventh sphere. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 43 V. From Nature's great observatory you will view all of her domain, and realize the wonderful resources contained in her boundless fields of life. She furnishes every divine element that is necessary to sustain every expression of life, and from these elements man- kind derives all that is nutritious and curative for body or mind. The four important elements are sunlight, pure air, pure water — and a clean mind. The life properties of these elements are a part of the life force which flows from the source of All Power. Chemical, physiological, or optical analysis does not make manifest the life principle that shines in light or that flows in water, or that vivifies atmosphere. It is adapted in every way to the constitution of man. 44 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE To receive these living elements ever healing essences it is most important that the mind be clean, clear and free. Cleanliness results in Godliness, and a clean mind will make for itself a clean body governed by clean principles. A clean mind is like the clean window of a dwelling house — from this you have an unobstructed view into the fields of nature, and your vision follows the sunlight as it penetrates with magnetic warmth and life everything upon the face of the earth. Through this clear window of your mind you reach into the sunlight and attract the life elements. You can spiritually store away within your own being the influx of this life force that streams in the sunlight, and in this way comply with Nature's loving provisions and radiate light and life to the inner self. Windows are put in your house that you may have light and air, through these the sunshine comes in, otherwise there would be darkness in your house. The sun may be beaming down upon your physical body, but if your minds are not well cleared of superstition, and well cleaned of ignorance you have not suitable windows for the sun to shine into and radiate your temple with its purify- ing rays, and spiritually illumine the place you dwell in. In this case you remain in the dark, just as surely as if the windows had not been put in the house you had built. It is as necessary to provide for the wants of the spiritual man within, as it is to provide for the external body. The spiritual revelations throughout nature tell you that there is a constant interblending of matter and spirit, and it is through THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 45 this that harmonious relations exist between the spiritual and the physical expressions. This is a natural law, the truth of which should be more fully recognized. When you become conscious that you are absorbing the life elements from the sun, for your own light, health, and strength you are receiving from without and within, and are recognizing the physical and the spiritual laws, and comply- ing with them for your own harmonization. You are unfolding yourself to limitless possibilities by becoming one with nature. It is through sunlight that you see the inexpressible beauties that are on every hand. It is a world of exquisite color, and beautiful forms. This is received into your soul by the medium of light, and inspires you with a greater appreciation of God's goodness. The invigorating effect of air is also most important. Your lungs are constantly calling for the oxygen contained in the atmosphere. These particles of life which are con- tained in air have strength and healing power. It is the breath of Deity, and these heavenly elements should be absorbed into the system by deep breathing. We should make every effort to give all of humanity the clean surroundings that are necessary for purity of this divine atmospheric ocean by which we are encompassed that living principle of oxygen may purify the air chambers of the phy- sical body, and distribute vital power to every organ of the physical body. This will result in a sense of spiritual uplift for the whole being is grateful for this purity of atmosphere into which the 46 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE life of Deity breathes his spiritual essence. It is important to recognize these life qualities in all that surrounds you, for without recognition much that is otherwise beneficial cannot be retained. Recognition is a wonderful factor by which we become more fully awakened to the celestial forces which are work- ing ceaselessly for our upbuilding. Let us breathe in the breath of Deity with thankful appreciation of the marvels that are contained in its life principles. Let us drink in the pure water that is the cleansing factor of physical accumulations. Water also contains this living power and is a refined form of chemical substances most essential to health and vitality. From deep within the earth it journeys underground, bubbles up through springs, unites with the air, falls again to earth, rushes over gorges, flows down the mountain sides, surges in the lakes, becomes tor- rential floods, or sings its peaceful way as it ripples in the little brooks. What a power it is, and how great are its uses. It is a high form of elemental life, and acts upon the body by renewing health and strength- — and by repelling disease. When you drink this pure draught do you recognize it as a blessing from Deity, an expression of God's love and mercy? These truths will make you new born into the spiritual un- derstanding, and baptize you into the waters of living truth. You will behold God in every form and manifestation of life, and see the earth as a bounteous garden in which his love dwells manifested in everything that shall benefit man- THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 47 kind, and that these blessings are here in this earth's expres- sion, and that this knowledge of the upward tendency and growth of every formation through the avenues of progression by the laws of evolution are all of God and a part of Him- self. Are you carrying this same principle of living into the selection of food, are you recognizing the good and appro- priate elements in varieties of vegetable kingdom as it flowers and fruits in countless varieties and forms, or are you com- mitting savagery, and taking life to support your physical body? It is a violation of Nature's law to take harmless life, and it is not refining to live upon the flesh of animals. It is only past ignorance that allows this, and custom is a difficult thing to outgrow. Every manifestation of life has a spiritual meaning, and the higher the animal form the more useful a part it plays in the assistance of mankind in his own life. You are interrupting the plans of Deity when you take the life and feed upon the flesh of the beasts of the field, and the fowls of the air, and the fishes of the deep. They have a significance of their own and are an important part of their age and environment, and are adapted to, a service in the purposes of Nature that is not yet fully recognized in its wonderful