RECORDS OF THE CITY OF BALTIMORE CSITPPLEMENT) 1729-1813 LIST OF LEVELS AND ESTABLISHMENTS EXTRACTS OF MINUTES OF CITY COMMISSIONERS ISSUED KY Wilbur F. Coyle City Lirrarsan BALTIMORE 1909 \.^ PKl-SS OI- Mi.\i;k \: Thai iii:i mi k, i;ai. I i.M< iKi':. EXPLANATORY PREFACE This volume is a supplement to the "First Records of Baltimore Town and Jones Town 1729-17'.)7," and "Records of Citj' of Baltimore (City Commissioners) 1797-1'S13," pre- viously issued. The data here given should have been in- cluded in the foregoing volumes, as it covers the same period and ' 5 of the same general character. The records, however, were not discovered until after the first books were issued; hence this supplement is actually a part of the previous pub- lications ?iud should be read in connection with them. This work contains boundary' establishments of tracts, lots, streets and levels (or grades), which are not recorded in the volumes of 1905-6. The records are those of the City Com- missioners, the originals being in custody of the City Librarian. In order to avoid confusion it maybe well to note that the City Commissioners were not alone entrusted w'ith the duties of making establishments and grades. The records of a Special Commission 1728 to 1797; West- ern and Eastern Precinct Commissioners 1810 to 1817, which were engaged in the same work, will be published later, and should be consulted to exhaust the subject of early "estab- lishments," "grades," etc. The Special Commission referred to above should not be confus d with (temporary) special commissions which laid out certain streets. Legislative Acts show that sundry conniiis- sioners of this character were authorized, but their records are very meager. This printed copy has been made to conform to the origi- nals as nearly as possible. There was no effort to correct, revise or interfere in any detail. W. F. C.