arrangement. To eat of their flesh is only a step in advance of the cannibalism that feeds upon human bodies. It is against Nature's laws to slay the innocent creatures that combine to make man's habitation a rest and beauty unto his needs, and 48 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE to use this flesh as food is not according to the requirements of nutrition. It builds disease and impairs the living tissue of every fibre of your body. Such gross food, so full of decomposition, causes indigestion and produces many of the so-called diseases of the stomach, kidneys, liver and intes- tines. It lessens peristaltic motion and burdens the blood with impurities. It destroys the finer texture of the mortal body and establishes a coarser nature and thus retards your advance toward higher understanding and unfoldments. If you wish to become refined and spiritual, you must adopt a refined diet. The prevailing fashions are surely not the result of either culture, or a pure love of the beautiful, or an appreciation of Nature's uses and intentions. So to be considered refined according to custom and formality is one thing, but to be cultured in the refined perceptions of Nature's laws and purposes is quite another thing. Deity through Nature intended you to live upon the prod- ucts that grow in the earth and upon the earth, and not to slay your helpmates. God gave you the soil to cultivate, and the knowledge by which this is accomplished. He has sowed the seed of wonderful kinds of food, and spread the earth most bounti- fully with beautiful and appropriate substances. The realization of this will make the world more civilized, and humanity will awaken to the life that is designed for mortals in the earthly pilgrimage. Do not retard this advance by pessimistic doubts, but come quickly into the avenues of Natural law, and be led THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 49 into the fields and orchards, there to select from these store- houses the good foods that mother earth has so opulently borne for your nourishment. Here are vegetables, fruits, nuts, cereals of all descrip- tions, and if you will make a study of their substances, and prepare them fresh for your table, you will be surprised to know how many beautiful dishes can be made for your en- joyment and assimilation — but instead of this you have killed your friends and eaten them! The food we eat contains the elements of life. It unites with the system and becomes the structure of every organ; it becomes a part of the brain, there to influence the thoughts and deeds of mankind. The necessity of refined food is clearly proved, for by refined food you build a refined body by which your men- tality is improved and through which you become more and more spiritualized in your perceptions and nature, showing more and more justice to every creature, and becoming more and more harmonious in all your relationships. Thus you will grow strong in body and unfold a character, which is in accord with God's higher principles and will live in the perfect life, blessed with Deity's luxuries, enjoying the fulness of health, awakened to the wonders of the universe, and sheltered secure by wisdom, no longer violating the essential laws of your existence. 50 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE Rest and quietude mean a perfect relaxation of the mental faculties, by which it is made possible for Nature to build and reconstruct the body which has been struggling in ignorance of its needs, and oft-times crucified by a succession of errors. A receptive condition is necessary in which there shall be a complete surrender to the law of physical inaction, that the spiritual self shall gather strength from all the life elements that flow from every source. Nature will thus increase your energy and in this harmonious manner you will attract from Nature's storehouse, and the spiritual, mental, and physical will receive all that is needed to restore health. In this silence of peace you are as a child rocked in the cradle of Deity, soothed, sustained, strengthened by his enfolding love and care. This is life. This is love. This expression of God will awaken even the unbelievers in this science to a higher realiza- tion of the truth of the universal principles, and inspire them to a higher calling in life. Many a person who has been down in the valley of illness near the change called death, when lifted out of this condi- tion and restored to health, has become entirely changed in thoughts and habits, and has seen life in its higher meaning, and through the clearer perception has entered upon the com- ing years with an entirely different point of view. Sometimes when the body has been so near dissolution, the spirit has made a partial escape into the realness of infinity, and visions of beauty and truth have opened the understand- THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 5 1 ing to the higher conditions of living. All this is refining and purifying and results in a very different method of living, when restored to health. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 53 VI. The texture of Nature should be closely observed, since it varies in every product and every composition and is per- fectly adapted for the use in the great interchanging system of the universe. In the vegetable kingdom we find that the vegetables especially adapted for the feeding of animals, is of a coarser nature than that which is most nutritious for man. The texture of animals differ according to their scale of development, and we find this same difference in trees, and shrubs, and flowers. It is the same in the vibrations of sound, of odors, of colors, of atmosphere, everything work- ing according to a perfect law of progression. Nothing can be added to nature. The musician combines the sounds according to a mathematical scale, the mechanic studies the forms Nature has already used, the inventor interprets 54 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE Nature's wonderful expressions, while the artist but repro- duces the beauty that is spread for all beholders. He makes a likeness of some scene, in which Nature speaks to him according to his receptivity or inspiration, but compare the painting with the picture made by Deific principles as they show forth in form, line, color, and spontaneous arrangement. It is as a human achievement that only mirrors the divine, and however beautiful is the artist's effort, the texture cannot be compared with the texture that unfolds its degrees of perfec- tion in the object which has been reproduced. Nature will bear the closest scrutiny. The more care- fully you look at the blossom the more delicate is its loveli- ness, and the more wonderfully the flower expresses itself to you. So it is with the veining of the leaf, the fibre of the tree, the bloom of fruit, the slender grace of the waving grass, the color imprisoned in mineral formations, the con- centrated firmness and symmetry of the physical body with its infinities of textures and colors, all these reveal to you the master mind that is the causation, and that lives in all life. We do not have to put distance between us and Nature's attainments, as is necessary in viewing the artist's picture, but we will examine every form, trace its development, study its use, and at the end find it only more beautiful than it first seemed to our casual gaze, and our uninspired understanding. If our genius teaches us to try to reproduce Nature, we shall know it will be but an artificial result and that we can add nothing to her infinite beauty. We shall have but awakened more to the incomparable loveliness, and the in- THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 55 creasing wonders of our surroundings and of what our own constitution contains, and grow into a fuller expression of all our opportunities in this life. We find this same difference of texture in people. Some are refined, some are coarse. There are all kinds and all varieties of temperament and characteristics. Those of fine texture are usually sensitive to the finer expressions of life, yet positive to the harsher and coarser nature, and they have wonderful possibilities of advancement even as in nature the fine and the beautiful are the likeness of a high development and inspiration. The smaller, refined things of nature are sensitive. The great mind God is positive and gives of his divine wisdom and spirit to everything in every expression of life according to its capacity or receptivity. Man is a part of nature, therefore, he is endowed with the inmost qualities of the Universal Cause of Life. People whose organization unfolds sensitiveness and posi- tiveness to a high degree are kind, conscientious, consistent, and just. Their sensitive nature gives them a very keen perception of what is natural to their own powers and attrac- tions, and their positiveness affirms the superiority of Nature as a divine revelation, and of their own soul as the inspirer of harmonious action, and of their own reasoning principle as the guide to truth and justice. This results in refinement in nature, and the higher culture of the whole character, and of a fuller harmonization with Deity, and an enlightened consideration of mankind. 56 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE Those of coarser texture are more in harmony with the coarser materiality of life, and are attracted to objects, and thoughts, and pleasures and pursuits of a lower order in the scale of natural development. They do not respond to the spiritual essences for their organism is more related to external nature than to the interior, or spiritual life. Their vibration is low, the brain is slow to operate and does not respond to the spiritual forces as readily as to the inferior and outer influences. They are more imprisoned by an earthly body that blends with denser substances, and which is unaware of the great deific life about them. They believe in death. They see only the mortal expressions of birth and decay. This world represents the object of existence, and they have no knowledge of the spiritual man within that is born anew into the more refined spheres through the transition called death. In this spiritual darkness they enter the eternal home, and carry with them the effects of their ignorance and mate- rialism. As they become awakened to the higher life, and see the glories of the heavenly atmosphere, they look back with sorrow upon their wasted years in the earthly expression, and cry for light. The higher teachers respond to their pleadings and bring to the strangers in the spiritual spheres the light for which they ask, and the truth that shall unfold their souls into the true proportions that are the heritage of every child of the Universal Father. These higher teachers are the men and women who once lived upon some sphere in the planetary system, and who in THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 57 the spiritual planes have advanced during their long residence in the home of purity and wisdom, until they have become powerful in the likeness of God, ministering unto the unhappy individual who dwells in darkness, and they work unceasingly for the uplift of all humanity. This truth you call Natural Science has been impressed upon the understanding by the higher teachers that the human soul may more readily expand in the earthly progression, and more surely progress in the ways of harmony during his life upon the rudimental plane which is preparatory for the higher expression. In this way the life of God is made a reality, and mankind will become more individualized by spiritual characteristics. By this science you are taught to live — not to die — for life is eternal. This revelation of the natural and spiritual unity of all life shows the unmistakable develop- ment of every order of creation. It is the symphony of Nature — the music of Deity as he expresses his love for the human soul. Into this life it is possible to harmonize your own thoughts and affections until your own harmony inter- blends with the universal symphony of Nature and you are in tune with the infinite melody that sings its sweetness and its glory in every sphere. As a child this music entered your soul, and led your feet to quicker motions, or hushed your tired bodies by its tender lullaby. It sounded the onward march of time to your im- patient eagerness and poured its rapture into your unfolding affections. This mystery of music was in the rippling streams, you 58 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE heard it in the song of birds, you found it in the raindrop, and you saw it in the dancing sunbeams. Every flower spoke its sweetness, and looked into your face as gentle as is the gaze of love. Springtime was the wonderful first movement of this celes- tial symphony played by the budding life that expressed itself throughout every kingdom, and echoed in the heart of re- sponsive childhood. The symphony of Deity is expressing God's love in every form of life, and when you are enjoying Nature's every blessing you are in the universal harmony. It is the over- joy of love and heaven that thrills your very being. The deific symphony flows through your organism and lifts you into a clearer understanding of truth in nature, and truth in yourself. You listen to the waters of life as they rush down in mighty streams, you hear the roar of the ocean as its tide flows and ebbs, you note the voice of the^ air as it breathes through the waving palms, the song of birds comes to you, the melody of the human voice reaches your soul, and as a harp vibrates to touch you respond to the thrill of ecstasy, and are lifted to the highest consciousness of peace and love where the blending of souls in purity are the silent strains of this deific symphony. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 59 VII. Man is a fountain of life's expression to flow forth every truth there is in the universe. He is a fountain of thought from which shall issue clear understanding by which life shall be cleansed and refreshed. When he is aware of this truth then will he seek the eternal springs that rise in the conscious- ness and that mirror the infinite sources of life. Into these life streams tome many vibratory currents, and through these invisible fluids are the finer essences — by which you form your life and the life of others. You can add to this silent force the mighty energy of your own right direc- tion, or you can decrease your supply and cloud its clearness. You can live in its progressive flowing or you can drift aim- lessly upon its bosom, and be at the mercy of storms and darkness, and the tumult of the waves. If you have ignorantly chosen the path of storm and 60 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE clouds, or have found yourself in distress, arise in your own self-consciousness and make your way into a clearer atmos- phere lest you not only wander here in darkness, but become a wanderer in the next expression of life, until there God's light and truth shall awaken you to the universal principles that you so disregarded in the earthly retrogression. This is the sphere in which to begin the molding process, this is the time to cease from all thoughts and ways that result in destructive processes. Build nobly now the foundation of the structure that shall last throughout eternity. This Philosophy of Natural Science has been written under the guiding influence of the angels, as a signal, a warn- ing, and a helpmeet to all souls whomsoever they are and wheresoever they may be, that they may awaken to the higher truths in earth life, that they may become self poised and take their own individual place in the universe, under- standing the vibratory force that is in every expression, and regard themselves as fountains which send forth countless streams of energy and of healing that shall reach every ill in the social disturbance, and give health and wisdom to those who are in bodily sickness and mental unrest. By the law of recompense or compensation this good returns to the individual and builds that life into physical and mental power, and unfolds limitless possibilities as to the mastery of self. It is one with the deific power, the all seeing eye that discerns wisdom and cannot be led into ignorance, nor be dominated by the mischievous minds of others. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 61 The psychology of mind over mind is a manifest fact, not only in individual cases but in crowds and in masses. The power of oratory, the magic of music, the fury of the mob, all demonstrate the sympathetic response that is given by mind to whatever is the appeal that stimulates it to answering action. This concordant atmosphere of mind to mind operates upon the natural law of like attractions, or the positive ele- ment as master of the negative temperament, and can be used to inspire faith, heroism, and justice, or it can me misused to selfish and disasterous ends. This knowledge of psychological influence should be applied to the strengthening and maintaining of the individual sovereignty as supreme to unwise influence from without, and as his own power over self. The voluntary powers of the mind should be educated to strength and to a fortifying self confidence. The basis of this will power should be an intelligent understanding of Nature, an application of reason to all subjects, and an earnest desire to unfold all the better qualities of self that mankind may expand into unselfish, truthful, well balanced, harmonious individuals. There is no doubt but that many a man has made mistakes in business investments and in his business methods by the wrongful influence of a less honest mind, and that many a person has formed habits injurious to health through the harmful suggestions of fellow companions. The social world suffers from the wilful efforts of self seekers, while criminal 62 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE propensities are encouraged by this contagion of surrounding influence. We see this in various ways as the path of life is traverst, and man is in danger from these insidious foes, unless he is well guarded in his soul self. Telepathy has proved that the brain is open to receive thoughts from others. This is commonly called thought transference — or transmittance of thought. It manifests itself constantly, and has been for years, and is now, the object of scientific investigation. Thought travels anywhere upon this plane of life, and also upon the higher planes, according to the law of vibratory attraction, so it is essential for happiness and progression that each individual should be master of his soul self, and re- spond only to the thought waves that emanate from the intel- ligent and lofty minds in either sphere of life. You should see life from every point of view for ignorance is not innocence nor protection. And as you unfold the God-life from within, just so surely you unfold the greater wisdom that not only makes your own character, but gives you discerning power to judge of character in another. You will know this at a glance, because the inner self cannot be hidden. This is a silent language that expresses the real self. From out the eyes the soul looks; your affections proclaim themselves in your smile, every heart throb forms your feat- ures into their expression and your very spirit shines through or clouds your face, and speaks more truly than uttered words. The discerning see this, but the immature, the THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 63 ignorant, the weak, the unsuspecting are less protected, and more easily victimized. Each needs to be a master soul that these conditions may be controlled, and that the line of differentiation can be drawn between one's own thoughts and the thoughts of others, and so be held aloft from ignorance and mistakes. Through this ignorance and folly mankind has misused his natural opportunities and violated the laws that are for well being. This has brought suffering, wrong doing, and super- stition in the place of happiness, good, and wisdom, but man- kind is also progressive and is looking more deeply into the philosophy of life than ever before, and will find truth, and not only save himself but save the coming generations from the consequences of former errors. This consciousness of individual responsibility will inspire you to greater spirituality and you will feel yourself as a fountain of thought drawn from God's great reservoir of life, and in your own elevation you will draw all men unto you that they may drink of the waters of life and become re- freshed and strengthened. This fountain of thought that has its rise in Deific sources flows throughout the universe. It stimulates mankind to progression, and sustains him in his forward march. Natural Science teaches you to see this clearly, and leads you to the waters of life. Progression is endless. The development of the human soul is for eternity. The call to life is the clear bugle note of infinity that sounds to summons man to command himself. Natural Science is the teacher 64 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE in this great training school. It unveils the undiscovered secrets and gives man the possession of the laws of growth, and the realization that only through proper living can he enjoy the fulness of pleasure. When the ethereal wave of Deity is with you, and your consciousness is open to Deity's breath of love it will make every manifestation in nature a thing of beauty, a life expres- sion that is sweet as purity. You will thank God that you are living, and will rejoice that you are to live always. You will thank God for the halo of light that surrounds you, that its rays dispelled your darkness, and led you to victory. Your illumination shall shine for all men, and bring them to more perfect conditions. You will deal gently with your fellow men, and charitably excuse their ignorance. You will give thoughts of love in place of anger, and smile in return for the frown. You will reflect the inner life that characterized the Nazarene, and be known even as Jesus was, a friend of the unfortunate, a teacher of universal principles, an example of God-life, and a demonstration of God's power to everthrow sin and in- justice. In this way will men walk out from the shadows of life into the universal truth of God's love. In this larger life this fountain of truth and love will flow from every soul, and pure conditions will be realized in what is now a land of promise. Life will mirror only the brightest and the best that man- kind may see the truth that is expressed in God's universal love, and "peace on earth good will toward men" will be THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 65 the watchword as humanity rises to the higher life. All will be harmony and truth. It will be the era of the mother- hood of man and the sisterhood of woman. The Infinite Goodness is revealed in every expression. The ethereal breath of Deity will refine all substances, and unite mankind; it will lift the veil of darkness from the valleys of the earth, and the glory of celestial light will shine throughout the universe. Turmoil then will have ceased. Then all is peace, all is love. All are united in God's kingdom, in onement with God's higher expression in the higher life. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 67 VIII. Natural Science, or the true comprehension of Nature, assures us beyond a doubt, that spirit is life and can never die. The earthly body endures but a few years at the most, and is always restricted by its own mortality. But its own divine guest within, is the real personage, the conscious pos- sessor of all the immortal treasures that illimitable time is to unfold. This consciousness ever looks to the source of its own existence, and is attracted more and more to the center of divine wisdom and power, and is inspired more and more to attain knowledge of its own endowments and harmonize the physical and spiritual qualities of its own constitution with the surrounding elements and structures of that which is the earthly heritage and the spiritual destiny. Truth can never be fully realized until the investigator looks beneath the crust of physical matter, beyond the out- 68 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE ward appearance into the very spirit of life. This is the only way by which the unseen cause is revealed. The result of this inquiring will teach the individual how to blend the spirit self that lives in the physical body and harmonize the two entities, and manifest this knowledge toward everything in the visible and invisible world. Science teaches us that this is a universe of perfect and unerring laws. Nature furthermore shows to us that man's possibilities are limitless, that his life is of infinite significance. He is qualified mentally to comprehend the elemental, and the powers that are constantly revealing themselves in phe- nomena, and make use of all the chemical and mechanical forces of the universe for the further improvement, correc- tion, and cultivation of the face of nature, and establish wise conditions for health and happiness. Mind has always proved itself a conqueror. Wonderful examples of individ- ual heroism, of devotion to duty, of forgetfulness of self, of mastery over tumultuous situations have always been exhibited in every age and generation. The most isolated life, the many unknown to fame have doubtless risen to heights of wonderful achievement in the humblest of circumstances, inspired to power by the indwelling, invisible spirit within. This reality of power, this divine image of the Father cannot be confined nor restricted. It has ever been seeking to solve the problems of every phase of existence, and enter into the spiritual kingdoms of light and life. It is the ignorance of the past that has degraded men. It is injustice that has enslaved them, it is the despotism of an THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 69 unenlightened religion that has blinded people to the truth, and offered only a supernatural explanation of nature that had no real knowledge of Deity or his children. These old doctrines gave man no knowledge of his per- sonality, or of his own intrinsic power. It taught humanity to rely upon some power outside themselves. If sin sick, to apply to a priest for absolution; if physically sick to take counsel of a physician who would prescribe some panacea to remove merely the effects of bodily transgression. When mankind will arise to truth and find the real proper- ties within himself and in nature around him, and live accord- ing to the wise instructions that are written upon the constitu- tion of every living thing, then will the physical and moral conditions be entirely transformed. These principles that nature is constantly proclaiming, when applied to individual life will give the mastery of self over bodily weakness, and will correct the errors that result from vicious and unprincipled behavior. Ignorance will be overcome. Unwise association will cease. The individual will save himself through his own knowl- edge and power through his own superior desire, and not in the different cures and sanitariums. No intemperate habit need master any person. Spirit is the reality within the body. This body has been organ- ized through the processes of countless years of time, and is composed of wonderful chemical combinations and spiritual energies. It is developed into the most perfect of physical 70 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE structures, and is adapted in every way to live and progress upon this progressing planet. It is the physical temple of the immortal spirit — and that spirit when summoned and directed will assume dominion, even though the physical man has long ignored its natural sovereignty. Heredity, environment, associations, education are all of formative influence. The rudimental lessons of this existence are a necessity. The imperfect must unfold toward perfection, and the unfavorable situations must be changed by the wisdom of enlightened minds and intelligent action. Ignorance has possibilities of wisdom — discord finally turns itself to har- mony. So with man. He must outgrow all the unfavor- able conditions and arrive at his own summit of triumphant living. The body and the earthly conditions must have their acknowledged beautiful meaning. The material substances are all being used toward the spiritual design. The spiritual self is ever rapping and rapping at the inner door of consciousness and asking its rightful recognition. These lives must be lived as one, blended into unison by the harmonious adjustment of soul and body. If you have been listening at the gateway of this immortal self and responded only to the mortal, it is time to rise into the fuller understanding of responsibility and recognition, and start out together on the road of destiny that leads to com- plete unfoldment. It may take time, it must take patience — and courage is a THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 71 necessity in many cases, but this work of adjustment must be accomplished if you attain physical health and spiritual power. When you rise into the desire for this higher life you will attract the pure and noble intelligences of both spheres for your help. The infinite Goodness expresses itself on every hand for your upbuilding and for your encouragement. Take your stand in your own soul, as a seeker after your own self possession. Become master of your own self. Elevate your ideals. Regulate your physical life, and emancipate your spirit from slavery to its external surround- ings. Live naturally with just regard for the physical and moral beauty of the universal order of life and you will become in tune with yourself and in oneness with the Father. Your soul self will reject the unhealthful desires, the need- less gratifications, the disturbing external influences, and will suggest thoughts of health, sunshine, peace and happiness. It will be supreme in its control of self, and poised firm in its own position, unmoved by turmoil from without, impregnable against all assaults of "time and chance." Take these thoughts to yourselves. Let them become the indwelling ideals of the brain. You will sense their power and see nature from a different point of view. Order will form out from what seemed to be chaos, and instead of being a victim of unnatural conditions, you will 72 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE perceive the perfection of Natural law and adjust yourself into harmonious relationship to it. You will thus understand your own bodily functions, and your own power to govern and direct these. You will under- stand the God-life that is within you, and reach down into every part of your body and demand the healthful fulfillment of its life forces, a reconstruction of its deranged elements, and a rebuilding of its impaired tissues. You will order your life for its physiological health, and you will command your mind for its psychological development. God has given you this power, since you are a child of his own life. He is within all things that live and all things are possible according to the just working of his laws. Let us stand for truth and be victorious over every false position. If you are conscious of weakness stand firm in the universal principles, and demand and demand again that your own strength shall rise and respond to the power that is permeating every world in space, and which gives life to every individual dweller in the universe. Each victory makes the final conquest easier, and even though weakness sometimes shows itself, re-capture your power, assert your position, maintain your truth, and never yield to any inferior foe. In this way you will become a power, and not only build physical health but add to your wisdom. You have all the material necessary to build a successful life, first in the God-like mental, because you will have become a magnet through the higher experience and have now the control of your own organism. This is a great achievement toward THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 73 the advance of civilization. The beautiful lands of America are just receiving the gleams of the progressive rays. The awakened minds have broken the shackles that enslaved them, and are freeing man from his own ignorance. Man's own condemnation of self and of others has proved a heavy error. It has weighed him down and encompassed his life with depressing conditions. It has been a waste of thought, a waste of time, a waste of matter, and a waste of life. These prophetic leaders have strewn your pathway with the seeds of truth, which shall take root in the very founda- tions of life, and grow up into blossoms that shall bear fruit in more truth and love until one by one the people shall be touched by this spirit, and the nations shall rise to heights of an inspired civilization. This new era is ushered in by many changes. As man becomes more refined, and is thrilled by God's revelations, he adopts the methods of living that advances him more and more in the way of progress and the realization of harmony. His life becomes more simple, more natural, more kindly, more intelligent. He no longer slays beasts for food nor eats flesh of any kind. He thrusts from his life all things that would tend toward forming or fostering a disposition of warfare and of blood- shed. His nature is at peace with his fellow man, and in harmony with the world beneath him, and above him. He is drawing from the celestial springs of truth, and is living in God's love which will silence the grievous turmoil of the 74 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE world, and will fill his heart with harmonious aspirations and overflowing love. He will rise to the higher atmosphere of expression, and will no longer be enslaved by any habit or vice, nor will he exhibit selfishness in his relationship to others. But those who still live in the deteriorating conditions, who remain as driftwood on the bosom of the waters, choking the current and preventing the onward flow of the pure streams, to those I would pray that they may be awakened and put forth their energy and be borne onward to the haven of their true destiny My prayers have been placed between every line in unseen, indelible words, that your souls may feel the sweet love of Deity that flows through my heart from my soul fountain that all human souls may be lifted from the shadows of life into God's revelations of Natural truth Nature is the life and the truth At this very moment of writing Jesus has appeared and placed a crown on my head and blessed me. I feel the purifying uplift of a throng of souls who are in the presence of this Master. The arm of his holy love has been thrown about me, and the deific wave of truth has lifted me to the radiant heights of God's love. Through this work will his blessing shine forth before the world, and through my organism will be demonstrated this truth of the higher life. I am drifting on transparent clouds of the upper air in the realm of peace where the voices and the music of angels come to me. This is heaven on earth. I have been baptized in the fountain of God's living waters THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 75 that I may make known to mankind the fuller truth of life everlasting. I cannot fail in my endeavor. I will stand fearless before the world for this truth is given me by Jesus, the Christ Spirit, the light that lighteth our darkness. The angels have received my promise, and bear witness to my work for humanity. This I promise with the blessing of God and the angels, Amen! I see life as I never have before. I feel an uplift from celestial sources. My prayers will be felt when you open this book and when you have read the volume my benediction of divine love shall be felt in your soul. The world shall see and know the truth. This is the dawning of the morning of a great advance. Fifty years hence through the deific avenues of progression man will be unfolded and illuminated by the principles of Nature and his character will exhibit much more refinement, delicacy and power — for the soul itself will expand and rest 76 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE not until individual and social conditions are established upon the basis of fraternal and universal love. Peace and unity will elevate mankind above warfare, and will teach the world to be just. There will be no more institutions of punishment for the criminal, nor for the imprisonment of the mental and moral unfortunates. Preventive and curative methods will be studied, and nature will be recognized as the unerring teacher. The angels of love and truth are spreading God's wisdom throughout the world, and error and unrighteousness will be displaced by wisdom. The imperfect happenings will be arranged toward the better expressions, and mankind will no longer be under condemnation and false accusation, for ignorance will have passed away. In this coming era of justice, selfishness can have no place, and former weaknesses will have grown into strength. The destructive tendencies will have been swept away by the seas of time, and the ethereal wave of peace will have passed over the face of the waters and cleansed the surface of the earth, and purified mankind. In this kingdom of social justice and individual unselfish- ness the harmonious character will bloom in divine beauty having risen from the lower conditions, even as the lily that has its beginning in the darkness springs up from the depths of mother earth and steadily directs its course through the crystal waters till it reaches the upper air, there purified to unfold its beauty in the warmth of God's sunlight. This flower is a symbol of progressive development, it is the ascen- THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 11 sion of life from the lower to higher expressions. The cleansing, refining, upward process is very evident. Its petals of white are the characterization of purity; its yellow center represents the celestial glory that colors the highest soul centers of the seventh sphere; its perfume is the aroma of the atmosphere of love, while its lifted face manifests a tranquility that seems to be unfolded from its interior con- sciousness. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 79 IX. Nature everywhere teaches that the rudimental conditions into advanced organizations which merge into new systems and these will gradually establish an era when the nations shall all rejoice in the accomplishment of a superior civiliza- tion. Another half century will greatly hasten this wonderful era, which has been foreseen and foretold by the prophets of every age. Nature will always inspire her children with her own progressive truth. Another fifty years will greatly modify the prevailing evils which result from unequal condi- tions, so that physical strength, individual liberty, and moral development will be the foundation of the future generation. Mankind will be more receptive to the truth of the higher spheres, more sensitive to the magnetic force that is permeat- ing all forms, more intuitive regarding the mighty possibilities 80 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE of life, and more easily inspired to comprehend the universal system, and bring its blessings into the affairs of humanity. Society must arrange itself for the good of every individ- ual, and as material conditions are so influential either for the benefit or the injury of the race, it is evident that physical circumstances must be greatly changed. Science, industry, mechanics, art, and commerce are all contributing toward the intelligent achievement of success. Inventions and discoveries will literally change the face of the globe, and make the earth and air yield more freely its natural abundance and blessing. Man is making wonderful discoveries in the phenomena of nature and is learning how to control the very elements that have brought such destruction and is applying Nature's laws to subdue and make useful that which through its excess was a menace; violence from beneath the crust of the earth will lessen as the planet pro- gresses in the refinement of matter, and the corruptions of unclean conditions will be removed. In this law of the higher unfoldment the true life of man and woman will bloom in immortal beauty. They will typify the principles of love and of justice. They will no longer oppress the unfortunate classes and compel them to toil that the few may live in luxury, but will labor to lift all who are beneath in unequal environments up into the position that Nature gives as equal heritage. The accumulation of gold, and the mastery of men will not be an inspiring ambition. The human heart will respond to higher impulses and throb with a love in tune with uni- THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 81 versal happiness. The wealth of the world will be recog- nized as the natural benefit of those who earn it, and who use it to forward the onward movement of the desired for civili- zation. This will remove the depressing influence that holds men down in ignorance, misery, poverty, disease, and vice, and will correct class distinction, and reconstruct society into the brotherhood designed by God in his loving wisdom. The Science of Nature teaches the truth of Deity's prin- ciples, and does not regard man's opinion or man's interpreta- tion of the methods of the Infinite. The still small voice of Deity is ever speaking to the inner consciousness and it awakens mankind to the truth through the teachers, through inspired lives, through its own natural beauty, and the harmony of existence is unfolded. The time may have been long, and the way devious, but the journey is accomplished, and you stand at last by the living waters, and enter the refreshing pools of immortal love. You have all of eternity before you, but since these laws are undeviating it is better to begin at once to realize their significance and adapt life to their meaning and thus, for yourself, and for those you are associated with, make the present time as harmonious and advanced as the life of fifty years hence. Natural Science is the angel of God's love that will teach the truth sooner or later. It teaches that you can unfold all the riches of the spirit and grow just as strong, just as power- ful as you wish. You can become a God-like man, and be a leader of men, guiding them to this treasure-house of their 82 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE own possession. This is the use of life, to develop it accord- ing to the limitless principle of progress. Be just to your- self, and justice will smile through every movement in Nature. Demand justice and thus attract to yourself the fulfillment of this law ; reflect this justice in all your acts and hasten this realization of liberty, truth and love. This is the gleam of the coming era, this is the gleam of the higher development, the more perfect condition of life, the higher expression of love. It is a love for growth, a love for principle, a love to sacrifice all things that retard progres- sion, a love to be fearless, a determination to stand by your highest convictions, never swerved by the masses but ever faithful to the light, follow onward till the heights are reached. Carry the cross of criticism, die fighting for a cause which you know to be true, for you die only to live again with your battle won, and your victory gained. It is such souls as these that are making the onward march of progression possible, and who are showing you the higher planes of life, and have already lifted the veil that hangs between you and the presence of your dear ones in the other sphere. In this refining process all people will become spiritualized, and will naturally enter into this communicating and feel the atmosphere of their loved ones as they tell the sweet story of life everlasting. The spirit world is near you at all times, and as you attain more and more to harmony, your own soul life will radiate THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 83 back and forth from this sphere, to the higher planes, and you will cooperate more fully and more freely in the love life that is the sequence of divine principles, and respond more gladly to the divine magnet that is ever drawing you onward to the central Goodness. The great turmoil of life then is quieted, and your struggles are over. You have recognized God's wisdom and justice and you have accepted his wise provisions. You have left the wilderness and the waste places, and are walk- ing in God's garden of life, in harmony with all existence from the smallest form to the highest unfolding of spiritual attainment. You are a living soul, recognizing your earthly body as a temple to live in while in this expression of life, and through it, conforming to the laws of matter as they unite with those of mind and power. You are blending and interblending with all of Nature. You are breathing in the divine essence, you are radiating divine light, and you are attuned to Nature's glorious symphony. Your heart is throbbing responsive to your soul's highest impulses. It is Purity sensing the unwritten language of the Infinite -^-acknowledging the music of all spheres and all people, the harmony that blends with the Great Positive Mind God, and that sings with the voices of the angels. Your soul is thrilled by this music. It is the paean of thanksgiving, the spontaneous utterance of gladness that you have won the victory over inferior conditions. 84 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE Thus are you saved by Nature's perfect love and wisdom, and are noble in character, universal in principle, kind in heart, charitable and just in your efforts to save others. The blessing of God's love is yours through all eternity. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 85 X. To all those who are weak in body or distressed by suffer- ing of any kind, I offer this form of treatment to be used every day by the individual as a personal statement, and as a means of opening his or her life to the truths of Nature, and thereby gain strength not only through their own divine re- sources, but receive that healing love ahd power that is ever flowing from the Infinite Source of Life. Enter your own room, close yourself to all outside in- fluences, sit quietly for ten minutes, read forcefully this affirmation. 86 THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE I am seated in a room alone, yet not alone. I am in the Divine Source of my own life and in the presence of God and the angels. I recognize their presence in the sacredness of this moment. I feel the divine inflow of God's love. I thank God for this love and for his presence. The gateway of my soul has opened. I am thrilled with limitless power from the Great Positive Mind, God. I realize my oneness with the rays of his eternal power. It lifts me from all weakness and ignorance, and I am a part of Thee, O God. I am powerful, I am filled with divine wisdom. I see the limitless extent of my power. I am growing stronger and fearless. I demand my right as a child of God. I have won the victory. Health is mine. I grasp it, I cling with wisdom and power that cannot fail me. I have been healed by the wisdom of God. Between the lines is the rejoicing of the angels in answer to your call. THE PHILOSOPHY OF NATURAL SCIENCE 87 LIFE. I stand in the great forever All things to me are divine, I launch my bark on the ocean Of destiny and time. The stars shine bright and one good night For all I am or may be, In boundless space I will find my place No mourning after me. In the dawn of the great horizon Fair portals wide I see ; The hand of the great forever Is the hand of destiny. I hear the angels calling I know their beckoning hands. In the land of the great forever I see that heavenly band. THE SCHOOL of NATURAL SCIENCE RICHMOND L. BISHOP 419 Huntington Chambers, Boston, Massachusetts This science of healing takes for its source the fountain of power which flows from Deific centers through every form of life, permeating and penetrating every organism. The Natural Healer embodies this vitalizing element, and through a superior knowledge of the celestial principle of life is in a more direct relationship to it, and by the same quality of transmission can treat patients in any part of the world, as material substance forms no obstacle to this etherial current. Through this natural immutable law of health giving principle the patient is lifted to a more perfect physical and spiritual condition. All progress in consciousness and harmonization is deter- mined by individual knowledge and use of natural law. The experiences during twenty years as a student of these principles and ten years as a mental practitioner make it possible to give to the world this science of healing.
